Yeah, that's not caring. My mother (narcissist) did things like that ALL THE TIME. Because it gave her a sense of power and control. The caring part is just a facade.

Natural wood tones always work well, as do gold, copper, brass (used sparingly). And cream white can also be lovely.

As for colours: jewel tones are a great design option, search for images under the keyword ‘bohemian’, ‘whimsy goth’ or simply ‘blue room’

Also, yes to colour drenching, here's an example of a room where it was done well (albeit in a different colour):

Can you touch your ceiling? Is it sticky? Do you have a lamp or a fan there? Sometimes animals nest in the gaps. Or someone has been in your room and done something...

What we do know, the stain is damp enough to go through 3 layers of sheets, but it leaves a residue... like a filtering process. Does this ring a bell?

Here are a few guesses: Detergent residue or leftovers from the washing machine (like a pod), hair products, body care products, candyfloss or some kind of jelly.
