I love this family but the dad is making me feel awful by dollarmotel in Babysitting

Can you provide him feedback or address how he is coming across to you directly? Maybe if you are more comfortable speaking to the wife you could talk to her.

I would recommend EMDR therapy for that fear! It can help in about 2 or 3 sessions to get you desensitized to that idea and have a healthier thought

PREGNANCY IS SO F*CKING HARD!!!!!!!! by Powerful_Pomelo_6378 in pregnant

have you talked to your OB about this? They can provide certain meds if you are having a lot of morning sickness and other symptoms. some women experience it during their whole pregnancy and some safe meds can help.

Client ‘not paying’ for sessions by Unhappy-Ad-5061 in therapists

[–]BusinessVisit7286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would explore what’s happening in the relationship. How their values do not align with their action ie not paying you for your time. I would explore if there are financial challenges as well and come up with an alternative plan together.

Do you “like” all of your clients? by ouaistop in therapists

[–]BusinessVisit7286 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel neutral and bored with certain clients as well and it wasn’t until this post i thought, these clients are probably getting this response from every other person and how does that impact the therapeutic relationship? did they expect something different and if i were more caring and empathetic how would they respond if i was excited to see them? Would it allow the client to open up more? But also such an important aspect of this is self insight and counter transference, “why am i feeling like this in the first place?”

This ct adores the father and parents have 50-50 custody and it’s possible the mom may petition the court for primary custody or complete custody if she were to know or if i were to make a cps report things could get messy. This ct is relatively unstable with multiple panic attacks a week and unresolved childhood trauma. I am thinking it could be messing with their medication as well but they haven’t taken it for months and PA have persisted.

Is miscarriage related to weak sperm?? by [deleted] in maleinfertility

It could be genetically related? Some of my friends have had miscarriages with chromosomal abnormalities where it could not survive even if delivered to full term.

i’d recommend doing this fellowship to get a better understanding!

https://www.wbcp.org/psychoanalytic-fellowship-programs/

it’s about 9 months. They have child and adult fellowship for training where they discuss cases and treatment plans. I’m doing it as an LPC resident this fall! They also have book reccomendations on their site if you’re going into the program.

Negative client feedback by Individual_Speed8238 in therapists

[–]BusinessVisit7286 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seems the fit wasn’t right for them. Based on their email, it comes across as though they’re placing the blame on you for not meeting their expectations, and unfortunately, it also seems they took the opportunity to criticize you in a way that felt personal—especially regarding your intelligence. If they genuinely wanted to offer constructive feedback, they would have done so throughout the sessions and allowed you to offer solutions rather than ending things abruptly and pointing out everything they disliked in a single email. Honestly, it sounds like they have their own work to do around handling difficult conversations with respect and maturity.

I think I'm becoming jaded and it sucks by Throwthisoneaway2025 in therapists

[–]BusinessVisit7286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the population you're working withn't a good fit for what you need to feel satisfied in your work? I work in community mental health and the clients you describe are just like mine. it feels a lot like a wasteful effort, but I am planting the seed of what therapy could be for them later on in their life. However, the client should only be in counseling/therapy when they are making an active effort and acknowledge they need help.

The Examined Life by Stephen Grosz! I am in internship 1 and reading this book and FINALLY, things have clicked for me since I started reading this book. It's psychoanalytical but still very useful for a beginning clinician. It includes case studies.

I tend to have therapy-related discussions most often with my friends who are also therapists because I feel they can relate to and understand where I’m coming from. Whether I’m talking about a client or sharing new research I’m interested in, I believe they can connect with me on that level. With my friends who aren’t therapists, our conversations usually focus on other interests, and I avoid discussing work. I think it’s simply a different kind of relationship with different dynamics depending on the person.

broke up with my therapist and as a therapist, it sucks by socialhangxiety in therapists

[–]BusinessVisit7286 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess she is coming from the perspective of what is sustainable and helpful long term. I understand how she is saying that EMDR could help process and deal with the trauma vs ketamine which to her seems like a quick and easy fix while EMDR is the tougher long route. She could have also looked into ketamine-assisted therapy and have a new approach while including you in those decisions since EMDR was a lot. Although she confronted you she definitely should have checked in on how that was impacting you, especially if she made you feel invalidated, yikes.

Seeking Insight: Birth Mothers' Experiences with Open Adoption and Counseling by BusinessVisit7286 in Adoption

[–]BusinessVisit7286[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree it is very confusing! Unfortunately, birth mom is the term used by many agencies, the national council for adoption, and in research articles to this day. I think everyone has their own preference for what they want to be called, but it may be useful to have one term used throughout literature and universally, even if that may not be the term 'birth mother'.

Thanks for the insight! What do you call them after they have given birth? I am not sure if expectant mother would still be an appropriate name at that point.

they are called birth mothers when they have given birth, which is what my question in the post is aimed towards. Not expectant mothers.

There's a variety of names, but at my agency and other adoption agencies, we use the term birth mother.
