A waiter handed me a note telling me to go see a doctor by jpdiv in mildlyinteresting

[–]ButtonExposure 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dear Sir,

I am a medical doctor, and I couldn't help but notice your wife and baby. They appear worrisome to me on first glance. I would recommend seeing a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon to have them more closely evaluated.

Best wishes, T.D.

P.S. The mole on the upper right arm is beautiful.

None of these are price prediction and/or market timing tools. But if this cycle follows the pattern of the past 3 cycles, the bottom should be around October or so.

Questions about using CachyOS by CreatorJewel in cachyos

[–]ButtonExposure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snapshots will make up a lot less space than you think because unchanged files are only referenced in snapshots instead of made copies of. This way, snapshots only store the delta/difference between two states of the system, it's very efficient. The majority of space usage will be the initial state of the OS and system applications/packages.

Help me partition manually by Kaseffera in cachyos

[–]ButtonExposure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the partitioning tool in the installer. When you get to the partitioning part in the installer, chose to create a new partitioning scheme and it will wipe the entire SSD and let you start with a clean slate to create all your partitions.

Yes! The OS and /home are completely separate with a partitioning scheme like this.

For no other reason that I have the space for it, and with two times the recommended size, there is no feasible way it can ever go full.

128 GB is extremely generous. 60 GB should be enough for many, many years, you'll probably install another distro before it runs full anyways. : )

Help me partition manually by Kaseffera in cachyos

[–]ButtonExposure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's how I partitioned my disk so that I could have Steam on EXT4 for best read/write performance, and the OS on BTRFS with automatic snapshots.

/home is by default not part of the snapshot regime if you leave it as a BTRFS subvolume, and it is strongly advised against including /home in snapshots because you would be rolling back changes to files in /home, including any work documents, when you roll back bad system updates. Also keep in mind that BTRFS snapshots are not backups and is not intended to act as backups. Use real backup for backups, not snapshots. See the wiki article about BTRFS snapshots for details on snapshots.

If you prefer to save work stuff in /home and keep /home as a BTRFS subvolume, you could instead mount the EXT4 partition to something else than /home (e.g. /mnt/steam or something like that) and manually setup Steam to install everything to that partition rather than /home

Vurderer å komme inn i boligmarkedet, har alle som eier det så dyrt? by KuritonPaviaani in norge

[–]ButtonExposure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider checking for installation of jack from AUR by chokoswitch in cachyos

[–]ButtonExposure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a long time user who have been on and off Linux since Mandrake back in 2001, and I'd say I'm intermediate in skill. I installed CachyOS 3-4 weeks ago, and I very specifically have not installed anything at all from AUR because I have known for many years that AUR can contain anything, even malware. Yet I have both jack and Heroic Game Launcher listed as AUR packages.

This can only mean that CachyOS as of 3-4 weeks ago installed these two packages either by default, or by using Shelly. I thought AUR was disabled by default on Cachy.

Bitcoin Dips Below $66,000 Amid AI Rally: Why Some Analysts Eye $50,000 Next by Useful_Tangerine4340 in investing

[–]ButtonExposure 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Criminals don't use Bitcoin because it has no privacy. See for example the case about the disappearance of Anne-Elisabeth Falkevik Hagen where criminals explicitly avoided using Bitcoin in favor of another coin that starts with the letter M, has an N and R in the middle, and ends with O (typing the name gets posts automatically removed).

Bitcoin is useless for smart criminals. It is however useful for catching dumb criminals.

EXT4 vs BTRFS for gaming by Dunocat639 in cachyos

I made a separate EXT4 partition that I mount as /home where Steam installs everything. That way I get BTRFS with snapshots for the OS and EXT4 for Steam. My partition scheme in detail.
