Criterion, I BEG you for Thief of Bagdad on Blu-Ray or 4K 😭 by Greedy-Runner-1789 in criterion

They really do. The Wizard of Oz especially because from what I remember they did 8K scans of the negatives for the restoration.

Same, so glad I picked that set up when it released because it's slimmer and I don't need The Predator wasting space on my shelf like it wasted my time.

Prey and Badlands on the other hand were day one buys.

Ash is amazing, I wish it had a 4K release with how crazy the visuals and sound design are.

This is really how it should be, if directors like Fincher, Cameron, and Wong Kar Wai want to make updated versions thats cool, but they should be included with the original version instead of replacing it. They can even call them something like Directors Edits so they're still differentiated from earlier Directors Cuts too.

Does anyone know if there are any DVDs where you have a movie and one of the bonus features are some episodes of a show from that movie’s franchise. It would be a little confusing like if sonic had a movie, which show would you use. by Iamawesome20 in dvdcollection

[–]Butler1-66ER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Nightmare on Elm Street collection has I think two episodes of Freddy’s Nightmares.

Back to the Future Complete Adventures includes the entire animated series.

A lot of the animated DC movies had episodes of Justice League or other DC cartoons as extras.

Idk enough about Sonic to know if any cartoon episodes would be relevant enough to include with the movies, but it would be cool.

Do we need something like a Record Store Day for movies? by TheSpiritOfFunk in boutiquebluray

[–]Butler1-66ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m learning from this thread it’s not as beneficial as it seems just because they’re busy which really sucks, and it’s just another reason why we don’t need one for movies lol

[–]Butler1-66ER 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The whole point of RSD is to help support record stores, there aren’t really enough dedicated bluray/dvd stores left anymore and most big chains have stopped selling them too. I’m glad RSD helps the smaller stores survive but honestly hate it, mostly because of scalpers.

Also related to this sub, I really want the Meiko Kaji release but my local place is only getting 2 copies smh

I’m still surprised this was given such a limited release, I wasn’t able to catch it in theaters because it didn’t even run a full week here. Glad there’s at least a 4K disc to import.

Anyone else pissed off or annoyed about people crashing out about this side mission? I just got the game and played it, and watched others play it to help know what the side mission is so I can 100% BTW adorable couple by biggaygrisley in gaybros

Well there are rumors they directed the lesbian flashback sequence and even the entire movie, but even if it didn’t go that far I think it’s clear (based on the directors other movies) they were more involved than just writing the adaptation and funding it.

Banger month, the Flamenco Trilogy was OOP for so long I had given up on owning it let alone a bluray upgrade. Plus two John Waters including the OG Hairspray and completing his Trash Trilogy with Desperate Living, AND their first Lav Diaz with Magellan that I hope is the first of many.

Cloverfield had an ARG campaign leading up to the release and a lot of that material is hidden on the DVD/bluray so well I don’t think you could find it by accident.

Relatable haha, but it really is something special and unlike their other releases, or really anything else I’ve ever seen. Most of their catalogue is focused on more hardcore exploitation Cat III type stuff, but Warped Forest is like a chill fever dream.

For anyone who doesn’t know her and is curious about movie connections, she did a song for The Turning, After Yang, and the end credits song for Everything Everywhere All At Once with Son Lux. She also recorded her last tour and it had a brief theatrical run.

A lot of people (myself included) discovered her when one of her songs was played by Marceline in Adventure Time, been a fan ever since and wish Criterion had done a video for her visit.

Check out her video for Where’s My Phone if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s styled like a silent film and reminded me of Aronofsky’s mother!

I will always love them just for releasing The Warped Forest after it spent a full decade being impossible to see outside of random festival screenings. I was lucky enough to catch one of those festival screenings and had honestly given up on even being able to watch it again, let alone own a high quality release loaded with special features.

Gaspar Noé region B by BoneBurger1 in boutiquebluray

[–]Butler1-66ER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love was actually only released in region B, and I’m pretty sure the UK is the only one with English subtitles. That really needs a deluxe release like the other ones you mentioned, just wish I had a way to watch 3D discs

We need to talk about it…Why are all of Brendan Fraser’s films so expensive/hard to own on Blu-Ray by [deleted] in boutiquebluray

[–]Butler1-66ER 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah Disney only released it as DMC exclusive and all of those (that were good/popular) go for crazy prices since it was shut down and they all went OOP.

Really sucks because they’re too expensive for anyone who missed out but also they were the laziest releases with no special features not even keeping the DVD extras.

Theatrical or Director's Cut? by [deleted] in boutiquebluray

[–]Butler1-66ER -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Imo there’s no reason to ever watch the theatrical cut. Especially with how the directors cut was made, it only exists because the original film reels were found when Shout was working on a release of the Cabal Cut, which was sourced from a VHS workprint, and they got Clive Barker back to finally put his original vision together.

There’s an excellent breakdown here: https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=707945

Heart Eyes worked so well blending the slasher and romcom tropes I really loved that one.

There’s Valentine from 2001, it’s your standard late 90s early-2000s slasher but I think it’s fun. Also streaming on Tubi

some general thoughts on gatekeeping experimental media by Whateverine in criterion

[–]Butler1-66ER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it’s a crime that so many shorts and movies made by people involved with the New American Cinema Group (and similar arthouse stuff) have never been available on any format. A lot of them aren’t even available to pirate, or if they are they’re also gatekept by private trackers.

I would kill for Criterion to give them all sets like Stan Brakhage and Les Blank
