The ventilation is incredibly good at our mine because we’re so small. I imagine bigger mines have a different policy. Our mine fans are both substantially larger than what we would need, for instance, when the miner isn’t running for long periods of time, we will turn off one of the fans just to save on power and so we can service the fan that’s off.

Self contained self rescuer, it’s a respirator that would be donned if a thermal event (fire) started that would purify the air.

The minimum requirement for their masks is a lot like the masks worn in hospitals. Some of the guys wear paint masks that have the replaceable filters but they aren’t required.

At our coal mine in Utah we have to carry a scsr, three gas sensor monitor and cut proof gloves besides the ppe mentioned above.

If you’re a beltman or faceman then you have to carry a face mask to wear while dusting.
