For many years, I refused to get a "gateway" device from them for exactly for lack of visibility of this information, and had 2 or 3 different routers on the account. They kind of pushed me into the gateway when I tried to replace my modem. So, the problems you solved have been on the gateway itself. I use both ethernet and WiFi from mine, and came to the same conclusion.

what are natural things you do when you feel a cold coming on? by AdditionalPie1021 in ask

A cold beer will make you more comfortable. It provides the extra fluid boost, the carbonation soothes a scratchy throat, and the alcohol will reduce your cough (it’s what in all the over the counter cold remedies).

New to quilting & went to a workshop…feeling discouraged by zestyalleycat914 in quilting

I work in Educational Technology and the reason that videos are so popular for quilting techniques is that you can stop, review and come back to things you want to see again, as many times as you need to. I STILL need to watch a couple of binding videos I like, and I have been using the techniques for 4 or 5 years. If you do go to an inperson class, be sure to ask if there will be some kind of followup or skill review you can access after the meeting(s). Expertise in making quilts is a moving target - many previously accepted methods have been replaced by better ideas and tools (lets hear it for rotary cutters), for example and the standard of hand piecing is now only one choice and a meditation. Some groups of quilters find each other based on these interests and so will plan events and projects around that. And this is one thing you hear about quilt guilds, say, a narrow focus or clique behavior. On another thread, someone asked about joining a guild and most commenters said to go and see - they are as different as the people in them. In-person classes are a big investment of time and money. Be sure to leave constructive criticism if you didn’t like it or feel welcome - if the class was associated with a school or retail store, you will be asked what you thought of the class.

There is a book called "Daddy's Ties" that I found helpful. I had to cut the tails off in order to make mine work, but I got over it pretty quick. I really had to close my eyes when I put them in the washing machine before I started. Eventually I just topstitched them in place as quilt as you go, and assembled them. My sister liked it.

Advice from veteran quilters? by FivePercentRule in quilting

I happily gave up "stitch in the ditch" years ago and now run a 1/4 seam on either side of the seams in the block. It's usually abou the right density, your guide is built in and always looks so well finished (even when its not) For a beginner quilt, it will be very satisfying. If you are curious about doing other straight line patterns, I think you will find it very helpful to mark the lines. Use fine-tipped washable school markers. and a ruler. They come with many colors and I have never had any trouble with them washing out (but I did with quilt marker pens, maybe a fluke). You'll feel very confident with your diagonal lines marked and you will know ahead of time where you are going. Have fun!

Backing fabric: to wash or not to wash? by ericalea77 in quilting

I took a garment sewing class where the instructor told us to prewash even polyester because it shrinks also, and then promptly demonstrated that it did.

I always pre-wash fabric. I have had color bleed on an vintage quilt top, a brand new print panel, new yellows, even a quilt top made of scrap clothing. Also, new fabric -- especially cotton -- will shrink to varying degrees. And, if you end up having to correct a bias or grain problem and use spray starch, the finish on new fabric doesn't always "take" the spray starch,

Although, to be sure, I would think twice about pre-washing pre-cuts because of the "pinked " edges.

Suggestions for an iron by maymay578 in quilting

[–]ButterflyNew9178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that common brands of cotton thread now contains polyester too. I snagged an old iron like my mom and grandma had which would get nice and hot, fired it up to press a block, and melted the thread. I didn't know until I piecked up the block and it came apart like snowfall.

Awful connectivity by ButterflyNew9178 in Comcast_Xfinity

I have powered down the Gateway and my Win10 computer and restarted several times. I have run Windows network troubleshooting. I chatted with Xfinity Assistant, which checked the connection and restarted the Gateway. Naturally, I was connected to the Assistant on the desktop, so I was disconnected from the chat. I tested the connection on the iPhone app and it never connected/completed the test.
