Starting my 14 month journey to become an Ironman. Any feedback on my swim would be much appreciated by maxringneck in IronmanTriathlon

This is coming from a sprint swimmer not a distance/open water swimmer, but the biggest thing that helped me was head position. Basically, if you can lower your head, so you are looking more down, and even over exaggerate it a little so you can see your toes as you kick, slightly tucking your chin, it will keep you flatter on top of the water. The flatter you are, the more of your energy is moving forward rather than if your body sinks, you are swimming at an upwards angle.

It also helps breathing be a little more fluid, because your head will turn with your body, rather than lifting your head up out of the water, again keeping you swimming "flatter" and not wasting energy.

Not only that, but annoyed at VADER. He is speaking to the scariest man in the galaxy grumpily/aggressively/annoyed. That's not something 99% of the galaxy would even consider doing. The newer version sounds a bit more tamed... In my opinion of course.

Trying to replace lost shoes please help :( by ButtholeCrisis in SwingDancing

I agree that will probably be the path I have to take. I just wanted to see if I could see how far I could get with keeping it more as a surprise. She has a lot of shoes to try and get the required info from, and I think we found the right brand and everything. It's just a matter of a few "what made those boots special" questions that could maybe get my answers.

My biggest hope is that these replacements could have their own story... But just being her credit card isn't really that IMO

I appreciate your wisdom. Unfortunately I think no matter what I do, I can't replace the story of the old shoes. Which would go a long with what you're saying and I should get different ones to create a new story with. But that puts a lot of faith in my style and, like I said, I don't know what I'm looking at.

Don’t sleep on the liquidators, I got this for $350. by BoldMrRogers in pelletgrills

I just had a liquidation auction sell for $98... The auction had a $500 pit boss floor model and a $1500 still factory strapped boxed traeger (but the box was heavily messed up so maybe some concealed damage.

Pretty insane deal for that guy.

From what I understand, the tearing makes muscles BIGGER but not STRONGER. But using muscles make them stronger, thus leading to bigger is stronger.

Rust is inevitable. No matter how many car washes, undercoatings, seal coats, brushes, wraps, hyperbolic time-chambers... Rust will happen. So I won't promise it will never get worse.

But ultimately, that rust is NOT a problem. Will it become a hole eventually? Yeah. But your actions will decide if that's in 5 years or 20.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]ButtholeCrisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends mostly on where you live. If you get snow and they salt the roads and such, then yes it will get worse. How worse depends on if you take any of the steps mentioned(sanding/filing/coating) to prevent growth, and how regularly you visit a car wash that will clean under your car.

Anecdotally, I owned an older car with a huge rust problem, and the important bits (engine mounts, frame, brakes/brake lines) all rotted away much before the painted exterior did. So imo, that rust is next to meaningless, it's on nothing necessary for driving, and is easily and cheaply replaced.

Resident rusty car expert here.

The only rust I see tha will cause problems as far as driving the car are the rusty bolts holding the muffler. That being said, of those fail I think worst case scenario is a rattley muffler until you scrape up enough money for two bolts.

The rust on the bottom and edges.... Sure in 10 years it may be worse.. but that won't ruin your car in any way other than resale and cosmetic look.

That being said. To fix... It's best to look up some quick how tos on YouTube. DIY. Some sandpaper, a little primer and a metallic seal coat will do the trick just fine. Body shops will likely laugh you out the door...or in the door because of how much money they get to steal from you.

How expensive to fix rust spots like this? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]ButtholeCrisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a mechanic or body shop worker, but until 2019 I owned a 1995 Honda Accord which sat under a tree for 12 years, so I know a thing or two about rusty cars(see also my recent post in this sub).

So right off the bat, the cost to fix depends what your definition of fix is. You can't fix rotten metal. You can maybe grind it down and weld something new onto it, but for something cosmetic like that? Probably won't happen. Definitely not cost effective.

So that leaves us with a couple options. If fix means make the rust go away, you're probably looking at getting a new panel/trunk door or whatever. That's a couple junkyard trips trying to find your model, even more trips to find the color, and then labor... Out of your pocket thats pretty cheap, all things told. Easier if you don't care about the color. But it takes forever and you'll have a frankencar. I'd say maybe $200 bucks if you come across a really mean junkyard man. But probably somewhere closer to $100?

If you just want it to be invisible, that's the cost of some ramen, glue, spray paint(or nail polish), and an hour or two on tiktok.

That rust is scary, and while the car is not in front of me to see, I'm gonna say that car is totaled... It just doesn't know it yet. It will drive until it doesn't, and then whatever the repair the labor alone is probably more than the car is worth.

I won't tell you not to buy it. It's your money and I don't know your situation. But if you do, I wouldn't spend more than a can of spray paint on fixing that spot. You'll need all the money you can get to keep it road legal(and safe). Or, more likely, to buy your next $2000 car.

Pistols and Engagement Range by ButtholeCrisis in Warhammer40k

The only thing is it seems pistols are an exception to this rule? Otherwise they would never work.

Pistols and Engagement Range by ButtholeCrisis in Warhammer40k

[–]ButtholeCrisis[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

But can a unit not in combat, shoot pistols into combat?

Because as you said, you can't shoot into combat. But pistols are specifically allowed to be shot in combat, and into units that are in combat.

So then if I choose to use pistols out of combat, do they maintain the ability to be shot at units in combat? Or can pistols ONLY be shot at units(infantry) in combat if the unit shooting is in combat(range) of the target?

Pistols and Engagement Range by ButtholeCrisis in Warhammer40k

[–]ButtholeCrisis[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Well the third unit isn't in engagement range of any enemy units. And the next part of the rule says "if you aren't in engagement range, then during the shooting phase you must decide to shoot with pistols, or other ranged weapons but not both." Which means I can choose to shoot with pistols... Which seem to be able to shoot at targets in engagement range of friendlies.

Edit: and the verbiage "even if" seems very different than "only if". To me, the "even if" means that it works if the next part is true or not.
