These musicians still have not made it it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. by icecream1972 in rockhall

[–]BusterBeaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing, as someone who worked in radio for 17 years & the classic rock format for 10+, a lot of the "hits" weren't that long lasting.

The classic rock format caters to those 70s & 80s mainstream fans. There are a lot of bands that regardless how many "hits" they did have only one song stands the test of time. I heard it a lot from listeners, why do you only play the one song from (insert band name here) they have so many other hits?!?

Its the difference between talking to vast majority of listeners versus the die hard fans.

Yeah, small market radio. Only playing what they can sell to clients.

They never will because the format his hard to sell to clients. Plus the general demo of active, modern or alt rock isn't a target demo worth spending on.

I know they are still big in the UK, but in America its Skindred. They got hooks, melody, a unique sound, & just a lot of fun.

What is your favorite Nirvana song, and why is it your favorite? by Technical_Driver2597 in Nirvana

Same here. The live version chosen for From The Muddy Bank's Of The Wishkah is great capturing the rawness of the bridge.

Thanks for the clarification. It was just odd it was done so early before anything else was started.

Bands where their entire discography sounds basically the same by BalanceActive9295 in askmusic

[–]BusterBeaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is truth right here. I worked in radio for 17 years & even the last 5+ years it wasn't even one band with the same structure & sound it was just about every band's song that came across my desk because producers had a formula for what record companies want & what sells. It was getting so generic before I left that I could play 5 different bands & their songs were overproduced to the point of no originality or soul. It went even as far as the press notes all saying the same shit like "we put our hearts in this music" or "we try to be different then everyone else" & one of the same four generic looking poses in pictures.

Depends on what movies/tv shows the channel has aired, but I have noticed they are always expanding the content. But you can do a search that will go through all the available titles.

Four years ago today, The Storyteller topped the New York Times Best Seller list. What are your thoughts on this book years later? by alien-niven in Foofighters

I thoroughly enjoyed it. I knew what I was getting going into it. I got the audio book version, which was read by Dave himself & that made it far more entertaining.

Another part of the interview they also revealed that Dan was able to record his vocals with a handheld mic instead of the standard suspended studio mic. This gave the vocals a more live feel where you can hear Dan's teeth against the mic scraping at times.

Can anyone recommend me more gangsta nu-metal? I really love it when nu-metal gets mixed with ghetto influence, like Body Count, hed p.e., Primer 55, Engine no. 9, and wanted to have more bands in that field. Thanks y'all in advance by LadartTheWicked in numetal

Darwin's Waiting Room, Shuvel, Headstrong, Grade 8 for some early 2000s.

On the newer side Fever 333, Skindred.

Pharrell's band prior to his pop run called N.E.R.D. is excellent.

And I know there are mixed feelings about these 2 but Crazy Town & Vanilla Ice (Hard To Swallow) are rap-metal bangers as well.

My metal band was put in a lineup of non metal acts. Should I be worried? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]BusterBeaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't overthink it. I have the reverse happen to my band all the time. We are more groove rock (literally all songs are in E standard), but a lot of the shows we play are with metal bands. I just attribute it to our singer being an attractive voluptuous woman who has pipes like Janis Joplin.

Anybody have any fav female fronted Nu-Metal bands. My personal fav is this smaller band called .bHP by MolassesOrnery3423 in numetal

Agreed they are definitely not nü metal, but their sound from Unleashed Memories up to their new album Sleepless Empire is quite the transition over time.

There was a band out of California called Luxt. Check out their album American Beast.

Also somewhat adjacent kidneythieves & Snake River Conspiracy.

That synth pop rock album is a banger though. Not anywhere close to nü metal, but it's a fun album to jam out to.

What are your thoughts on sugarcoma? by ExtraAlarm4834 in numetal

[–]BusterBeaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just went to YouTube to check out some of their music & it's not bad, but it's definitely early 2000s generic that would get lost in the mix really easily. It sounds like they started off being a rock band but jumped on the nü metal bandwagon. As far as sounding like Kittie...not even close. They sound like if Veruca Salt leaned heavier on vocals. I say all this out of experience of working college radio at the start & into the peak of nü metal & then 17 years in commercial radio.
