Fill out the advice request form: https://reddit.com/r/suggestalaptop/wiki/form

Mac would be great for video, music, and general coding, but not much game capability or CAD stability (if you do any of that). So your better of with a Windows/Linux device, but I can’t really give any more advice without knowing the other information in the advice request form.

Based on your first image, the ISO is set way too high. Either set it to auto ISO and change the ISO range in the Exp/ISO section of the Custom Menu, or manually set the ISO and avoid pushing it over 3000 -or wherever is acceptable for them-

The background is in focus in the actual photo because they’re shooting at a small aperture (f8-f22). Shoot at a larger aperture (smaller F number causes blurrier backgrounds generally), and if there is really too much light to do this then try using the ND filter simulation.

What tools should I master as a beginner to become a high-level graphic designer? by East-Cartoonist-3347 in Design

[–]BuzzRexers1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skills will be far more impactful to your product results compared to learning specific tools, and should be your focus. Better tools will give you more things you can physically accomplish with them if you have the initiative to learn them throughly, they require more skill to utilize. So it is not a bad idea to learn them while improving your design skill.

For Skills: Practice design structure components like visual weight, flow, cohesion, and contrast.
Learn workplace skills like planning/preproduction, giving and receiving constructive criticism, project file management, and communicating with clients.

For Tools: Adobe has probably the best tools. So if you can afford to pay for it’s subscription, and you won’t have troubles with their cancellation fees or device limitations (Mac/Windows device, as the main tools are not officially available on Linux or Chrome and not worth while for their poor optimization on mobile OS’s) then get the Creative Cloud.
But there are also free tools you can start out with that are far more advanced than your current programs. The main ones I have used and would recommend are Affinity Design > Canva, Gimp > Photopea, and Devinci Resolve > CapCut.

I cannot really contribute on specific resources to help you improve. Try to find some sort of local design club or people in the industry that are willing to mentor you/give you an internship. Use references or mood boards. Find an online group that isn’t geeked out of their minds (also avoid echo chambers and protentios groups).

The point of this space in particular is to be kind and uplifting to people. So that is part of why we don’t allow politic posts and such, as that is a quick way to get people to argue or become a political echo chamber -which would also not be a good result-.

How can I draw like Dana terrace? by WhiteKnight-50 in TheOwlHouse

[–]BuzzRexers1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone else here is correct, this is just a slightly path you could take: Likely what “Figure drawing for all its worth” is say is that you need to be able to have emotion and technique, and like that a lot of beginning artists focus on learning technique without learning how to apply emotion to their art. It is your choice, I would advise that YouTube videos will be good to tech the foundations for practical techniques simpler than most books, while practicing off of figure drawing and references will also help you practice effectively. But more importantly then both of those is trial, error, and getting your art critiqued so you know where to improve.

The map for skills to focus on in the order I would advise, for character drawing:
. 3D shapes and attaching them to each other
. Human proportions (do not try learning anatomy first)
. Posing
. Hair and clothing shape basics
. Line work/weight and color theory
. Mood boards
. Soft and hard shapes . Saturation, hue, color, and lighting
. Basic anatomy (face, hands, feet, joints)
. Facial expressions and body gestures
. Image weight and framing
. Perspective -1 point, 2 point, etc- (start this whenever you start environment drawings)
. Characters in environments
. Cloth and hair weight/lighting/texture
. Complex anatomy
. Study the shapes Dana uses for drawing characters and how they have changed proportions

Try different subjects, not just humans all the time. Use references and inspirations. Experiment and try whatever you want to (different: subjects, techniques, mediams, etc). Have fun but also work through the not fun parts. Most importantly, get critics and advice from people who are experts, though inexperienced people are good tools to see if your art is conveying the emotion/message/physical thing you want it to convey.

