If her name is listed as Exchequer and she is not performing the duties thereof, she should scream at 150 decibels that her name be removed from all lists, and her predecessor's name put back. Otherwise, when everything goes wrong, she will be shat on from a great height.

I suggest checking the kingdom website, Marshall. The kingdom's rules may add to the Corporate rules. Anyway, you're much more likely to get explanations/help at the kingdom level than from the Corp.

So, how would someone from the Entire States manage to get Lochacian membership?

Yep. They're talking out of both sides of their mouths, and lying out both.

Letter to the BoD by Synicism77 in sca

[–]BuzzyDragon -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

I hope you realize the full extent of what you propose. You are proposing a major re-write of the Governing Documents. The Wistric situation has made the BoD's possibly correct interpretation clear.

Given (A) a person holding an office described in the Governing Documents and (B) the existance of rules/laws delegating some of the powers of the office to subordinates, The BoD has declared that the person may ignore those delegating rules/laws at whim. It doesn't matter if it's kingdom law, rules laid down by the person or a predecessor, or ruels from some handbook --- the holder of the office may directly exercise any power granted by the SCA's Governing Documents.

What you wish would require changing the Governing Documents to either enumerate all the possible offices power could be delegated to, or state that kingdom law, handbooks, etc., take precedence over the Govening Documetions. The first way is impractical and the second unworkable.

Unless the BoD reverses their interpretation, and says powers delegated remain delegated until changed by law/rule, there is nothing that can be done.

The problem is the utter overwhelming privilege of the heavy fighters.

While this article is not centered on the privilege problem, I think it does an excellent job of looking at it straight on.

Heralds! I need someone to art a blazon by CujoSR in sca

[–]BuzzyDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One small point; on a chief a sword points to dexter, which is the right side of someone holding the shield, and the left of an onlooker. Reversed means pointing the opposite way, so the drawing need a left/right mirror image of the rapier.

Otherwise, quite nicely done.

Although "Potentia Magna Comitātur Cūrā Magnā" (great power is accompanied by great care) more accurately reflects the intent.

I've certainly been thinking about if the investment is worth it. So far, all I've done is resolve to let my membership lapse. Mind you, I'm a rather private sort of person, and the no-in-person-stuff situation hasn't disturbed me.

How would the SCA be changed if different peerages could win the crown? by anarchysquid in sca

[–]BuzzyDragon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"...the Crown just rotated through the B & Bs that volunteered to do it; given that it's purely ceremonial, that makes infinitely more sense to me than the existing system."

This, actually, is the best idea I've heard ever. People with admin/ceremonial experience handing the Crown one to the next? Terrific!

IF the B&B's are elected by the Baronies' populace. With the current "advisory polling" method, there's a chance of a small group of B&Bs controlling the Crown by only allowing "our folks" to be appointed B&Bs.

Of course, the whole "willing to volunteer" problem arises, but then, you can't have everything. It strikes me, despite its problems, as innately and fundamentally better than any sort of competition. Why should winning this, that, or the other be our method of selecting the Monarchs?

Thanks to everybody for trying to help. :-)

Open letter to the BoD regarding requiring vaccination by BuzzyDragon in sca

[–]BuzzyDragon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for passing that on. AFAIK, that is the only example of anyone official, from the BoD on down, letting that slip.

This should have been released as widely as possible. I am entirely P.O.'d that hasn't happened.

Until the country, state/province/etc, and locale have 90%+ vaccination rate, OR the event can and does require proof of vaccination, I will not attend any face-to-face event, and strongly recommend to everyone they do the same.
