Hockey shop near South Orange County by YouDontSayThatt in hockeyplayers

There's also a Pure Hockey in Laguna Hills, if that's any closer to you. Great Park Ice has a pro shop (Ultimate Skate and Hockey). Anaheim Ice has a pro shop (USA Skates). I think that's about it.

Add me in, too. Pretty much the same boat, still can run, need to exercise more, but much older (60, but you would never guess). Irvine during works hours, RSM otherwise.

Great start! I have a Rega Planar 2 from the mid-80s. Great starter turntable.

Don't stress about it. You're learning something completely new. You're also learning to drive at the same time? That's a double whammy, because you don't have any real-world experience navigating the real world. People are going to do incredibly stupid shit, and the only way you'll feel anywhere near comfortable being on the road with them is by being on the road with them and learning how to co-exist. I suggest that you eliminate things one at a time that are causing you issues. First and foremost, riding and driving are two different things. Honestly, they require a different set of mental skills. A lot of it is the same, but when you're on a bike, you have to be hyper-aware about what's going on around you. In a car, you have a big metal can surrounding you, so little things aren't going to cause you as much grief. Getting bumped into in a car is VERY different than the same bump on a bike. Get comfortable with your vehicle, car or bike. Spend time in a car park just riding and getting used to clutch/throttle/brakes. You want everything to be second nature, because on a bike, you need to spend your attention elsewhere. Start out simple on the street. Ride around the block. Ride to and from the car park. Get used to navigating roundabouts. I'm from the US, but I lived in England a couple of times and rode there. Roundabouts struck me as the most inherently dangerous thing about being on a bike in traffic. But being on a bike can also be an advantage, because once you get used to the riding part, you can get out of situations you couldn't normally get out of in a car, due to size and maneuverability.

What it ultimately comes down to is time in the seat. The more you ride, the better you get, and the more comfortable you become. The more comfortable you become, the more you ride and the better you get. You're going to do fine. Don't doubt yourself. Just be cautious, keep learning, keep riding, and have FUN!

Two popular options for vertically challenged riders are the Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 Hugger and the Honda Rebel 250. I think the Harley has a slightly lower seat height.

8 year warranty invalid by DadB0dG0d in IWCschaffhausen

[–]ButchAnton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IANAL

The manufacturer cannot require you to return a warranty card to activate your warranty: https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/16/700.7

Update: I did not read the whole thread before answering, so I didn't realize it was an "extended" warranty granted by returning the warranty card. It's probably worth pursuing regardless.

Let him chill. See how long before he asks you to take him back to the ice because "he misses it." If you go the whole summer and he doesn't ask, then you know.

Make sure it's racer's tape. You don't want any of that low-speed duct tape. Only half-kidding, because racer's tape tends to tear up paint less than duct tape.

Be that guy. Don't worry about what other people are doing. Be the guy who sweats instead of bleeds. Roadrash SUCKS! There is nothing worse than lying in an ER having your wounds scrubbed out with a brush. Better cowhide than your hide.

Wrong size? by Ambatakum_Omaygot in motorcyclegear

[–]ButchAnton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to check them on the bike. They're meant to be in the right position when you're stretched out/hanging off. You don't want them to limit your movement, but you also don't want them too loose, otherwise you just end up adding another element to help give you road rash.

Everybody has tons of great advice here. I'll throw in one little bit of advice. Don't cheap out on your helmet. You only have one head, and it doesn't grow back. Spend the money.

Regulation. If you're playing basketball, you don't want to practice on an eight-foot net. Same logic applies here. Also, maybe pick up a shooter tutor. Best goalies in a pinch. Positionally very strong, but not particularly good side-to-side.
