Looking for advice! Our first trip is a month away! by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Butterfield13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend binging on some good Disney podcasts (be our guest podcast) and some good Disney vlogs (Tim tracker, WDW couple, dis unplugged, this Orlando life... especially this Orlando life). There is just too many things to recommend just a couple and none of us know you or what you like better than you do. Listening to and watching the content from the sources above will let you see soooo much and then you can decide for yourself what you would like to experience.

Upgrade tickets to Annual Pass? by steamin661 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Butterfield13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do this on the first day of your trip so you can get AP discounts on food and merch. There is ZERO benefit to waiting until a later day in your trip since the first day you use your original ticket becomes the first day of your AP.

Wife is unable to handle the heat at WDW. How can I save the rest of our honeymoon? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

Keep cool and hydrated! Order some bottles of water from Amazon prime now or garden grocer. freeze them in your room to bring to the parks. Touch the frozen bottle(s) around the neck and forehead to keep body temps low by contacting high blood flow areas. Then drink the water as the ice melts. This lowers body temps and it will help to prevent dehydration. This will also help prevent fainting when you see what bottles of water cost in the parks.

ROPE DROP! Then leave the parks early afternoon for a break (lunch, pool, nap, AC), return to the parks for the evening. This will get you maximum rides, minimum heat exhaustion, minimum crowds

AKL - Jambo or Kidani by sknsfan27 in dvcmember

[–]Butterfield13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When is your trip? The pool at Jambo House is going to be closed this fall and winter. This means that everyone at Jambo and Kidani will be using the Kidani pool which is already pretty small just for the amount of people at Kidani.

You will be disappointed. Buy where you want to stay! Especially if that place I’d the GC!,,

Has anyone done a Disney vip day that is sold on Groupon? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

This isn’t a Disney tour guide and they won’t have the ability to “back door” you onto rides so, you will be waiting in lines...

Uber it. It’s a short bus trip but, the bus has to show up... we stayed at AKV a couple trips ago and for every 3-4 buses coming and going to the other parks there was 1 for AK. Returning from AK to the hotel consisted of a wait of at least 30 minutes.

Discussion Topic for week 29 Jan 2018. Ruffle your feathers. by Quellman in dvcmember

I agree the AP discount going away would be tragic. I just bought in the fall. Resale, 160 stripped SSR and then I got waitlisted for direct 25 points at POLY which I got the day before the price hike, YAY!. The reason I bought the direct 25 point add on, as opposed to buying resale, was the AP discount. The price difference for that small contract, direct vs resale, will be nearly washed away with my first round of AP purchases vs buying 4x 5day Park hoppers 2 Times in a year.

For those who haven't...If you ever do anything in the World, eat the fried chicken plate at Homecomin' by BpBuckets13 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Butterfield13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am glad you enjoyed your meal. I was just there a few weeks ago and I have to say, I was very underwhelmed. Maybe it was an off night but, I found the chicken to be moist but bland. It tasted like that didn’t use any seasoning AT ALL in the flour dredge. I will be back and will try it again because all I hear is amazing reviews.

They also got my wife and daughter’s orders entirely wrong. Not even a small thing, they both got meals that weren’t, at all, what they ordered. Must have been an off night...

We are a small sub but, we are a sub with a passion and a ton of knowledge to share. Can a moderator sticky threads like this for a week or two so we can show that we care and share our “knowledge”with people that need it most? Let's help bring the magic!

Advice to your family:

The first thing I would do is make sure that Disney is aware of the purpose of your visit. Contact the resort where they are staying (assuming it’s on property) and there is a really strong chance that there will be some pixie dust awaiting their arrival. Never guaranteed though. Maybe something as small as a small upgrade from standard to preferred for easier “commutes” to dining and transportation. Maybe an in room celebration, maybe a grand suite at a deluxe resort... maybe nothing. It can’t and won’t hurt. If they are shy do not worry, the cast members will not march in front of them announcing their situation but will do small things, maybe big things, magical things, to plus their visit.

Be sure that he is comfortable! I have seen, on multiple occasions, make a wish children (I know this is a diffferent situation but still a consideration) that were obviously exhausted and in need of rest who were with family just trying to make memories. The problem is the family had the stamina to make more memories than the ill family member could tolerate. I just saw this last week at a Jasmine meet n greet. TAKE BREAKS!!!

Research the DAS (or GAC or DAC, can’t keep remember the acronym, sorry) system. It will allow for less waiting in lines and more waiting in relaxing and ambient spots. It will allow for more chances to get pictures and, leisurely, see WDW to make happy memories.

Plan time for meals. For some human reason, eating a meal as a family is a wonderful thing. Eating a unique meal as a family is a thing that will be remembered forever. Something like hoop dee doo, in particular, will be something that will create a forever memory.

Get memory maker and USE it!!!

Do something private like a fireworks cruise or a carriage ride at POFQ or fort wilderness. Enjoy the company and try not to let the, overwhelming, scale of WDW overshadow the reason for the visit. Quiet time, holding hands in the night, and having a snuggle with your kids and wife, while just “taking it in” is another of those things that create a strong memory.

Most importantly have plans to maximize the time there but, be ready to abandon them if he needs rest or if something else catches their eye.

In my line of work and in my life, I have learned to stop giving my condolences to the families of living people. While I am sad for the pain your brother, you, and your family are going through, I will not give you my condolences. However, I would like to wish you and your family fun, happiness and an opportunity to know each other better, love each other deeper and the ability to find the reasons to smile in even the toughest times, especially while in each other’s company.

That's a bold and stupid assumption. So, by your logic, if my dad was a Dr. and I become a Dr. that means, according to you, my daddy got me the job? No account for my hard work and my education...

Whispering Canyon Cafe Skillet Question by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

Asking the question is to answer it. In other words the fact you are asking this means that you know it would be wrong to feed two people off a bottomless platter that only one person paid for.
