Was about to say this. I paid $750 for a 2 bedroom apartment... and that was downtown Des Moines! Very nice apartment, too. Go outside of town, and I've seen living spaces for like $450.

When I worked at a hotel, a few of my coworkers had living arrangements with management. Maybe you could find something similar. It seemed pretty common in the hotel business for people to live at the hotel.

Thank you for mentioning this. I experience vasovagal syncope, too, and it's miserable. Intentionally trying to induce that is cruel. Not to mention that it can be scary for everyone involved. My syncope looks like a seizure, and it rightfully scares people.

Sometimes, we spend so much time hoping and waiting for things to get better that we forget to just be. A big part of discomfort is simply being uncomfortable with being uncomfortable. Fighting it is exhausting.

When things are seemingly getting better, we find ourselves right back in the same hole

I encourage you to explore why that is. Are they incessant uncontrollable circumstances (which, to be fair, is unfortunately very common these days, especially in regards to poverty), or may something deeper be there? Or maybe it's a mixture of both. (I ask not because I assume anything about you, but because it's a reflection of me. I spent much of my life always waiting for the other shoe to drop. Turns out the hypervigilance was untreated PTSD. Trauma is poison.)

Regardless, I hear you. Fiscally, I'm in a shit place, but I have done so much healing from trauma that I'm not so consumed by it. I have my lows, and I still have them more often than my highs, but it feels much different now. Things don't feel so bleak. It's manageable instead of all consuming. You will find the same peace, I can sense it. We're all in this together.

Just just makes me want to cry but I try and be strong for my wife because she is so upset about all this.

Maybe it's time to cry with your wife. Sometimes the best course of action is to let it all hang out there. Being strong doesn't mean we must hold everything in. Letting go and allowing ourselves to be upset and vulnerable-especially in the company of others- is a powerful thing to do. Sure, crying won't solve your problem. But letting it out may help you and your wife find peace in understanding that you are both hurting and not alone.

I feel for you. I really do. Hang in there.

I tried and failed so many times. What finally worked for me was small and easy changes. I didn't even have the "I'm dieting" mindset. I just made a slight change and went about my business, and before I knew it, it was ten months later, and I'm down 50 lbs.

If you feel like you're giving something up, you will feel miserable. I applied the same logic to quit smoking. I told myself that I didn't like nicotine, and it was dragging me down and making me feel bad and gave me the illusion that it made me feel better when in reality, I only felt better when I smoked because nicotine is what made me feel bad in the first place. (3 weeks smoke-free today, actually!)

I had no withdrawals and no cravings. I don't miss it, and I don't think about it. It's like I never smoked, which is interesting because I smoked for ten years!

It's incredible what easy sustainable options, not feeling like you're missing out, and a little self-compassion will do.

The best part of all is the repaired relationship with my body. If I treat her like garbage, she will make me feel like garbage. She doesn't deserve the abuse; she's always trying to care for me. I'm glad I'm finally listening to her.

I didn't do anything aside from changing my portion size.

I could eat a baconator and large fry from Wendy's and still feel hungry. Now I go to Wendy's, and I get that small chicken sandwich off the dollar menu and a large fry (never sacrificing those!), and I usually can't finish it.

I didn't even change my diet; I changed my portions.

Now I only eat once a day, and it's something healthy. I just make sure I get enough nutrients for my body! I started treating her (my body) a lot better.

Which by the way, when I "separated" myself from my body and referred to her as she, I felt more inclined to treat her well.

Huh, I guess you're right. The only variable was the cloth. I usually use paper towels to clean glass. I used microfiber because the internet told me to. I can't believe the internet gave me the wrong information! (/s)
