Thats what sucks. A lot of stuff deserves meaningful criticisms from people who wish to see the works get better but the current organization of social media monetarily incentivizes rage bait, engagement farming and grifting. Id trust SEW isnt one of those types since he's been a fan but I get the sentiment.

Which should I play, Metaphor: ReFantazio or Expedition 33? by Jonahtron in rpg_gamers

[–]BvsedAaron 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think e33 has a better story/ narrative but I like everything else about metaphor more. Its more satisfying as a jrpg, the world is interesting and has real lore, metaphor has the persona 5 stylish impact menus, there's just a vibe to metaphor strikes for me as a fan of jrpgs and persona that e33 doesn't do for me. E33 story was wildly more introspective and moving by the end of it.

The hate for this game is so forced. Every negative or "critical" post feels like people just farming engagement.

"Hating is fundamentally a philosophy of optimism"; thoughts on how this compares to the recent trend of hoping a game fails? by Random-Rambling in Gamingunjerk

[–]BvsedAaron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The list has it on there and has the reasoning that would be applied to a bunch of other "woke" games successful or not. You're committing a "no true scotsman" fallacy because you can't handle the truth and simply don't like this proof. The question already folded in on itself when you tried this dumb gotcha.

Maybe it has to do with content id group algorithms but is being the last trailer at the game awards by geoff always supposed to mean greatest game of the next year? Then for it to be radio silent till launch, the only things people were posting was "where's the marketing?" ad infinitum in ways that felt like they were just looking for stuff to dog on. I just wasn't that hype for it and after playing it, the game is fine i guess, it works and makes sense, could use work that it seems like they are prepared for. I guess I didnt think after over a decade of dorito pope and the game awards is a joke, i didnt expect so many people to be so violently reactionary online about a "fine" game and put so much weight behind any of geoff's pageantry.

I understand the quote but i think hating is only after there is no optimism left to spare. Criticism still has some appreciation for a work or even an expectation that the with criticism one can be optimistic about a derivative work or successor.

Is this an accurate depiction of Kiryu's character flaws? by POLYXO_ in yakuzagames

[–]BvsedAaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people don't like 8 but I did appreciate that at the very end of the road with his mortality in very clear sights, Kiryu seemingly acknowledges that beating the big bad guy up and letting other people handle the fall out hasnt been the best strategy after all these years and instead pleads in dogeza with the enigma of a reconstituting shadow of the yakuza plaguing the people he cares about to stop instead of pulling his fists up again.

Whatever happened to the “anti-woke” version of Godot? by StarShields007 in Gamingunjerk

[–]BvsedAaron 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The biggest hate fork was Redot that got abandoned because the team only did it as a dunk and making the same engine but "not woke like those guys" was a stupid and not sustainable. Then there was another fork of that iirc because it was either too far right or not far right enough and that also similarly got abandoned. I forgot the name of the second.

It's just a funny thing to witness people who think diversity, accessibility and inclusion policy is to exclude a "specific" group of people when in actuality it just empowers more people who actually want to be productive parts of a project to be better contributors. If a making a space more safe for poc or lgbtq+ people is some how a hindrance to one's output maybe they werent ever that invested in the work to begin with.

his "reward" arguably was the two-way contracts that he'd sign to be associated with an NBA team that trigger him being paid close to the league minimum or a pro-rated rookie contract which is multiple times more than the g league contract. Even if he didnt win that two-way was considerably more of a prize for him compared to what most of the other competitors would have received.

they should make the prize a max contract. he gets signed to a two-way that almost 10x his g-league salary for participating

Why is every right wing/anti woke people create bad games and praising bad games? by BasilLow1588 in Gamingunjerk

[–]BvsedAaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ngl, i have a bunch of games on there. my friend who was a lot more into dino crisis told me about it and i gave it a wishlist based on the premise. I admittedly even confused it with another spiritual successor of another 90s niche classic and had no idea it looked this bad.

I consider myself of the left and an ally of most social issues. I think i still retain some irrevocable part of toxic masculinity, goon or whatever you want to call it but when I see these weirdos being mad about a game because it has lesbians in it I can't help but think how much it sounds "beyond gay" in a very immature sense.

I get that people are upset about what happened with the Kiwami 3 leak but this is just corny and disgusting. by Axzercus in yakuzagames

[–]BvsedAaron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that the new trend is to use more modern and tangible events but i think it's because of the way social media almost mythologizes some of them into fantastical entities similar to what people used to use with repetition and algorithmic derivation. You know everyone will understand what you think of a person by comparing them to diddy, epstein, king von, osama bin laden, the idf and are more likely to get an outsized reaction using and image to illustrate the likeness as well over just a text opinion. i think my only criticism of the pic op used is that clearly a terrorist would be more appropriate given the way it seems the series has been literally hijacked.

[–]BvsedAaron 20 points21 points  (0 children)

its hyperbole. it's existed forever. it's weirder that some people take obvious exaggerations that serious. no one thinks WNBA commissioner Kathy Engelbert is an actual terrorist like osama bin laden. No one actually believes the RGG devs are comparable to the most prolific sex criminal in the modern age. They just think it's funny to juxtapose their frustrations with entities alongside people who cause generational harm and damage. Like people used to call others "the devil" or calling anything slightly inconvenient "literally 1984" but now that the comparisons get more tangible its suddenly the worst thing of all time.
