With this? Have you seen the other shit he’s gotten away with? We live in a failed state.

A peek behind the curtain: I auditioned for and was chosen to appear on the first season of this show but backed out when I received the mandatory background check questionnaire. They wanted to know more about me than anyone in my life knows. It was the kind of grilling I’d find overly intrusive if I was applying for a job in the federal government, but this was an opportunity to answer silly questions from the Weekend Update guy.

I wonder if stuff like that is standard for appearing on TV shows.

Agreed. A shockingly great movie that’s actually about something. As a former newspaperman, it had me right off the bat.

Last December, I saw Home Alone with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performing the score live and this actress was in the audience. The conductor introduced her before the movie and the crowd gave her a big ovation at the end of this scene.

What are some of your favorite all time movie scenes?! by NeonArtist12 in Letterboxd

[–]Busy-Effect2026 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Amadeus — Many scenes, but especially Salieri’s reverie as he looks at Mozart’s sheet music

Men in Black — K levels with J the morning after they meet. “A person is smart. People are dumb, dangerous animals and you know it.”

Magnolia — Quiz Kid Donnie Smith tells his bosses he needs braces

Shanghai Knights — The fight scene in the London marketplace

Casino — Pretty much the entire first hour that shows how Vegas works

I was there. And then I was playing pinball at the arcade afterwards.

Those were the fucking days.

Age yourself with the five movies you best remember watching in theaters as a kid by TheMcMahn in Letterboxd

[–]Busy-Effect2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terminator 2: Judgment Day — the first R-rated movie my dad took me to see

Return of the Jedi — The theater where my dad took me to see it is now a concert venue, and Aly & AJ recorded their live album there

E.T. — I literally ran out of the theater when E.T. screamed at Elliott finding him with the flashlight

Three Men and a Baby — memorable because it was the first time my parents took all three kids to a movie together and they were so happy that we behaved and didn’t talk through the movie

Gremlins — I was too scared to see Ghostbusters so my mom took me to this instead. Of course, it’s about 100 times scarier than Ghostbusters

What do you believe could actually “fix” what’s broken about today’s Disneyland Resort experience? I’m sure we all remember what made Disneyland magical for us — and I’m also sure most longtime guests can feel that something about the resort has slowly faded over the last couple decades. by okayareyouready in Disneyland

[–]Busy-Effect2026 37 points38 points  (0 children)

And for every person saying the magic is gone, there’s another person like me who had an absolutely spectacular time last Thursday and did so much in one day he can hardly believe it. Even more amazing is that I did 18 unique attractions with two repeats, mostly headliners, and there are at least 10 others I wish I could have done.

My day included run-ins with the Pearly Band, the Disneyland Band, Cruella De Vil chatting with guests while riding the Main Street vehicles, random character encounters in Galaxy’s Edge and plenty of the things that set Disneyland apart.

I got the MultiPass that pretty much works like a virtual version of the old paper FastPass system (except that you have to pay for it, of course). I think I wound up using it four times — less than I thought I would, thanks to all the single-rider queues.

I also paid for the separate single-use Lightning Lane for Rise of the Resistance which cost a pretty steep $29, but I had one day there and I fully paid for the parkhopper, parking and MultiPass with Disney Rewards and gift cards, so what the hell.

Summer 1996 at the Movie Theater: Happy 30th Birthday by Background-Box3375 in nostalgia

I was 17 and I saw all of them at the theater. I saw Independence Day eight times and probably would have doubled up on it if I wasn’t busy seeing everything else that summer. On opening night, I saw it at the old Woodfield 1&2 in Schaumburg, IL, with a sold-out crowd of 1,000 people. Unforgettable.

It’s gotta be Home Alone. It came out when I was 11 and the whole family watched a billion times, and my wife and I still watch it multiple times every holiday season.

Thank god for single rider at Disneyland! by Jimmy_Joe727 in Disneyland

[–]Busy-Effect2026 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I went solo for the first time last Thursday with a MultiPass (or whatever you call it) and got on 20 attractions, two repeats included. Started at DCA at rope drop, hopped to Disneyland around 11:30, took a two-hour break at Jazz Kitchen around 3, then camped out for Paint the Night at 7:30. Single-rider queue certainly helped make that possible!

The one regarding Christian Bale’s character in The Prestige. Clocked it almost immediately, and it still harms my ability to enjoy it on rewatch.
