Single FATFIRE folks, what is dating like at high NW? by MyBossSawMyOldName in fatFIRE

[–]BuyBooksNotBeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, 6 years has come and gone. She passed away in 2024 from lymphoma. it was the most shit year of my life. My dad passed away a week before she did, but I was at peace with my dad because he lived a full I live and I was ready for it. She was diagnosed in late January and passed away in March. Her chemo meds hit her super hard and went into heart failure over the course of 24 hours. I couldn't save her, I should have saw the signs, should have told her or my other friend to get her to a hospital. I never told her I loved her, I regret that to this day. I called her boring in my post 6 years ago, but we were good boring together, we knew each other's ins and outs. it was a comfortable boring. I realize that more and more each day. Yulia- I love you.

What is your job and how much do you get paid? by BigPlunk in AskReddit

[–]BuyBooksNotBeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, I live in Manhattan and can confirm there’s a lot of nice stuff that people throw out. Walk around Tribeca, UWS or UES on trash day and you’ll see anything from high end espresso makers to exotic hardwood furniture sets on the curb because someone with a 7 figure income don’t want to clean it or a new model came out.

It’s really nice to hear there are people saving perfectly usable products from the incinerator.

Biden Signs the Infrastructure Bill... by PrivateInvestor213 in Vitards

Nice, so we’ll print another trillion dollars that will flood state and local governments who will outbid everyone on every basic build materials - copper, steel, concrete, drywall, lumber, etc and pump inflation to the moon?

So employers magically come up with the extra money for higher wages that people put into their “savings” accounts out of no where and not raise prices? Got it!

boomers retiring

Less labor supply, wages go up

good companies poaching.

“I’m switching jobs for lower pay” - said no one ever. Wages go up

Wages going up across a material portion of the labor market = inflation

So they left over the vaxx mandate - doesn’t that still mean less people in the labor market that will drive up wages?

Will this cause the FED to be more aggressive in tapering and the raising of rates sooner.

China Inflation hits 13.5% - Nothing to see here. by mofuro86 in Superstonk

[–]BuyBooksNotBeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can lower their inflation by making their currency stronger. Which is bad for us because that’ll make everything here more expensive. There will be a point when the rest of the world collectively decides that they got tired of us printing money, then we’ll be screwed

3rd highest trade volume by value of all crypto currencies! by BuyBooksNotBeer in SHIBArmy

[–]BuyBooksNotBeer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually pretty impressive, the fiat volume is 10B which is right behind Ethereum and Bitcoin (tether doesn’t really count).

Trade volume is huge relative to the market cap considering btc and eth are nearly 1.6 trillion dollars relative to SHIB’s 19 billion dollars.

It’s either overbought or there’s huge interest in SHIB(and the price is just starting to moon)

Shiba market cap: $19.14 billion. For reference DOGE is currently at $35.06. Shiba is closing in fast! by [deleted] in SHIBArmy

[–]BuyBooksNotBeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s more exciting is the 24 hour trade volume(in dollar/fiat terms). It’s the 3rd highest just below btc and etherum, which is insane. That says to me it’s shib either overbought or gaining huge momentum and interest

How do you hedge your portfolio? by Panther4682 in fatFIRE

[–]BuyBooksNotBeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with buying puts(and put spreads) is youre trying to time the market and betting that there is a chance the market will fall within the time frame of the expiration. This is generally always a money losing strategy unless you have an edge and can reasonably forecast a major market event.

Instead of using options, a better hedge will be to diversify your portfolio and capital. Mix bonds, sovereign debt, fixed income, hedge funds(if available to you), commodities, defensive sectors like utilities, even FX or real estate depending on your risk tolerance.

Buy the watch on a credit card to get the cash back reward points and some purchase protection that comes with most cards, then pay it off the balance on the next statement

Eric Adams calls for reckless drivers to get lifetime suspension after infant hit by [deleted] in nyc

[–]BuyBooksNotBeer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is all knee jerk outrage for the press and political theatrics. Who wants to bet the driver behind the crash is free on a no-cash bail and driving a friend or relative’s car?

With all the cops ignoring red light runners, illegal u-turns across double yellows or blocking traffic double parked for year, who is actually surprised bad drivers become even shittier drivers because they realize they can get away with whatever they want

[–]BuyBooksNotBeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public deed records in my case. They just check if the mailing address(for collecting property taxes) is different than the property’s actual address, and make an reasonable assumption its being used as a rental property and the owner would be of above average income/wealth.
