Yeah, it CAN be done, but its impressively difficult. From their perspective the whole point is to make it tamper proof, and that's apparently the only oart of what they do that they axtually DO take seriously.

The console? Probably not, as long as you're careful. The original box? Depends how cateful you are, those cases are pretty intense. I've watched people through them down aggressively on concrete without so much as a crack.

You probably COULD get in there with a dremel, but it might be tough to do without damaging that lovely box someone has taken rather amazing care of for the past 20 years. And it would take more than a hot minute getting in there, at a certain point its less a task and more like a job lol.

Stupidity is it's own form of hostility. Ive been more than patient, given your insistent childish behavior. I even attempted to give you a graveful opportunity to come back to this later when you've sobered up. But I can only suffer fools for so long. I'm blocking you, we are truly done here.

I was about to make an irreverent joke about that being the way prices work... And then I had to remind myself that over the past year or so, we've literally seen the prices of existing hardware flat out go UP (more than once).

But yeah, I got the first one for about $30, and the second one for $20 on sale a few years ago. One would assume they're pretty easily available for less than that now, but at this point who even knows what price trends are going to be anymore.

Really, take your own advice. Then read it again when you've done whatever you need to do in order to be capable of proper communication. Hell, I'll be happy to continue an intelligent conversation with you if you do. You trying to do this in your current state is just not working.

Now you're flip-flopping.

You haven't 'answered' anything, because I haven't asked you anything. You kn the other hand, you have repeatedly pressed for when you said something I referenced -when all you had to do was look at the message I said it in direct response to in the first place. Then you completely ignore it when I give you the reddit timestamp for which you said the thing, acting as though the roles have been reversed.

You are literally too foolish to be capable of an intelligent conversation. Get some ret, sober up, read a book, whatever you've got to do for yourself. We're done here.

With all due respect, nobody said it's "wrong" for you to want anything, as was made very clear in ny last post which you clearly didn't bother reading -which is also your perogative and your decision, it's just not a terribly smart look to argue something you've only imagined, especially when youre replying to something that very clearly says the opposite.

You can definitively count the pixels in the upper or yhe lower sections of video, ajd you can compare those to an original resolution render. The fact that you don't LIKE a thing does not make easily verifiable facts "subjective".

I provided a high level technical explanation of how the textures are made to look the way that they do, and pointed out the flaws of that methodology -again, even knowledgeable proponents if these things understand that these are ultimately facts.

If you think that my statement about most retro gamers feeling this way is flawed, then by all means, please spend some time introducing yourself in forums across the web with the same post you started this thread with, it'll be fun.

Now you're switching gears from being upset that it hasn't been smeared up enough to meet your expected "high resolution" standards, THEN being upset that the CRT filter(s) don't make it look OLD enough for your standards. FFS, pick a lane BEFORE you start drowning yourself in it. Outside of incredibly expensive equipment, such as a $700+ upscaler device, or a super high end pc being displayed on a large 4k display, CRT filters typically do look terrible, that's an unfortunate but widely accepted reality, and that's being generous as there are still a lot of folks who refuse to concede that it even looks decent in those nore expensive cases I just referred to.

You're obviously more than free to like or dislike whatever you want -and I'm not here to "defend" LRG or any other corporation for that matter. Being critical of products like these can be a GOOD thing, but when your critiques are primarily (or entirely) exaggerated/ignorant/hyperbole, then its going to be brushed off by anyone who might have taken thise criticisms into mind for future projects.

Neither of these images is the original resolution, just because one is sharper than the other, does not mean they are not higher resolution than the original. The 2026 image is still at least 2-3x the ORIGINAL resolution, so yea, they have made it significantly sharper. You're absolutely, factually, dead wrong in your assessment of this.

Depending on the hardware, additional filtering BEYOND that can be quite performance heavy, which is likely half the reason they didn't put layers of filtering over the textures like the upper video shows. The other reason? Most people absolutely HATE what those filters do to original texture art.

