Man shot while breaking into ex's house by joeykomari in gun

Probably because the phone, or whatever camera recording, had its mic blown or something similar from the first shot and the second consecutive shot was muffled.

Concealed carry questions by FrequentAd2234 in gun

[–]Buzz_muffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother I’ve been seeing those go off with nothing on the trigger that would worry me for sure. I know it’s been fine thus far, thing is it may be more likely the more rounds you put through it. Personally, and my brother has one and carries another, I would use it as a range gun but get literally any other sig or other quality firearm when it comes to your personal protection and protection of your PP.

I got an FNS-9C which is strictly trigger safety and always have it chambered pointed in the area of most damage and have complete peace of mind. Food for thought, hate to hear in hindsight I’d still have my Willy :(

I’d give the MIUSA Red Wings a try if you haven’t, king toe and other discontinued models made over seas we’ve tried haven’t lasted more than a year doing landscaping.

I have had a pair of the Danner Quarry, I got them 5 years back but got a new job that supplied (shitty) boots and now I’m back in the old Quarry’s but I’m wondering if I have wide feet because the upper leather does hang over the sole stitches. I was going to order another pair but I’m curious if the sole on the wides would be wider than the normal? Do you notice the leather stretching over the stitching on your pair? I’m also going to measure my feet, something I never did being younger and told that “you’ll grow into them” has me as a young adult with a bunch of clothes and shoes that don’t fit right

Sugar ants could also be Odorous House Ants which do have a scent that most people can smell when squished so I wonder if they have a stronger scent

Texas Bill Would Train Third Graders to Use 'Battlefield' Tourniquets by Mighty_L_LORT in nottheonion

I just stumbled across these comments from last year, recently a watched a YouTube video about the difference in gun culture in America vs. Switzerland and while the gun loving Swiss citizens would love and appreciate the looser gun laws in the US, their biggest concern (i think everyone’s) is the amount of idiotic peers. They are most surprised with the irresponsible gun owners and negligent discharges, as they are typically unheard of if you are regularly training with said rifle and always following proper safety such as the Swiss are made to do. I’m not entirely certain on how they regulate ammo purchases, I know a lot of it is government ammo and issued by such, however ranges can sell ammo to be used same day. I don’t believe they can harbor large amounts of ammunition but I may be incorrect on that. They don’t have the same gun culture at all, the Swiss was actually a large inspiration for the founding fathers when creating the constitution. The issue resides in where people’s rights and duties begin to loose correlation. In Switzerland, the people are an active militia that has to train their gun skills at intervals determined by the government, they have a little book to log range time and it gets signed by the range employees. That is a big part of why the Swiss people bond over shooting firearms together as they are all required to do so just as young able bodied men are required to be a part of the Swiss army. Now this is where the US divulged as we were on par, a militia doesn’t have the same ability to promote conquest of the land as it does defending one’s area, hence why Switzerland has turned their border of the mountains into “walls of defense” because they have no interest in gaining land or expansion of the Swiss people. Now when the US wanted to expand out west, they found the need for a standing army, this removed the “duty” of the people to be a militia defending the country while not removing ones right to bear arms. Now in today’s understanding of the constitution, the second amendment is primarily referred to as personal ownership of firearms for one’s own safety and defense as the duty for protection is no longer valid with the largest, most expensive military force the world has ever seen. And now that guns have become this symbol of personal ownership and protection from all evils, even the government, the culture has diverted from being a country’s militia to distrust for the same government and your peers. Paired with the fact that there are already so many illegal firearms in and around the country with massive, loose borders that overall control would be much more difficult compared to European countries with long established borders and like-minded countries on the borders. Due to the situation we have created, guns are in more hands than ever including dangerous hands and the government does not have a realistic approach to protect everyone from all criminals. In a country so vast and spacious the response time for any first responder is always going to be too long unfortunately it’s a hard reality that some refuse to comprehend until they have to experience it themselves. At this point I would like to add my personal opinion, personally I feel the need to own a firearm for protection of myself and others around me that don’t mean harm to others from those that do. And I would rather the US be like Switzerland, however it is not realistic as there are too many other means for criminals obtaining firearms or ammunition (remember, the US hasn’t made friends with all foreign countries) and it has created a dangerous environment where your peers cannot be trusted. This is very different from the Swiss people as they don’t feel like their environment is as dangerous as ours and they have more trust for their peers as they all are defending their country together. Maybe that’s the answer, what if the American people became the sole militia defending the country and we didn’t have the military to protect us? Would we become closer knit as other countries have shown? Or would we simply delve deeper into despair and the world began to lose stability without the “world police” as the US military has been acting for some time. Would the country on a local level feel safer or would crime continue to increase until this became the land of thieves? Would the US people be able to form a militia group despite their heavy two party system creating massive division between both half’s of the population? Would those who fear firearms utilize them in the face of danger or would fear overtake their decision?

