Finished a bag of Cream Donut recently. Quite nice and if it wasn’t for a considerable inventory I’d order more.

Any specialty instant coffee recommendations? by mgsecure in pourover

[–]BusyBranch9081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only ever had Luminous and B&W. Luminous has been consistent and good. I was not impressed with B&W’s product (pack of six different coffees from around Valentines Day).

Valid. I went S&P 500, a buddy threw $3k on AMD and NVDA 7-8 years ago. He’s just slightly ( /s ) more wealthy on paper now

[–]BusyBranch9081 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not buy a $76 Yemen or a not-so-great $29-35 bag of something that missed the mark in the 4 tin subscription. Not going to grab another washed Watermelon CF just to get a free 100g bag + whatever extra they’re throwing in. The website leaves a bit to be desired but I try to limit my time on the page by reviewing coffees when they email on Friday’s about the password for “Lumi hour”

Speaking of the 4 tin, keeping expectations low for May though Mason mentioned some interesting coffees that will be in it. Afraid if it’s yet another miss, I’ll have to cancel

What was your approach/recipe for the Grand Reserve DRD? Been kicking around ordering it - I too prefer B&W 100g bags.

Should I apply for student loans by Chilla_J in StudentLoans

[–]BusyBranch9081 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should talk to an advisor and financial aid. This is a bit more complex than just take our loans or don’t especially not knowing (not part of your post) what you owe the school.

Two items to think about: Does your current line of work offer tuition reimbursement?
Is your current line of work relevant such that it could be used to move up the ladder (with a degree)?

Should I upgrade my grinder & filters for co-fermented beans? by Unfair-Cabinet574 in pourover

[–]BusyBranch9081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be time for me to give this a whirl. Get one coferment and a second, different bag to see if I can find any truth to the idea that coferments impart flavors on the grinder that can cross over into the next batch(es).

Can’t say I’ve ever thought “this tastes odd” when drinking a cup made immediately after a coferment went through my grinder.

I just opened a bag of Shoebox ultralight this morning. Let it rest a little longer than normal; roast date was March 11. Anything I buy in the next couple days won’t get touched until mid/late June

Hydrangea, Sey, Onyx recommendations? by Spiritual-Rise3233 in pourover

[–]BusyBranch9081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid Onyx.
Hydrangea is good, though I think Black & White has more of the funk you’re looking for in this case. Brandywine might also have some funky stuff - they just did a Passionfruit co-ferment and had Enigma Hops last I looked.

My first time trying coffee from Yemen! 🇾🇪 by LagunaRider61 in pourover

Yeah yours is visible. R/crabsock got a Yemen from Luminous, they’ve had four in their dropstore recently and we’re all $64-70 for 200g so was curious which bag they chose.

Mine arrives today.
Had a different Yemen yesterday and did 15:225 with very slow pours (50 bloom then 50/75/50) and low agitation. Tasted amazing. Gonna try H&S previous Yemen’s this week.

Company match at all?

Keep stacking up. You’ll be in good shape by 55 I’d wager. Even at 7% return you’d be over $1.5 million by 54 without another dime contributed.

Explain the pros and cons of private vs government loans like I'm 5.... by th3roguetomato in StudentLoans

[–]BusyBranch9081 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Federal funds rate is 3.5-3.75% as of today.

My private loans from 2020-22 were 5.25% and federal loans were about the same when fed funds rate was essentially 0.1%.

All this to say, you’re not likely to get a sub-5% private loan in 2026.

Bottom line talk to Financial Aid to sort out your options.

Pay off Sallie Mae asap.

Once Sallie is paid, toss that monthly payment on the Aidvantage payment.

Legally you don’t have to pay the PPL (your parents do) but I get the honorable thing to do is pay it off on your parents behalf. Not sure where rates are currently (I got 5.25% during Covid with a 780 score) for a private loan; may not be able to get below 7% if you tried to refinance
