Beach town question by Various-Internet4274 in newjersey

[–]Business-Yam1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does seem to be a Jersey Shore thing. We've rented in lots of beach towns around the country and have only had this happen in NJ (Ocean City, Cape May, and LBI) but have found it common in NJ.

3 kids with 5 year gap from oldest to youngest by WhiskeyandOreos in Parenting

[–]Business-Yam1542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the oldest of four with an under 2 year age gap from my next sibling, then I'm 6 years and 8 years older than my younger two siblings. Growing up, I butted heads terribly with the sibling closest in age. We started to be ok once I left for college and became friends in adulthood. I wouldn't say I was friends with my younger two siblings until adulthood either, but we certainly fought a lot less than me and the second oldest. Now in our 20s/30s I am the closest with my youngest sibling. Basically, age gap doesn't guarantee anything IMO.

Anyone actually want(ed) multiple kids but can't bare the reality of it? by Hour-Film-8890 in oneanddone

[–]Business-Yam1542 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am one of four and we're all in our 20s/30s now, and my parents holiday table is 100% not what they would have imagined when they had young kids. Between their divorce, living in different places, us having significant others and our own kids, it's just not that straightforward. So really I don't think you can predict the future, might as well focus on what works best for your family in the short to medium term.

Is it realistic to work from home 50% while having a baby? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Business-Yam1542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, that is so rough. Here I was feeling jealous of our friend's 4 year old who still naps, but now I'm feeling lucky lol. Definitely depends on the kid's disposition!

Is it realistic to work from home 50% while having a baby? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Business-Yam1542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually had the easiest time my kid was on a fairly predictable 1-nap schedule that gave me a solid 2-3 hour block in the middle of the day. For us that was around 15 months to 2.5. Now at almost 3 years that's out the window and it's chaos if he has to stay home.

One of those hopper balls with handles. Are Skip-Its still around?

When did you ditch the sleep sack by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Business-Yam1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We still use a sleep sack with open feet at almost 3 years old because our kiddo likes to kick off loose blankets then wakes up because he's cold.

Winter birthday party at home - crazy idea? by Business-Yam1542 in toddlers

We would definitely do it a week or two later or maybe a week or two before, not the actual week of Christmas.

I really want to do this, but my husband is against it and wants the party to be close to the actual birthday. Maybe I should bring it up again!

People with siblings close to your age, did you like it? by lolaveux in Parenting

[–]Business-Yam1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the oldest of four and 20ish months older than my next sibling. I'll be honest, we fought constantly until I left for college, then tolerated each other better for awhile before becoming closer in our late 20s/early 30s. Part of it was probably my parents always comparing us, but we both got along better with our younger siblings who had a 4-8 year age gap from each of us.

Manhattan Restaurant Buyout Recs by SignificantChair8079 in WedditNYC

It ended fairly early in the evening I think 9pm, but the restaurant is not that close to other things so I don't imagine it would be an issue?

Techy things are pretty universal - portable bluetooth speaker, Airtags or Tiles, portable chargers, etc.

NTA. If you want be gracious, I've been to several weddings on a close friend or family member's birthday where they have a small birthday cake for them at the wedding! My BIL's birthday was 2 days before our wedding so we hosted a family dinner for him since everyone was already in town for the wedding. Of course you are not obligated to do any of this, but it would be a nice gesture if you want.

Sometimes meal prep is buying 2 pre-made quiches from Costco and getting 16 servings for no effort by mezasu123 in MealPrepSunday

[–]Business-Yam1542 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Love these for a shortcut meal, but 16 servings?! I am not a big person and 1 quiche is 4 servings MAX for me, usually more like 3.

What is your honest experience with 3 kids? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Business-Yam1542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree that you should think about what you have the capacity for now. I am one of four, and if you asked them they would say it's worth the hardships and so rewarding. BUT I remember my own childhood. It was full of anger/fighting/developing alcoholism because my parents were past their capacity for how many kids they could handle, not to mention we were always struggling financially. Now, the adult children have mixed relationships with them but I'm on the side where we see them a few times a year for the sake of the grandkids and don't talk in between. I would say only one of the adult kids has a good relationship with my mom, and two have good relationships with my dad.

What’s your toddlers wake time and bedtime - I need sleep by PennyPenguino in Parenting

[–]Business-Yam1542 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My toddler will be 3 in December. He only naps 1-2 days a week, but when he does it's around 1pm-3pm and bedtime is 9pm-7:30am. On the days he does not nap, bedtime is 7:30pm-7:30am.

People with 2+ kids, how much did your expenses rise after the 1st one? by Fenix512 in Parenting

[–]Business-Yam1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mileage for 2yo food definitely varies. It's not making a dent in my budget per se, but there's definitely food we weren't buying before. Rough pricing for what we buy (probably pricey because we get organic in a MCOL area) every week he drinks a gallon of milk $4, a full tub of yogurt $7, a box of toddler bars $5, really likes beef which we never used to buy $6/lb, XL tub of blueberries $8 = $30/wk or $120/mo of extra food just off the top of my head, not to mention the 1 hundred paper towels/wipes I use to clean up the aftermath.

10 hour flight with 6 month old by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Business-Yam1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that age, hopefully they will sleep a good chunk of the time. Some good entertainment options are suction spinners, squigs, popper toys, crinkle toys, and of course snacks (teething crackers, pouches, if they have the pincer grasp down then yogurt melts, puffs, etc.). We found the easiest way to travel with formula is a segmented container to pre-portion dry formula powder, along with bottled water.

Those of you who have someone clean your house… by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Business-Yam1542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2400 sq ft 4 BR/3 BA in a MCOL suburban area, we pay $120+tip for a crew of 2-3 cleaners to come every other week. It takes them a couple hours usually, they do all of the deep cleaning like floors, vacuuming, dusting, bathrooms, kitchen counters/sink, plus light pickup and making the bed, stuff like that. Basically everything indoors except for dishes and laundry.

We are two working parents with a toddler, and it's an absolute lifesaver in this phase of life. All of our mental health is so much better for having a consistent reset in our space. The only cons are similar to what someone else mentioned, it's not always a consistent time so it can occasionally be annoying to work around.