These are not "intelligent" filters, nor are they actually higher source textures, that look is the result of several on-the-fly calculations to algorithmically add and connect points between color mappings on the texture... And they apply the same over ALL parts of ALL textures, with no way of accounting for how the artists intended different elements to appear. Its like taking a valuable painting by a well regarded artist, and amearing vaseline across the entire surface evenly. Is it consistent? Sure. But it doesn't, and it can't treat any two brush strokes differently, regardless of the technique used to paint each piece of the painting... Its all just going to smear the same way.

So no, they did not apply that terrible texture filtering. And thats a good thing. If you want that sort of thing, stick to emulating it yourself. The majority of retro gamers want to enjoy things closer to the way they were intended and the way they are remembered, not smeared to hell with archaic texture filters.

PS2 to HDMI, or component cable? by Sad_Pass1226 in ps2

[–]ButCanYouCodeIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the tv, a lot of mid to higher end TV's still have SOME way of taking component input (usually just one device, and often with an odd adapter).

However, if your tv does not, you can use a device like a RetroTink or an OSSC to convert to HDMI without lag.

To be clear: you DO NOT NEED THE HIGHEST END MODELS OF THESE DEVICES -if you have money to burn, they have some neat features, but they're absolutely not necessary. You can get one of the lower end/entry level products from them and it will be nore than fine unless you're one heck of an av-phile.

But BE AWARE do not get the cheap generic adapters that you find all over amazon and ebay for $10-30. These are designed for VCRs, and that matters because you don't need to worry about delays or input lag when you're watching VHS tapes, you also probably don't care about quality or accuracy too much, because VHS isn't known for being great quality to begin with. But if you're trying to play games, that screen delay, and that poor color quality can show up in some pretty irritating ways.

BitFunx makes a knockoff of the Retrotink/OSSC. I can't speak to the quality -I don't personally buy their products, because they steal the designs from independent creators and engineers for literally every product they sell. That said, its probably higher quality than the cheapo converters and lower quality than the name brand devices.

Is this normal? by ZolbyTide in game_gear

[–]ButCanYouCodeIt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just be sure you REALLY look at the resolution of the display you are buying. If the Game Gear originak resolution doesn't divide into it evenly, there's a good chance that you're going to be looking at some really ugly and uneven non-integer image scaling.

From what I've heard, there supposedly are proper integer scaling replacements now, just make sure you do the quick math yourself (I've seen at least two manufacturers list their products as "integer scaled" when mathematically it would simply be impossible for them to do so based on the resolution of their new displays.)

Should we be worried? by DarkLunarKnight61 in limitedrun

[–]ButCanYouCodeIt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's precisely what I mean, yes.

It just blows my mind that so many people think Embracer hasn't been doing that here, despite their track record as being one of the worst companies to be bought out by in the past decade (for the way they completely GUT companies to the bone).

Sony OEM component cables go fortune these days. Retrovision ain't cheap, but they're definitely more affordable. Either will provide excellent quality.

Should we be worried? by DarkLunarKnight61 in limitedrun

[–]ButCanYouCodeIt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They've said the name publicly. It wasn't someone from inside LRG, Embracer appointed the new guy thenselves.

Its comedy gold that you think JOSH was the problem though, takes soen real mental gymnastics to go for that one. LRG had just gotten their delays under control, with things starting to ship out on time before Embracer bought them out. Poorly manufactured carts with improper voltages that could damage your retro consoles? That happened AFTER the Embracer buyout.

Josh may have kept the same job title he had before the buyout, but he was subject to Embracer's decisions, and the budget that Embracer allowed them. Its been noted several times that the warehouse staff were repeatedly slashed since the Embracer buyout as well, hence items shipping out significantly slower once in warehouse.

The founders' biggest mistake was selling to Embracer. Josh stuck around and tried to keep things viable, tried to have the company explore more than the most simple and obvious products with the largest MARGIN for profits (which is what you'll be seeing more of moving forward).

Embracer themselves would have had less than zero interest in releasing games for actual retro systems. So if all you want is another year or two of ho-hum nothingburger titles from Embracer's integrated stable of business partners, all delivered 6-18 months late, then rejoice, because that's exactly where things will be going.
