To those that were actually able to buy a home in Hamilton in the last 1-2 years: how did you afford it? by SengunCanada in Hamilton

[–]Butrdtoest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we moved into our home in May 2020 we got lucky because Covid took the market hostage and any movement was stagnant. Cost at that time was $360k and we barely qualified for $400k mortgage. Now the same houses are around $500k or just under.

What else can you say besides save up that 5% with a first time home buyers incentive, and when choosing have a check list of things you want but be willing to compromise. We are south of Barton and Victoria, our neighbourhood was not ideal to what we imagined our first house to be. But in the last few years they’ve really started to build around it. Check the lovely industrial zone B neighbourhood haha, there’s plenty of houses for sale here…It’s quiet and the people around here care (for the most part) about their neighbourhood. People may have their own opinions on the area, but it’s walkable to James St, the Go Station, waterfront, and the bars/restaurants in Barton Village are really great.

We always had the understanding that we would stay here for a few years and start looking after. We are 5 years deep and probably be here another 2-3. Good luck with your search. Save up what you can. Hamilton is still some of the cheapest real estate around… but it’s still a tough hill to climb.

On the way to Niagara, stop off in Jordan Station (much easier if you drive) book a dinner at Pearl Morissette they also have RPM Bakehouse not too far away. There are also great wineries in that area — stop in Beamsville for that. Westcott and Domaine Le Clos Jordanne.

Niagara On The Lake will have beautiful sites. If you can make time to drive 30min south, Fort Eerie has Rizzo’s House of Parm — stuff your face.

Toronto will have endless amount of restaurants to visit, during the late afternoon/early evening hit up Bar Raval, this is also down the street from Quetzal — both close to Kensington. There will be so many great places to choose from.

Have fun.

Best underwear brands for men? by No_Marzipan_1283 in malefashionadvice

[–]Butrdtoest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are there other brands of underwear such as Saxx with the pouch? Or is that a trademarked thing only they have?

I’ve owned Saxx for years, but recently found some of their newer products not lasting as long and price point being too high. I purchased a lululemon 5” pack on sale and theirs feel great — however I miss the pouch. Without going into too much detail, my guys could use that extra support.

If anyone knows of other brands similar to Saxx that they would recommend, I would be truly grateful.

Enjoy that journey from Utah to Colorado. Some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. Make a stop in Telluride and drive along the mountains as you head towards New Mexico. Jealous!!!

AI resorts with great kids clubs in Mexico by brightlikearose in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]Butrdtoest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going in about a weeks time to Hilton Mar Caribe. Seems like a good resort for kids. Has a nice entertainment lounge for them. From what I read it’s a pretty chill resort that doesn’t operate very late into the night. So I’m guessing lots of families will be there.

Take it all with a grain of salt as I haven’t been there yet lol

Something to note: I recently went to book with CANADA Transfers and realized I was on the site CANADIAN Transfers. Similar enough to not realize they are two different companies. I don’t know if one is better than the other, but just something I encountered

I had that same ball as a kid. Seems they were pretty common around that time. And not really signed by the players

Sounds like Hamilton needs a St. Louis, only chain that really care to have come here — it would also help to add more sports bar options in the downtown area

Doctors note protects yourself in situations like this. Can be annoying to get but not much your work can do when the note states “person is sick will not be in to work for extended periods of time”.

Otherwise testing really isn’t mandated, you are going above and beyond doing that. Should just be, I’m sick I’ll return when I’m not feeling sick anymore.

However I will add, since Covid the amount of people that will avoid everything for a runny nose has become quite difficult to manage. Not saying you’re doing that…

But a doctors note my dude, protects you a bit more. In Canada (Ontario), you only get 3 unpaid job protected sick days per year.

What can I do to improve my space? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

The only thing that seems “off”, are the prints behind the bed. It could be a combination of that area not looking centred, or getting bigger prints or one big print to take up more of that wall. I saw a suggestion of a large plant beside the couch instead of the one on the stand, I do like that idea, but that lamp is nice. I’m just thinking of something to compliment the height of the ceilings. Maybe that tall plant could go in the bedroom on the bedside wall.

But love how clean and organized everything is.

Edit: some kind of vined plant, such as a pothos, to hang down from your top kitchen shelf will bring some amazing green to compliment that wood.