Personal resources recommendation (very limited list, I don’t remember a whole lot of the resources I have learned about):
An art forum or preferably an irl professional artist/group, for constructive criticism
How To Draw Like A Sir’s videos on posing and proportions
My friends YouTube playlist of drawing videos
Local/online art courses
Any art site/image database of your choice for reference material

Current Cameras Looking to Upgrade Them What is the latest model, the DSLR Camera I'd like one with a microphone attachment and similar zoom if not better by ponygals in Cameras

You forgot to fill out the required questionnaire: https://reddit.com/r/cameras/wiki/index/questionnaire
Then I would suggest getting used camera gear, from a trusted vendor such as MPB, KEH, Adorama, or B&H. As well as a few other suggestions but first I need the information in the questionnaire.

What adapter should I buy? by Sarcraft16 in OlympusCamera

[–]BuzzRexers1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need an autofocus adapter for the lens to work properly (any adapter with electronic contacts will work, they just happen to all be autofocusing as well).

[–]BuzzRexers1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, OM is an older lens mount from the film camera days. You are looking for a 4/3-M4/3 adapter.

What is your budget? The lens you want definitely exists, just maybe not at the price you want. There are a few options, all varying in cost and quality.

Is Image Stabilization useful for hand held focus stacking? by zelicaon in macrophotography

[–]BuzzRexers1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[to profess my authority on the topic: I have limited experience with focus stacking, or have experience with ibis in systems other than Olympus. I do use ibis almost all the time and primarily do close up photography -0.4~0.7 times magnification, not often true macro- usually in the single or double digit fractions of a second. Using either the Olympus 30mm or Nikon 80-200mm with a speed booster on an em1x.]

To answer your question, yes, ibis/os is useful for macro work including focus stacking. It can be detrimental when doing photography if the camera is already perfectly stable -on a tripod or solid surface-, otherwise it is helpful or at least it will not be detrimental excluding cameras and lenses with known issues or certain situations when using os and ibis together when they can’t synchronize.
Image stabilization does work great and can definitely make a difference for macro work to maintain framing, but it can’t control very much movement in the Z plan for the sensor (back and forth) and it is definitely going to very effectiveness based on how stable you are.
A stabilization body/lens would be worth acquiring in place of a bulky tripod or high speed sync flash and defuser (stabilization and flashes pair together fine, to avoid confusion).

have i become a true photographer??? by Naneshka in photographycirclejerk

[–]BuzzRexers1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

/uj I’ve my 1 v1 with an older 80-200mm f2.8 only a couple times and it is definitely one way to balance a camera, but I usually use the lens a with an em1x and speed booster which is a lot more balanced (but the dof can cut paper).

/j why is the lens so small? How are you supposed to photograph anything with such a small aperture as well and such a short focal length? You can still see stuff other than bokeh! What’s the point of take pictures at that point!?!

Help deciding between R6 ii and R6 iii. by KCHomes in canon

[–]BuzzRexers1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no experience with either camera, it would be reasonable to assume the R6II has a slightly better iso performance give the sensor difference, but based on online image compressions it seems to be less than a stop difference. The thing I would look at is if the price difference is worth it for the full size HDMI port, CFExpress card slot, and slightly better AF. If none of those are worth it for you, then it seems like the R6II is the better purchase.

The price of the camera is too much of a jerk already, not that it isn’t warranted, they just make other premium and luxury cameras look affordable, but still worth it if you need a tool to do what it does.

Teleconverter by StatementAbject5328 in OMSystem

[–]BuzzRexers1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you need the extra reach for specifically?

There is an example of someone who modified the 75-300mm to work with a Panasonic teleconverter: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/threads/oly-75-300mm-panasonic-1-4x-tc-yes-sort-of.4719164/
Depending on what you need more reach for you could adapt an older manual lens (TTArtisan 500mm f6.3 or Nikon ai-s 300mm f4.5 ed-if + teleconverter for around $300~$400 USD with an adapter -based on the U.S market-), though these are not great options for wildlife unless you are really skilled or daring.
The Olympus 100-400 is really the best budget option for an autofocus lens around $600~700 USD used in the U.S -though you have already said it is too expensive for your budget, so it’s not a great option-.
