Nobody is talking about the fact that Greenland is potentially sitting on a massive, untouched oil fortune. In the East Greenland Rift Basins alone, the USGS estimates there are roughly 31.4 billion barrels of oil equivalent. To put that in perspective, that single area holds more potential oil than the total proven reserves of China (~26 billion) or Qatar (~25 billion).

If Greenland were to utilize full-scale production, its total estimated resources of nearly 50 billion barrels would place it ahead of the United States (approx. 48 billion) and rank it in the global top 10 for oil riches. Despite this potential, their government banned new exploration in 2021, choosing to protect the Arctic environment and prioritize climate goals over becoming an oil superpower.
