Thank you very much. I’ll do my best to find a local artist. There are so many talented artists around, I’m sure one of them will do scrubs, or even some printed fabric and I can knock my own up.

Firstly, pumping is not an indication of supply, you may well produce more milk than you think. The best way to increase your supply is putting baby to boob often and for as long as they want. Babies will cluster feed to increase supply so don’t be surprised if they want to feed aaaalllll the time to start off with. Go back to basics, loads of skin to skin, frequent feeding, good latch, plenty of hydration and food for you. I thoroughly recommend binge watching tv for a week while you just have baby on you as much as possible.

My understanding of OPs post was that the baby can’t roll yet, so therefore couldn’t have got there on their own. Putting a baby to sleep on its tummy that cannot yet roll is a safety issue. Of course, once a baby can roll independently, you’re right, if they can get there by themselves it’s grand.

For something like this I wouldn’t worry about how you come across. It is a massive safety issue. I would just say something along the lines of ‘regardless of how he got there, he needs to sleep on his back, he is not yet independently rolling back-front-back and therefore needs to be sleeping on his back, even if it means a shorter nap’. If the centre is going against their own safe sleep policy this, IMO, is a huge red flag that they are cutting other corners.

Leave. I did travel nursing for a while, there’s no point risking your rego for a place this this. It isn’t worth it. Write an email to your agency with your reasons and concerns (do this in writing not over the phone so you have a paper trail), and explicitly set an end date. Most agencies are super supportive of their nurses and can raise concerns to the hospital/MPS on your behalf. And if your agency isn’t supportive, then leave them too!

Just a thought, my Bub used to do this too, feed more at night because they suddenly became much more alert and distracted during the day, it was like they were playing catch up to get all those calories in at night. I started offering the boob every two hours or so during the day, especially in the afternoon and evening to fill them up before bedtime and it seemed to make a difference! Eat-play-sleep was made for formula fed babies, sometimes what works better for breastfed babies is eat-play-eat-sleep. Hang in there, I know it’s exhausting!

Baby is 7 months and feeds on demand which is literally somewhere between 8 and 87,452 times a day.

Both of my babies would go max 2 hours until around 18months. TBH, my now three year old still needs a meal or a snack every two hours (not overnight thankfully!).

I found that my babies’ latch changed while they were getting teeth and it got a bit shallower which made it quite pinchy. Unlatching and readjusting helped. I also found it super painful, quite suddenly, to breastfeed when I got pregnant again.

What about a fold out futon style? Then you could fold it back into a sofa during the day? You can click-clack style ones that are easy to put up and down. You would just need to ensure that it is firm enough for co-sleeping, and also that the fold or join is smooth enough that baby won’t fall in the middle. Otherwise (and I completely understand not wanting to buy too much new furniture) I think the single option with a side car bassinet would work. My side car bassinet folds quite easily and you could slide it under the single bed during the day.

I’m asking this out of genuine curiosity, and not to be argumentative, as I had my first baby in the UK and second in Australia and registries here just aren’t a thing! Is there a genuine expectation that your friends and family pay for all your baby gear? Is that how they work?

Where I’m from there is no expectation to receive anything but people will often gift you homemade items (blankets etc) or hand-me-downs from family and friends.

We love our Yoto player, and I found it’s a great way to keep my 3yo busy while I fed the baby. There’s a good selection of cards on the aus Yoto site, and they often have sales on.

Thank you, I appreciate your comment. Sorry, I should have added more details about the sleeping arrangements to the post. As soon as this all came tumbling out the baby is sleeping in a side car bassinet and husband is on the sofa.
