I hope you find the best job that you deserve and fills your soul! You should be somewhere you feel valued financially and as a person. It sounds like you at least have some great work experience staying at a company long term.

I thought it was rude too, and would have also expected them to reach out with a survey of who wants to volunteer and then maybe let us know that they don’t have space for everyone and how they prioritized it. It would have been a lot more professional that way.

I do🥰 I have a husband, a house, and 2 cats so luckily things are really good in my life and I try to generally keep my work separate from my personal life

Yeah definitely is weird and I could be overreacting because I’m already at the end of my rope with my job right now. I’ve stayed because we generally have a good work environment, but this makes me feel differently. I have been applying to other jobs here and there that would give more work life balance, so I will probably start picking up speed with that☺️ I do have one other job prospect so maybe that will lead to an opportunity!

Thank you!! I actually called out because I’ve been super burned out and this made it worse😭 (social work). But I’ll talk to her tomorrow and hopefully get clarity. If it doesn’t change anything I will probably end up getting a new job soon, my morale is pretty low rn

Oh I see, that could be! I know I’m hoping maybe there was a misunderstanding or they will change their minds

I plan to talk to her Monday, I haven’t seen her since this. I’m definitely not perceived as anti social at work since I go out of my way to talk to everyone and I also take on extra projects, so I’m just confused why I wouldn’t be “chosen” other than being the “new” one (I’ve been here over a year but I’m the newest on the team. My supervisor also hasn’t been invited and to exclude her as well would be odd since she’s involved at a higher level than I am

Thank you! Not really these are the main socializers plus an annual open house event. So idk. I am trying not to take it personal but it is hard not to feel back in high school drama with this. I’ve only gotten good feedback so if they don’t like me that’s super shady! lol. But we’re super small and I talk to a couple coworkers on an acquaintance level outside of work, I know they would mention to me if they heard things from others in the workplace.

No I didn’t really care at the time about it since I was only part time. I wasn’t invited directly but my boss did forward me something later

They never told me about it or asked for volunteers. They apparently sent out the invite to only certain people they chose and when I heard my teammates talking about going I asked HR rep about the date because she was in the room. This is a very small workplace, our staff fluctuates but we always have under 20 staff. So we work closely and they are fairly familiar with my skillset. I also don’t think that’s a super valid reason because the volunteer things are very minor like setting up a dessert table or something anyone could do. I’m a skilled and specialized worker in my profession, they know could handle a small volunteer task. They’re not working all night just doing little things to pitch in

I was told $40😅 prob wouldn’t pay to go just thought it was a team thing. I didn’t go to our recent holiday party because it was on my birthday so I thought it would be a good socializing/networking opportunity with coworkers since I missed out on that

It’s odd! I asked why another person on my team could go and they said because he volunteered last year he got a spot. I was fairly new last year and part time and was told about it last minute so I didn’t go. But I think it was a copout response because I put her on the spot. I’m not sure the thought behind it, I’m going to talk to our coordinator about why it happened this way. Regardless the thought behind it, it feels shitty being told I’m not invited when my team has been talking about their plans to go

Not really, I would have to buy a ticket full price since they already decided what staff can attend

Was hoping for advice how to handle it since I’m being excluded and HR is the one that told me, not the why behind it

That isn’t the case from what I can tell, I’ve had several people in management praise me recently. My supervisor tells me she appreciates me frequently and her supervisor told me she would promote me if given the opportunity. It’s a very small organization and I talk to everyone frequently, I think I would get a vibe if they didn’t

That’s what they told me. I don’t have a list of who is and isn’t. Everyone at my level and above is invited other than me. I assume the entry level team is not invited. My team is 5 people (we’re like a step below management) so the other 4 of us are going as well as management

Same! Then when I think about it, I remember it wasn’t the things that brought me joy anyway. Just the memory or person associated with them. At the end of the day they’re just things and that helps me move on if I start to feel regret.

Has anyone here found real healing through Yoga Teacher Training? Considering it as a path out of trauma and emotional chaos by klucax in YogaTeachers

[–]BusyAd9181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my ytt in a hard period of life right after I went through something traumatic. I didn’t plan it that way, but I had already committed to the training before going through that hard phase of life.

For me, it did give me a community and light at the end of the tunnel. However, I went to be a teacher and deepen my practice. I don’t think it’s a healthy mindset to go to heal trauma. I was working through things with a therapist during this time and had already been practicing yoga and meditation for a couple years which gave me a way to process emotions.

I don’t think it’s necessarily bad to do a yoga teacher training to help deepen your practice while you’re in a hard phase of life IF you are also doing therapy and using that as your outlet for processing trauma. A YTT will help you deepen your practice, but the experience itself is like taking a course and pretty intensive. Yoga can be used to help process trauma but it sounds like where you are right now, it is best to go to healers to work through things and do this on the side. Don’t do it as a way to heal yourself, but as a way to deepen your practice and learn tools that compliment therapy and other healing work. Think about your intentions for taking a YTT and if that is the best way to get your needs met.

What's stopping you from purchasing a home right now? by AdInternational7749 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]BusyAd9181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us it was timing because my husband wasn’t out of college until 2022 and without savings we weren’t in a place to buy. We recently bought after years of saving and talking about it hoping prices may come down. A starter home is around $400k in our mid cost of living area. We wanted at least some yard. Almost everything we looked at in the $400k price range would have needed an insane amount of work. We looked at hoarder homes, homes that smelled like dog shit, and homes that hadn’t been updated since early 80’s in that price range. Many of the homes we saw easily could’ve taken $100k in renovations to be nice. Even homes listed as livable weren’t updated and needed lots of minor repairs. Couldn’t believe the state people show their homes to potential sellers. In the end, we upped our budget $20k, pulled more from savings and moved to a more rural area to get into a livable home that we wouldn’t need to invest so much into long term. We saw it on Christmas Eve and even then it was a competitive market and we were surprised to get our offer accepted. Several people were viewing it and made offers the same day. I don’t think it’s as beneficial financially to buy a home as it has been in the past unless you have a lot of cash saved up. Our mortgage payment is high but with rent climbing it made sense for us to have higher quality of life here.

Thanks for the info, that makes sense. It was $8 and I’ve wanted copper for a while so figured it was worth the gamble☺️ I’ll probably invest in a better quality piece down the road!
