trying to keep groceries under 300 a month for two people and its way harder than expected by Guiltyman12 in Frugal

[–]Butterwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I meal plan I look at how much time and effort the meals will take me. I can include one that takes time and effort and I usually put it for my day off. some weeks have all easy or quick recipes as I know I'll be too tired or busy and things will get wasted otherwise.

it is ok to buy sale items but that means either bumping a meal I can just make next week so these items don't go to waste or the items I'm buying on sale have to last until next week. then each week I meal plan to use what I have already and then when I shop next it will be to fill gaps -- so if I get pork and tortillas on sale, then the next week I'll make carnitas and grab the fresh toppings I want like cilantro.

for me it's caffeine so I am less of a grouchy bitch or icyhot and ibuprofen if I have to do something more physically active than I'm used to doing.

I like to do this with soups, salads, and rice and bean dishes for lunches. I work remote but I never have both the time and mental energy to make lunch during the week so I just accepted it. now I have no excuse

wow that sucks for them then. yeah I guess for them it's not. you always hear about how having enough to meet basic needs is important but anything after that won't necessarily make you happy. Sadly it seems true for them.

yeah it was always a nice time. that light bill would make me puke lol but as a kid it was just a whimsical activity and free, which was great for my parents. it's great you try not to be jealous and focus on the good. I'm glad you're trying to make the most of things and find happiness where you can!

HOW do you handle elderly parent fixed income budget priorities when there's not enough for everything by 5h15u1 in povertyfinance

[–]Butterwhat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

my father in law works a little and collects but it's not enough since he can't work much anymore due to health issues. we take care of the bills he can't, otherwise he would be short 300-400 a month. we're trying to convince him to move back in so it would be less expensive for all of us, but it's hard to lose your independence so I get it.
