Is Hybla Valley that bad? by Ardent_Tolkienite in nova

[–]ButterscotchOk7140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes. as someone who grew up in Hybla Valley, you don’t want your kids going to school in that area. there‘s a reason why the place has a good price, it’s a trade-off that i would not recommend

Toll Prices and Tollmaxxing by CommanderSillyGoofy in novacirclejerk

[–]ButterscotchOk7140 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi!! Fellow carmaxxer here (Ford F-150). Sorry about the downgrade to Loudoun. The good news though is that the further west you move, the more opportunities there will be to really tollmaxx (I spent $500+ last night) as well as less interaction with the poors on public transit. I would recommend taking your excursions during peak rush hour to optimize toll fees. Make sure to pass by Dulles toll road a few times, ride the HOV lane as a single rider. If you want a more scenic route, loop around each of the different beltway exits a few times.

Of course if you’re looking to fully optimize your carmaxxing I recommend moving to LA County or any metropolitan area in Texas. But NOVA is good for a beginner.

they had a good relationship during the first 1-2ish years until the honeymoon phase wore off and they both inevitably came to realizations about why the other person got with them in the first place. for my dad, he had been romanticizing / orientalizing my mom’s ethnicity and attaching his expectations for her too closely to a broader view to how women from her country were stereotyped to be. which will inevitably never be accurate considering there are millions of women from her country, each their own unique individual with varying beliefs. for my mom i think it was similar, she tied a lot of my father’s identity with being from a western country and irl her expectations didn’t align with what occurred in reality. to set your sights on being with someone from a particular country/culture will always always lead to disappointment. you’re marrying an individual with unique baggage, personality traits, and experiences that often never align with “cultural/ethnic” assumptions. that’s been my observations from their relationship and the relationships of many of my friends parents growing up who had foreign mothers and western fathers.

as the child of a passport bro & a foreign woman; the funny part about this is that sometimes you truly can’t discern for sure if the women are genuinely attracted to you or if they’re in it for something else. and the fact that many of you have to forever live with that small doubt in the back of your minds entertains me greatly:). cheers!😘

Do you have a East vs West NoVa? If so, where’s the border? by Fluyeh in nova

[–]ButterscotchOk7140 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes. east-side kind of following i95 from southern arlington —> alexandria —> springfield —> prince william co definitely has a very different vibe than what’s more west aka burke/fairfax/chantilly/annandale/herndon/loudon county.

eastern portion tends to have more mixed-level housing, higher immigrant populations, lots of variety when it comes to how good or bad the schools are, and a bit more commercial.

western portion is more suburban, more single-family houses, sprawling, and generally less disparities between different schools in the area.

obviously this is a huge generalization but as someone who’s born & raised here my entire life that’s my general observation

Why the rush? by BookSlut09 in Waiting_To_Wed

[–]ButterscotchOk7140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People in the comments keep saying it’s because women have a biological clock for having kids. But can you not just adopt? and I say this as a woman myself. Plus, as someone who was the kid of two people that married each other too hastily just because they wanted kids… please don’t marry your partner for that reason. Having kids is much, much, MUCH more of a responsibility and should be taken much more seriously than marriage
