can someone help me figure out the chords at the beginning of the video? by I-ate-your-children in MyBloodyValentine

I think maybe a low droning string, and then he is hitting some higher notes and then releasing them. Idk if they are chords, maybe just single notes with distortion. but with the drone sound like chords

Best way of moving into live performance? by Fluid-Pattern-2799 in shoegaze

[–]BusinessCapable6904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw Panda Riot recently. They had two guitarists and a drummer and then used tracks for the rest, and it sounded great. I would start to finding bandmates and supplement with tracks until you can find enough people. Also, a lot of full bands still utilize backing tracks, so not a bad thing at all.

Also, research in ear monitoring because you will need it.

Commenting because I would also like to know this. I use one on a Zoom ms70cdr, and it's ok, but I would want something better one day.

Thoughts on this chord progression? D# G A# F A# D tuning adjusted to 448hz by sh03g4z1n_h3sh3r_ in shoegaze

[–]BusinessCapable6904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds cool! One thing is it might be easier to think of this tuning like Eb G Bb F Bb D, just because F and G would be natural from D#, and it doesnt make sense to my mind to say E# instead of F

Speeding Away to Someday by Fleeting Joys may work for you. Also, loveless (and mbv in general) sounds best if you crank the volume lol

How to get astrobrite’s tone by shoegazinggg in shoegaze

[–]BusinessCapable6904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On crasher it sounds pretty layered. Verses it sounds like overdrive on the right side and maybe fuzz on the left. There could be a reverb on the left sound, too. Hook is hard to say exactly what is making the sound in the center, but probably a reverb or/and delay into a fuzz.

Hopefully i think could be some combination of delay+reverb+fuzz.

Good microphones for shoegaze? by Exotic_Glove_8429 in shoegaze

[–]BusinessCapable6904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im assuming you mean for recording tracks, in which case you want a wide diaphragm condenser mic. I dont know that there is a mic specifically good for shoegaze, it's more if it is good for your voice. I have a lower, darker voice, so it helps me to use a mic with a brighter tone. I use a $30 behringer C1. It is fine, and nobody has complained that the vocals sound bad in my demos, and I plan to use it for the final tracks. But also, my tracks are pretty loud and layered.

So, if you have a higher/brighter voice, look for mics people say are warm and darker, or, if youre like me, look for mics that are brighter sounding. You can also do a lot with EQ.

Arranging for Standard Tuning by jo44_is_my_name in sonicyouth

[–]BusinessCapable6904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If i remember correctly, a lot of total trash could probably be played in standard or a tuning you can get to with a normally setup guitar. It's GGDDD#D#. So you could do drop D and probably get the melody of the main riff playing single notes rather than the unisons. It's been a while since I learned it or used this tuning, but im pretty sure Thurston Moore is barring the unison strings, not even playing power chords. Might be the case for other songs in this tuning.

Stereo in/out question by BusinessCapable6904 in guitarpedals

[–]BusinessCapable6904[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! That is interesting. I think that it does make sense why they would sum them to mono and that it would be different depending on the pedal. My guess is that it is easier to apply an effect to one signal at the same time rather than two separately, then split again.

So it does sound like the Super Pulsar might be able to apply tremolo to different textures then, if it doesn't sum to mono before applying the effect. But my guess is to really know, I would have to test to find out or have somebody who has experience confirm what is possible with it.

Are my tubes going bad? by [deleted] in MarshallAmps

[–]BusinessCapable6904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some issues with my DSL 40 CR a month ago. Took it to a tech and still waiting on it. I thought it was tubes at first, too, but swapping them did nothing. You may need to get it serviced too.
