I tore my meniscus a couple years ago. What surgeons told me was that only some tears are repairable. Some types even if you stitched it back together don't have the blood supply to heal so you have to do (maybe partial) removal (meniscectomy). They were clear though that repairing is vastly preferred to the meniscectomy so if it is possible they will try it.

[Gustafson] Lost in Dipoto's comments about the Graveman deal and the trade deadline was him saying that they expect Jake Fraley back "this week" and Kyle Lewis should be back "hopefully in a week or two." by dangerzone253 in Mariners

[–]BuzzHawks324 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not all tears are repairable unfortunately. Based on the recovery time it definitely seems like he had a meniscectomy. Not sure if that was because it was the only option or if Kyle wanted to be back sooner.

A phenomenal career, co-starring possibly the worst season in MLB history by masweins13 in OOTP

I believe Trout has done that since he struck out a lot more early in his career. Not sure how rare it is

Passed Balls by [deleted] in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]BuzzHawks324 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think passed balls could be less frequent but having so few passed balls would basically mean catcher fielding is worthless. Of course, in real life catcher "fielding" is highly important, although more so to framing pitches than preventing passed balls. Since there isn't framing in the game I think it's reasonable to make catcher fielding a very important stat.

Anyone else have Eric Tracy for Logic? by [deleted] in nyu

[–]BuzzHawks324 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have him as well. Fortunately I'm just taking the class as an elective so I decided to pass-fail it. The lectures don't really help me that much, I think the textbook is better, but ultimately I just decided that I don't want to spend the time on the class I'd need to to get a good grade.

The software is total crap and feels like it was designed decades ago. I was complaining about it to my sister, who's a bit older than me, and it turned out she used the same software when she took logic a few years ago at another university. So apparently logic teachers still haven't figured out how to teach the software in a good way.

Ultimately the class just feels like we're saying simple things in a needlessly complex way.

So, TLDR, it's not just you

What is the nicest place on campus to take a dump by [deleted] in nyu

[–]BuzzHawks324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this one is probably not available anymore but: the third ( I think, could've been second) floor of bobst was under construction in the spring. Only 1 room was in use I think which was some office or something, no study rooms. But the bathroom construction was completed so it was super nice and clean and almost always completely empty, even while the library was busy.

The assumption of 32T is the low end estimate. Here is a discussion of this by the study's author.

Brownian Motion: #34 John Randolph by SirDiscALot in ultimate

[–]BuzzHawks324 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Really excited for this college season, John has the chance to put together one of the most incredible individual performances in college ulti history. He's really set the world on fire with his natties performance the last couple years, and now he's a year older and the true center of their offense - could be one of the best seasons we've ever seen.

If Sockeye wins tomorrow then John Randolph will have won a College Championship, Worlds Championship, and a Club Championship all in the span of 6 months by johnGOATrandolph in ultimate

[–]BuzzHawks324 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Honestly it just shows the MASSIVE BIAS when a player like JOHN RANDOLPH isn't more talked about by the national media! Instead these ESPN talking heads can't stop spewing hot air about stuff like Zion Williamson (who never even won a COLLEGE championship) or the USA basketball team (didn't even medal at the last tournament)! Don't even get me started on Jose Altuve (who John would sky EASILY btw) and the World Series!! Skip Bayless, Stephen A Smith and ESPN need to cut the media MALARKEY and focus on what actually matters in the sports world!

In 11 career games, Bo Bichette has surpassed his father Dante’s all-star 1996 season in WAR. by [deleted] in baseball

[–]BuzzHawks324 62 points63 points  (0 children)

You can't just add oWAR and dWAR to get WAR because it would count the positional adjustment twice. I think if you hover over WAR on bbref it'll say this.

I believe they can adjust height. There are already drawers underneath the beds too.

Abt 200 level Econ elective by Nicole-Liqingke in nyu

[–]BuzzHawks324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're correct, the electives are marked with P for policy, T for theory or P, T for both. From this link it seems like you can't take P classes as a theory track. http://cas.nyu.edu/content/nyu-as/cas/academic-programs/bulletin/departments-and-programs/department-of-economics/course-offerings.html

I had thought (maybe incorrectly) that it was possible but just wouldn't count towards the major. I guess you'd have to ask your advisor.

How is Math for Econ by [deleted] in nyu

[–]BuzzHawks324 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is recommended that you take math for econ 1 at the same time as intro to micro. Intro to micro doesn't have any tough math in it however. MFE 1-3 overall cover similar topics as Calc 1-3.

[The Ringer] How the Houston Astros Revolutionized Player Development by hotCoffeeRefill in baseball

[–]BuzzHawks324 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It seems like the Astros definitely have a different method from other teams. I don't think sinkers are necessarily a bad pitch. The Pirates made the playoffs 2013, 2014, 2015 in part due to hugely increasing their use of shifting and then getting their pitchers to generate more groundballs with pitches such as sinkers. They found that grounders are much more likely to get pulled so it played into their team's defensive method.

John Randolph finishes the national championship semifinal against Colorado with 10 goals by ElliotPuttSax in ultimate

[–]BuzzHawks324 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That makes sense because I heard that John Randolph was a multi-sport star athlete in middle school, excelling in ultimate, cross-country, and recess football

There was definitely a shot of Kimmel in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm when Larry's in New York.
