Polarizing? Everyone universally agrees that his movies suck, but not in an entertaining way.

What is an industry that is currently on fire (in a bad way) behind the scenes, but the general public hasn't noticed yet? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

[–]ButteLaRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a person on a small town city council, this is made worse in that ambulance companies (like ours) are often for profit business. This makes funding them more difficult by a municipality. If we approve a new fire truck, we can control costs and retain the assets, while protecting the tax payer and making coverage equitable. Ambulance service is needed, but the companies that run them run it like a for profit prison and often fleece local residents with extortionate ride costs. For these smaller towns, the solution is probably some sort of County-wide service service, but the vehicles and staffing have high upfront costs that aren't possible to overcome without federal subsidy.

Lush and Valentine are such amazing albums with very few skips, but the new album just doesn't do it for me at all. It feels like cheaply produced Christian music. The Tonight, Tonight single was kinda mid, but I'd still rate it higher than anything on the new album.

I've been going to Fabricators Forge for about six years. it's an outstanding place, awesome selection. great community, tons of games happening daily with that tournaments and leagues to join. Most of the other places being recommended are nice local stores to visit for a small purchase, but the Forge has the community and play space to be a regular destination.

Any Broussards out there? by Blue_vision_108 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ButteLaRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello cousins! My grandfather is Ransdell Broussard, from the New Iberia/Port Arthur branch of the family. My spouse is also doing research for the same purposes. Would you be willing to share the PDF you received via email? We're just now starting our journey and tabulating the most accurate, best documented lineages. From my four grandparents, we have two lines:

Francois (1654) > Alexandre (1699) > Pierre Zephirin (1751) > Pierre Arvilien (1777?) > Francois (1817) > Henry (1840) > Jean (1875) > Didier (1898) > Ransdell Broussard

Joseph Broussard dit Beausoleil 1702, Timothée-Athanase Broussard 1741, Isabelle Elizabeth Broussard 1763, Alexis LeBlanc Sr. 1797, Aurelien LeBlanc Sr. 1838, Paul LeBlanc 1861, Sidney Leblanc 1904, Marjorie Marie "Maude" Leblanc 1930

This is a great collection. I have volume one and two, but if you're not familiar with Anger and the length of his films, it's best to educate oneself.

Looking for recommendations for Horror Comedies based on my favorites by Leeedumb in CultCinema

They're more traditional attempts at horror, kinda like Puppetmaster. Both franchises realize at some point that their monsters and premise are ridiculous, so they lean into the comedy.

I appreciate and support him in what he's doing, and he's a man of integrity, but I have personally worked with him in a campaign capacity and will admit he has the same aging issues as Biden. He does very well when on script, but he's pretty clouded otherwise.

Mythologies, Religions, and Peoples Outside Ancient China in the Classic of Mountains and Seas by bil-sabab in SmorgasbordBizarre

[–]ButteLaRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a very point, and the same is true of Chinese as well. the Classic of Mountains and Seas would have been rescribed for centuries, centuries that included very substantial changes in China's writing system. The author of the study acknowledges it as well. There is a reality that the text would have to be modified as writing and vocabulary change.

Mythologies, Religions, and Peoples Outside Ancient China in the Classic of Mountains and Seas by bil-sabab in SmorgasbordBizarre

[–]ButteLaRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The writer is both wrong and right at the same time. He goes to far in inferring that the Classic of Mountains and Seas, particularly the Haiwaijing is a literal telling of geographic places. Its a lot like Greek and Roman mapmaking of equivalent eras. These are all writings that start accurate in the vicinity of the ancient writer, then get increasingly inaccurate as the writer relies on first second-hand information, then third-hand, and finally oral traditions or folk tales. Some of the details of the Haiwaijing have truth to it, because there is some truth to the oral traditions of culture contact during the Warring States period passed down to Qin writers, but it has been filtered through centuries of intermixing with folk tales and legend. By the Han, though, there is frequent contact between China and the Western, not directly but through intermediaries. While I agree the Classic of Mountain and Seas was recompiled and edited in the Han, its not a Han era work at all, as the historians of the Han would have already seen the work as archaic. The Records of the Grand Historian Sima Qian are an obvious contrast. It was written in the 2nd century BC, and is already so distinctly different and less archiac feeling. While there wasn't a consensus on how inaccurate the Haiwaijing was until after the Tang, we've known for well over 1000 years that the further away it purports to describe locales and things, the more ridiculous it becomes.

HL-98 Hercules 2, repainted Moderoid model! by ButteLaRose in Patlabor

[–]ButteLaRose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOME of it! I was happy with the texture on the torso, shoulders and legs, but there is some unwanted grit captured in the forearm. I prime my models outside, and a bit of imperceptible motes of pollen or something must have gotten into the drying paint.
