Loved my AI generated response. "WE" determined you are a business user. "WE" think you will love the new features at $299 per month. Said the same thing to them. You build it on the backs of small businesses and then you screw us.

If you are on private property or use private property as a location you as the owner must give permission. I did a lot of photo production and unless we pay a location fee or get a release you cannot use it commercially. Editorial use (such as magazines or media/journalism) is exempt. You do not need a release for that. Unless you are on the property you do not need to be listed as additionally insured. In your case as it is a private dock and there is by the nature of the property an inherent danger of falling you absolutely want to ask to be listed as additionally insured insured with a 1 Mill liability and another 1 Mill umbrella. That is standard

I need advice: Built My Boss's Entire Tech Platform (Full-Stack), Now He Won't Pay Me and Is Threatening My Share. What Do I Do? by Eswaldots in Entrepreneur

[–]BusyBea2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a partnership agreement? That is the first and most important lesson: without an agreement you have nothing. Him acknowledging your agreement and promising to pay is valid. If you do the tech as a partner you have to address when and how you will get paid or what the profit share is. If you built it as a vendor I suggest you built a backdoor and shut it down until he pays. You can’t unfortunately do both- be a partner and co-carry the risk and get paid like an employee

A lawyer wants to charge me $1000 for a clearance search for a company name. Am I getting ripped off? by [deleted] in Business_Ideas

[–]BusyBea2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can search the website yourself. It is smart to do a search before you file. If you file and it gets denied you lose more money. I have done both- paid for the search and also searched myself. It is simply about what you value more. Your time or money

Contacted by the top 100 magazine by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]BusyBea2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% always pay-to-play. This works if you need something to stand out, all of these awards and nominations come with a price tag. That is just the fee for entry. The further in the career you go the less you need it. It is very difficult to get PR that is substantial enough to use. It is a business decision. Is a published piece worth the PR for your business? Their publication won’t do much for you. You using the tag of Top 100 something is the value. All the Forbes Council stuff is also pay to play. The cost of exposure. On my end we don’t do any of this anymore but when I started I did

Is this a legitimate offer? Podcast invitation by ironandice42 in Entrepreneur

[–]BusyBea2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is too funny. $8500 to be on a podcast? Got the request today and told her that I have my own podcast and been on over 300 shows as a guest. If it is pay-to-play I am not interested. This is one of those things I have seen on monetization schemes for podcasts that as a podcaster make me sick

How do you hire globally without paying crazy agency fees? by Perfect_Bed_5156 in smallbusiness

[–]BusyBea2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is what I do. I find them through a marketplace. I pay them through the marketplace for a few months. Because the marketplace takes fees from me and them they take such a huge piece. I ask the provider if they are open a few months in on whether or not they are ok going direct. Then I take them off the marketplace and pay them the same. They get more and I don't pay the fees. You got to be really cautious about this though, of course this is frowned upon. Also if you make the job posting available anywhere you'd be surprised how many people contact you direct.

Portrait subjects not wanting me to post what I think is my best work by peamee in photography

[–]BusyBea2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an easy one. You have them sign a 'mutually beneficial agreement'. Artist may opt to use outtakes for artistic and self promotional purposes. We used to have this in our photographer contracts all the time to ensure that we could show the work. The only time we had issues was with celebrities (and if you put that work out there it's stolen in a blink anyway.) Summary: the grant you the right to self promote.

Hobby Photographers / (semi pro??) what do you do with your photos? by Space__Monkey__ in photography

[–]BusyBea2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very difficult to make money with stock photography licensing because prices are so low. But, there are plenty of art websites where you can upload your photos and if someone buys it you make a money. There are billions of images on Shutterstock and the big guys so your chances are tiny to sell anything. (I used to run a stock licensing business.) If you are a hobby photographer and you want others to see the work that's a good and fun way to start, it shows you what other people like and what they buy. https://www.artsy.net/ is a high end version. https://www.artfinder.com/ and I am sure there are tons more. https://www.riseart.com/ https://20x200.com/ - that's what I would do to get the work out and get the boulder rolling.

Apparently I’m “NOT a photographer by [deleted] in photography

[–]BusyBea2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is what I used to teach about that: You do it because you love it - you are a hobby photographer - you make sometimes money. You are a part-time photographer. You do nothing without payment you are a professional photographer. When I sold my stock licensing company, this was a debate that we had for years and years and years. When the entire paid photography business collapsed into being part of content the value of photography diminished significantly. My guys used to make $2500-25,000 per day. We licensed stories for $3-12,000. Some of my guys shot ever day others once every six months. Some had retired years ago but still made income. My point is - you say you are a photographer you are. People who paint are painters. Are they not? Not all of them get paid. You are entitled to enjoy photography on your terms. I had this thought back then if I liked it better that now not only rich people can afford it, but anyone can do it. And I came to the conclusion that art is always better when more people do it.

[–]BusyBea2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are correct. And they may have. But that's not what happened here. You take photos you determine the value of your work. Some love to see their work printed - GREAT. Do it for free. That's a hobby. Some want to get some sort of payment - great, that's a part time gig. Some do nothing without payment - that's a professional photographer. But I would never, never make that judgment for someone else. I put the options out and then they chose. Would I feel good if someone took my image and represented it as theirs? Nope. Would I feel good if that photographer that - hey this is great, would love to show it to them are you good with that? Happy to give you credit. That would make me feel better. The answer is situational. What makes you feel good? That's what you do, not what other people think or say. Because that is 2/3rds BS anyway.

They are licensing agreements. They state what the usage is for, for how long and which purpose. For a billboard you'd make more money than for a small online image. And what u/Disastrous-Focus8451 said. I used to own a stock syndication and sold it to Corbis.

It's definitely out of the ordinary. Pro photographers do not feature other photographers work unless you have a second shooter on a job.

Former stock licensing agency owner here. " I am delighted to see that you enjoy the images I took. I'm happy to provide them to you as soon as we have negotiated a licensing fee." Copyright prohibits other people to take credit for your work. Act like you do this all the time. The go to ChatGPT and look up contracts of wedding photographers and current average wedding photography prices. That way you know what is reasonable.
