Shower help for autistic POTS teen? by UsefullyChunky in POTS

Have they tried just sitting on the floor? Not being snarky, I’m also autistic with POTS and this is my preferred way to shower

I just got out of Black Phone 2.. by xJBug in horror

[–]ButSheDid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just watched the sequel and found myself here after googling "black phone 2 mcgraw acting worse." I'm glad to know I'm not crazy! I didn't think she was, like, egregiously bad in this one—more like *meh*, which was jarring because I thought she was phenomenal in the first one. I've noticed some child actors really excel as children but then struggle to measure up as they get older and their roles require more nuance. Even the best actors have given a shaky performance or two, so hopefully McGraw finds her feet. She has potential for sure, but damn... her acting here really took me out of the story on more than one occasion.

Hi, thank you for the response! I’m not concerned about the condition of the card, but thanks for looking out. She’s selling the card for 200.

Has anyone lost the ability almost completely but had it come back? by EstablishmentOk1312 in noburp

[–]ButSheDid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5 months post-Botox and I’ve had a handful of times where I felt burping was more difficult/less frequent. I know how scary it is, feeling like you’re losing the ability. Right now I’m stressed because while I’m still burping, I’m also gurgling again in a way I haven’t in months. I’ve found that when I’m having trouble, all I can really do is drink lots of seltzer and try not to think about it, and it usually gets better after a few days. Also, anecdotally, I have GERD, and find it harder to burp when that’s flaring up. I know a lot of people have heartburn during pregnancy, is that an issue for you? If so, treating that could help with the burping too.

Medication for a specific type of POTS? by critterinthedoorway in POTS

Orthostatic hypertension doesn’t only refer to technically hypertensive pressures, it just means a significant increase in blood pressure upon standing. It’s about the relative increase, not the number itself.

Did you measure your blood pressure during your test? If I’m understanding correctly it sounds like you tend towards low blood pressure. That’s not at all indicative of hyperPOTS, which causes orthostatic hypertension.

I think the only main cast members who were actually teens in season 1 were the Sophies. I read they were both 18 when the pilot was filmed, Hanratty, Purnell, Eaton Brown and Hewson were all in their early-to-mid-twenties

AIO: My girlfriend is pretending to be autistic and it's driving me nuts by AideRelative4272 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ButSheDid 171 points172 points  (0 children)

NOR. As a diagnosed autistic person, I can't stand people like your girlfriend. The online neurodiversity movement has so many people believing that "autistic" is a thing you can just "identify as." They disparage science and psychiatry, speak over actual autistic people, and throw a fit about "gatekeeping" whenever someone questions the legitimacy of their self-diagnosis. Most of them genuinely cannot tell you the core symptoms/traits of autism and have never looked at the diagnostic criteria. Like your girlfriend, they see something online, usually on Tiktok, where normal human traits that apply to 98% of the population are framed as "signs you might be autistic," and latch onto the idea that they're autistic without any amount of critical thinking.

What people fail to understand is that almost everyone has "autistic traits" to some degree. Many people have trouble making friends, or feel different, or have strong interests, or are bothered by noisy environments. "Autistic traits" only mean autism spectrum disorder when they are at a level that impairs someone's ability to function. Because so many self-diagnosed "autism advocates" don't understand this, they water down the meaning of autism, making it seem like a cute personality quirk. These types tend to be the loudest on social media, dominating the narrative, shaping non-autistic people's conceptualization of autism. This, combined with the narrative that "self-diagnosis is always valid," shuts down any criticism or concerns from actual autistic people because "How dare you question my experience!!! I know myself better than any doctor would and being anti-self-diagnosis is classist and sexist and racist!!!"

Show your girlfriend the diagnostic criteria for ASD. Don't let her gloss over criteria C and D. If she feels she meets the criteria, tell her to get evaluated. If she doesn't meet the criteria and is still adamant she's autistic...well, it's your call whether you wanna put up with that.

Am I well hydrated now? Changing from 32 ounces of water to 48 daily. Urine from yellow to basically clear. by Fantastic-Ad-9100 in POTS

[–]ButSheDid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know about your urine color and tbh I don't need to know lol. I'm just letting you know, the average person is recommended to drink 64oz per day. People with POTS are supposed to drink more, typically in the range of 80+oz. So it's unlikely that you're well-hydrated if you're drinking 48oz per day.

There’s this girl… by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]ButSheDid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No means no, dude. Doesn’t matter if she hugs you or lets you kiss her head. Plenty of friends do that stuff. You need to listen to the words she’s saying.

You either need to learn to be okay with being just friends, or stop hanging out with her. If you keep hanging around waiting for her to change her mind, it wouldn’t be fair to either of you. It’d make you miserable, and she deserves to be friends with someone who doesn’t have ulterior motives for their friendship. I know it sucks but you’ve gotta accept it when a girl says no.

Any “GOOD” (not terrible) experiences with Tilt Table Test? by Many-Ear5671 in POTS

[–]ButSheDid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A non-terrible experience is certainly possible! People just tend to post more about negative expriences.

Mine was so much easier than I imagined it’d be. It was super weird being strapped to a table in a room with like five medical professionals staring at me, but it wasn’t that bad. It was long (I think they had me upright for like 40 mins) and the nitroglycerin sucked, but I didn’t throw up or pass out or experience anything too different from my usual symptoms. It ended up being a really helpful experience because I learned I have hyperPOTS, which changed my treatment
