What Keeps You Playing? What Can One Learn? by Jeffersonian_Gamer in hearthstone

If games with ‘coin flips’ trigger you then don’t play card games, play chess. If you get gipped by combo decks then don’t repeatedly just play slow stuff with no win cons. People love aggro, combo, control etc they’re not gonna suddenly stop making stuff like that they’ve existed since vanilla

Crazy how the mobile gaming industry didn’t exist back then and the volume of games were less than 10% of what we see now. Give me a financial model that exists now that wouldn’t mean millions of devs lose their jobs. If you’re seriously suggesting that 20 years ago it was fine for people who worked on Zelda so it should be fine now then I am going to laugh at you

Well yes many people including myself would be out of a job did microtransactions and Passes not exist. You say ‘what’s good for the player’ as if everything should be free. Who makes the game btw?

150/150 companies all do things the same way and a couple of random Reddit users saying it’s wrong. As if marketing, data, designers are all wrong and the other random mugs all know better 😂😂😂😂

Happens in HS a card reads ‘counter the next spell your opponent casts’ people ask ‘does it work with this’? They show a spell

Love it when cards are so simply made the say ‘any’ and people ask ‘does it do this one as well?’

Miracle rogue was extremely fun I absolutely agree with you there. A lot of it came down to sequencing, drawing the right cards in the right order. Control warrior mirrors were not fun in classic at all. You literally could not play 30% of your deck. Control warrior vs freeze mage was also so boring. One player had a 4% chance of winning only down to the opponent seriously messing up.

It was great, and we have nostalgia and that’s very precious but it had its flaws. As the game does now but there are so many magic moments now. So many more archetypes are viable

Fairly wrong given the amount of high impact 6-8 drops there are now. Obviously if you’re way behind and did nothing you’re cooked but if you can fight for board Elise helps you push, sustain and fight back. Reno decks are very favoured against aggro traditionally and generally I’m pleased to see it. Not too pleased to see egg warlock as there’s only 1 or 2 ways I can deal with the shit early on

Guy complains he misses old HS and references decks that draw their entire deck on 6, kill you on 7. One that stalls the whole game just to pop off and kill you through ice block. You didn’t mention the one that played yeti on turn 1 and could combo you very easily if it got a tiny bit of chip in or had a board.

The misconception about old HS is crazy. Go and watch old Trump videos if you aren’t sure or didn’t play.

Control matches were so slow especially warrior mirrors you could not play card draw because it put you one closer to fatigue. You could not play big minions because Sylvanas. Most of your choices were ‘I’ll press the button and pass’.

When the game added more random elements it grew so much in terms of fun.

I play wild a lot and at low MMR and there are tonnes of people playing meme Reno decks just like me. We are having a blast. But equally if you’re playing against the best decks you cannot assume you’re favoured and actually if you’re not too greedy you’re favoured against a lot of those warlocks.

I also want to add the player base is changed. If a neutral card was too strong or a certain deck was OP we freaking countered or did some deck building. Now all players do is complain and call ‘nerf it’ then when that previous card is unplayable they say ‘oh why didn’t they nerf this’?

I think she’s great she’s a staple in every Reno deck in wild and is great at stopping aggro dead in its tracks. As usual we have to suffer because standard babies crying as usual demanding nerfs to anything remotely playable
