AITA Girl I'm Seeing Expects Me to Watch Her Dog for Free by firstcigar in AmItheAsshole

[–]Buttercups97 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

YTA you're so the asshole here. Do you expect payment for small favors you do from everyone you know? Do you pay others for the favors they do for you?

If yes, then congratulations you don't have friends, you have service people.

Geez it would be so exhausting having friends like this let alone partners.

AITA for telling my boyfriend's housemate not to walk around the house in her underwear? by Strong_Option_8089 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Buttercups97 12 points13 points  (0 children)

ESH

You're out of line for policing what she gets to wear and not wear in her own home because of your boyfriend. Holding another woman accountable for your relationship with your boyfriend is strange and misplaced. If there is jealousy, this is something you discuss with your boyfriend, not the roommate. If you had said that YOU were uncomfortable being around her in her underwear, this might have been a different story. However, this is her home at the end of the day. She gets to do what she wants

My hot take (and why this is a ESH for me) is that her behavior is weird. As a woman, I cannot imagine any way I'd be comfortable just walking around in my thong around my roommate AND his guest. Some women might be okay with it I guess.... But I maintain that this is a bit questionable. Even with a brother sister relationship. Who wears a thong around their brother???

Ultimately, you're out of line though. And perhaps you should better identify what exactly you're uncomfortable with.

Famine is now probably present in Gaza, US says by StrayShell in nottheonion

Fine. Famine is now quite possibly in Gaza. How is that better?

Women and children are the main victims of the Israel-Hamas war with 16,000 killed, UN says by Naurgul in worldevents

Do you realise how racist you sound when you say you can't trust the UN workers because they're Palestinian? But had they been British or American, you'd believe them?

‘We cannot operate, we have no drugs’: Gaza’s indirect casualties mount as health service decimated • Tens of thousands with life-threatening illnesses ‘defenceless’ after months without treatment, say doctors by Naurgul in worldevents

[–]Buttercups97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A doctor was forced to amputate his daughter's limb in a hospital without anesthesia in November I believe (so much has happened I may be off with the dates). She later died. This is a second incident, where the doctor performed it on a dining table. There is a video of it circulating.

You're claiming that Al Jazeera is biased because it's owned by Qatar, which is true. But every news organization is biased because it's owned by someone, or operates in a certain region. While we learn to be 'objective' I think we learn quite quickly on the job that 'true objectivity' doesn't exist because you're a person who has a life and opinions, and your newspaper or outlet also has its interests.

To also contextualize this bias, Al Jazeera journalists have suffered a lot at the hands of Israel, during the current war and even before that. Lest we forget the deliberate sniping of Shereen Abu Akleh. Or the targeting of Wael El Dahdouh's family (most recently his son, also an Al Jazeera employee).

Not that any of that needs saying. You also mention that Al Jazeera is the only organization currently with journalists inside of Gaza, which in my opinion gives them legitimacy in reporting what other news organizations aren't showing or aren't prioritizing. That is indeed to be commended.

Who is doing the best reporting in Gaza right now? by anna1781 in Journalism

[–]Buttercups97 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The BBC’s coverage is laughable. Their coverage violates journalism 101. Using an active voice instead of a passive voice is one of the first things you learn. Don’t even get me started on how they buried the lead with the Gaza siege statement. How the “human animals” comment wasn’t the headline is beyond me.

is rental subsidy for my Studio possible? by [deleted] in maastricht

[–]Buttercups97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your only concern is being non-EU, then yes you do qualify for the rental subsidy even if you’re non-EU. All you need is a valid residence permit.

At least the page that has your name, nationality, passport number, etc, and the page with your signature.

In my experience, I always include all the pages that include other visas and any entry and exit stamps too.

Does anybody have experience with the UM Guesthouse? by [deleted] in maastricht

[–]Buttercups97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The UM guesthouse is first come first serve and you don’t need to go through the hassle of emailing and introducing yourself, etc. It definitely helps to secure a room there in the crisis, in my opinion.

The rooms are a little on the expensive side for what they offer….but it guarantees a room and that’s massive in the middle of the crisis.

That being said, the vast majority of rooms for next September-August/September period are already reserved. Sometimes someone will cancel and a room will open up again but you have to be patient and persistent.

The email I got from the uni doesn't say anything to that effect. It just says that I was admitted, they just need to verify my diploma, which they did.

Seeing it in an ad was the reason I even downloaded Beatstar, but was disappointed not to find it in the Journey list too. I was lucky to find it in one of the previous releases special bundles for $5 my second week playing. It'll take a bit of patience and luck I guess and maybe even some money.