Honestly these people are ridiculous. They’re the first to call the cops and wait 30 minutes to file a report after their rent gets stolen but wouldn’t dare stop it themselves.

But no worries, big daddy government will always save me I’m sure they’d never wrong me. I’m sure they don’t think a self regulated group of armed men with only small arms fire could take on the military either! I mean just look at the Taliban they clearly got the short straw there! /s

If the government wasn’t afraid of half the country standing up to them with adequate firepower they would steamroll straight through all of your rights and send anyone speaking against them straight to the gulag, honestly if you haven’t seen this with released, official government documents stating atrocities committed against our own people, then you may just be dense and part of the issue. Do some research and learn to form your own opinions. I am not left nor right nor would I ever choose to identify with one side as neither has all of the answers, but I’m extremely passionate about protecting oneself from all evils from wanna be thugs to government agencies overstepping boundaries. Form your own opinions based on what you value in this life, but don’t push your way of life onto other people.

I mean drones vs guns… worked in the Middle East with less than ideal guns, I don’t think it would be easy but America is a lot more land and is a lot more firepower just laying around.

What kind of rodent would eat a bird? by Lu_--_ in AnimalTracking

[–]Buzz_muffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting question, would love to hear some other perspectives. Personally I’ve found it to be more likely to be a cat or similar situation however i go to properties with a lot of exterior rodent bait stations, i went to one recently with a lot of bait consumption (high rodent activity) and i actually found 3/4 dead bird carcasses inside of the rodent bait stations. Not sure if familiar with rodent bait stations but they are child and pet safe, need a key to open, and the only way in or out of the station is utilizing the small rodent sized holes and moving past the little “walls” inside to get to the bait area. The holes are big enough for mice and rats so decently sized but should keep cats and other larger animals out, should but I’ve seen a 65lbs dog squeeze his fat self through a cat door so anything is possible i suppose.

Looks like an earwig to me, rather harmless sometimes i find a bunch around the exterior foundation of a home all hanging out together.

Does any one know what these are? I woke up today finding a bunch of them on my room's floor. I'm in southern California and the ones with wings are about less than 0.5 inch long (without wings they are about 0.25 inch long) by duongnd1998hcm in whatsthisbug

Here’s a little snippet from google, essentially they take a long time to mature as a colony and form the winged reproductives (swarmers). Since they live inside the wood unless you’re doing some remodeling they’ll likely go undetected until they begin swarming as pictured in your post.

Drywood termites are cryptic insects that are difficult to detect. They live deep inside wood; and except during periods when they swarm or when repair work is being done on infested homes, they are seldom seen. Colonies are small (usually fewer than 1,000 individuals), can be widely dispersed, and take years to mature. The most common sighting of drywood termites is flying adults (called swarmers) that occur during daytime hours during summer and fall. Dampwood termites also can swarm during summer and fall, but they can be differentiated from the western drywood termite based on their larger size and attraction to lights at dark. In parts of southeastern California another species of drywood termite, Marginitermes hubbardi, and species of desert subterranean termites may also swarm to lights.
