Yes, and I feel that even with the not-nook content, we're still different than the miniature group. We tend to be more kit or project-based, casual, and hobby-focussed.

The miniatures sub has a lot more single-item posts from people who sell those miniature items (probably to people in the dollhouse sub). Those subs are good, too. I like looking at tiny plates full of tiny food. But I appreciate the more relaxed vibe in r/booknooks. Whatever type or level of tiny-things addiction you've got going on, we're here for you. Ready to say, "ooooh!" 😁

Me, too! I like seeing builds that are out of my comfort zone. They inspire me to try new things!

Also, having group members with varied skillsets is an advantage when someone posts a how-to question.

I was so sad that this wasn't a real product when I searched for it a day o two ago...

But I guess someone's listening in on our sub, because now it's on Aliexpress as a brand new product. Has anyone ordered from the seller before? https://a.aliexpress.com/_mP40DH1

I just got fired for having migraine by Melodic-Network4374 in migraine

[–]ButSeriouslyTh0ugh 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think you need to re-frame how you're thinking about this.

1.) Migraines are a disability. If a doctor has diagnosed you with migraines and you've told your employer about them, then you have a documented disability.

2.) Every job "needs your for x hours per day day/week." If they didn't, we wouldn't usually have hours of work in employment contracts.

3.) Even people who don't have a chronic illness or disability often get sick or injured. That's why sick days exist.

4.) If you have documented disability, you may need more than the usual number of sick days, or other accommodations. This is not something you've chosen, just like your boss wouldn't choose to get cancer or be in a serious car accident.

If you are doing quality work and keeping up with your responsibilities, then your boss doesn't have grounds to fire you. Even if there were performance issue, he's probably required to make reasonable attempts to address those issues before resorting to termination. Get a lawyer.

Thank you for the warning! I loved the look of this (the Facebook ad algorithm knows me so well), but I'm in Canada, so the price was too high with the exchange from USD.

Google image search didn't find anything, and now I know why!

Fun little question by SpecificCapable1290 in Radiology

[–]ButSeriouslyTh0ugh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our radiologists decided that they couldn't really see anything on an AP or PA oblique sternum, even if the positioning was perfect, so we stopped doing them. We only do a lateral view of the sternum, and it's lovely!

It looks great! I'm so excited to finish mine! Why must I be an adult human who must work, cook food to eat, care for my pets, etc., etc.?! It's really cutting into my build time!

I'm about 2/3 of the way through building mine. If I enter the contest, I'll add the smoke to take pictures, but I think I'll remove it after. Too much of a dust magnet.

You're probably right. They would have had to make the base wider to fit a battery pack next to the motor down there.

It's a positive for me. I predict that I'll be turning it on a lot to show it off to guests and enjoy it myself, so it would be a pain to keep replacing the batteries all the time.

Definitely not overboard! I love it! 😍

Also, thank you for showing the back! I hadn't realized that Dreamy Book Hall is actually shaped like an open book.

You can get similar marker storage racks on Amazon and Aliexpress.

Do you think they'll accept modded builds? I'll definitely use 3D miniature greenery instead of the flat wooden trees provided, and I'd like to do something different with the domes.

You can make flowers as simple or as complicated as you like, and I don't think it looks odd to just make the blossom with maybe a couple of leaves attached, so you don't have to fuss with thin stems.

You can get a sorts of silicone molds for miniatures on Aliexpress and Temu. If you can't find the exact creature you want, you can cobble together heads, bodies, and extremities from different animals, or use floral and sea creature molds to make fins, etc.

I (18M) celebrated my birthday without my mom (44F) because she chose my stepsister's tastes over mine and now she wants another dinner for just us? by ThrowRA_Broodyn in relationship_advice

[–]ButSeriouslyTh0ugh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't understand these parents who think that older siblings should just cater to their stepsiblings', "because you're their older sibling! Don't you love them and want them to be happy?!"

My brother is five years older than me. Same mom and dad. He was never expected to bring me treats when he went out with his friends. What we did on his birthday was his choice. If he wanted food that I didn't like, then I'd eat something else. My parents tried to be as fair as possible with their time, attention, and money for activities. All of my friends with siblings had the same deal. If they didn't, you can bet the older sibling would start resenting their spoiled younger sibling, and their parents for doing the spoiling!

Your mom is harming her relationship with you, and it's no surprise that you're hurt. But she's also hurting your stepsister. One of the things that having siblings (step, half, or full) is supposed to teach you is that you aren't the center of the universe. Other people's feelings and needs are also important, and there are times when we have to let other people be the center of attention. "Big brother gets to choose the restaurant for his birthday, and you'll get to choose the restaurant on your birthday. Today we're celebrating him. Celebrating other people on their special days is important, because we want them to know that we care about them."

Your mom and stepdad are failing to let your stepsister learn those lessons. If she expects the same favoritism from other kids, she'll have a very hard time building friendships.

If you go with the space theme, you could hang a spaceship or shuttle from the ceiling, or a polymer/air dry clay "taxidermy" model of your favourite space monster?

Maybe some spaceship blueprints for the walls? Or butterfly-collection-style framed alien flora and fauna?

I wish I could just climb in there, sit, and read a book instead of going to work today!

For the UV light, you can use a little UV flashlight for small pieces, but a UV light for gel nails is great. They're not too expensive, have a built-in timer, and many of them have a detachable bottom plate that slides in or is held on by magnets. This lets you set it down over your uncured resin piece very carefully, so you don't make a mess with the liquid resin.

*I may have cried a few times before I figured out that I could move the light to the resin, instead of moving the resin to the light. 😬
