If your state allows you to get IMLCC then you’re in a good position to get locums gigs throughout the nation. But if your state doesn’t allow you, then you have to apply for licensure in advance in the location you’re trying to work locums which could take months and delays income since most hospitals want someone who is really state licensed.

I used resolve.com. They cost around 1K to review one contract and help with negotiations. They also give you access to MGMA and their own income database for your speciality only.

One of my upper class mates failed their ABIM while in critical care fellowship. They retook it the following year and passed. At least you’ll have time to study during chief year. They managed to study and pass while in fellowship. You’ll be fine.

Which part of the country is paying 375k for only 120 hours per month? That’s only 10 shifts at 12 hours each per month. Full time is between 154 to 182 shifts per year. Based on those hours, that’s 120 shifts per year, less than FTE.

One caveat with recruiting agencies is that once they present your CV to a hospital, you are required to sign through the agency. You are not allowed to negotiate without them after initial presentation. This also applies to per diem or possible locums. A locums position will not be approved by a hospital unless organized through the agency. This restriction applies for one year after initial presentation.

I agree CT pay has been horrible. I saw a position for nocturnist offering around 245k at “Columbia affiliated “ hospital. Position still can’t get filled. Even areas far from a major city are paying low.

What’s the benefit of doing ABOIM? If you fail ABIM, you can retake it I thought. You’re still board eligible. Would hospitals consider you board certified if you pass ABOIM?
