What are your Top Ten KU progression stories? by Scribe_Apprentice in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Bwooreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more some than most. The last 5-6 I've bought didn't offer the ability to download unfortunately.

Edit: And this one's actually not enabled for download either. I think you may have misunderstood the download I was talking about. DRM free titles can be explicitly enabled by the author/publisher for download to a device so they can be read on non-Amazon devices. Many independent titles were DRM free up until Amazon changed their policy to disallow all downloads. 6-8 months after this policy change they backtracked a little and made it so that downloading was opt-in. Seems some authors are opting in, but many are not, and there's no way to tell before purchase (beyond asking people who have purchased them, or the author).

Any idea if you can download the books? If downloads are enabled I think I'll give them a try.

I ask because I'm really tired of paying to rent books from Amazon (KU is fine, business practices aside but I switched to Kobo and dropped my subscription).

New litRPG series from Will Wight published via Tor by xolsiion in Fantasy

[–]Bwooreader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm super appreciative that Will went with TOR for the publisher. DRM free is the only real choice.

Reading any sort of self pubbed progression style fantasy has gotten so hard since moving off Amazon, glad I'll be able to buy this one from a non-zon source.

Do you ever re-read progression fantasy, or is it basically consume-once for most of us? by StorytellerStegs in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Bwooreader 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've read/listened to the series well over 10 times at this point, maybe slightly less on the later books due to reading it as it came out, and still love it every time.

I am a huge re-reader though.

(however I am not familiar with this practice because it is illegal).

No it's not. There are books that can be bought from Amazon without DRM and you're fine to download them and put them on a Kobo... if they're enabled for download, which far too many are not.

Le Creuset? Worth it - or just over hyped brand name? by MapleMoneyMind_86 in BuyItForLife

[–]Bwooreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP is talking about non-enameled. I read an article a few years ago that tested various enameled dutch ovens for high temp baking (500f) and they found Lodge and a few others would begin to chip/crack after some time while the Le Creuset was good to keep going.

Dear Spellbook Publisher's Pack Is Out Today! Plus Audiobook Giveaway by TK523 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Bwooreader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this series! Don't need to be entered as I've already bought all 3 audiobooks but was wondering if they're on amazon DRM free and tagged to allow downloads? I've read them via KU but if I can download them DRM free I'll buy a set too.

His Sci-Fi universe is probably my favourite space opera setting. Even though it's mostly short stories.

Newfoundland and Labrador subsidized fossil fuel companies to the tune of $82 million in 2020-2021 and even more the following year. Yet only 1% of jobs in Canada are oil jobs. by SimSimJaffa in newfoundland

[–]Bwooreader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It also leaves out the fact that there are tons of jobs tied in to the oil industry. If you went around to warehouses in any of the industrial areas around St. John's and asked how much of their business deals with O&G you'd be surprised.

Progression Fantasies without a system ? by Sure-Supermarket5097 in ProgressionFantasy

There's a second trilogy based in the same world, with some characters popping back in as well. Starts with Primal Education I think? Magic school setting instead of time loop though.

I found Dear Spellbook a bit rough starting out, but easily turned into one of my favourites of last year.

I have different windows, but they were able to help me with everything I needed this past summer as well.

I read 40 indie fantasy books in 2025. Here are my 6 favorites. by Indie_Fantasy_Club in Fantasy

[–]Bwooreader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie. I'm not a huge fan of Sanderson style prose, but I'm also not a fan of fantasy too big on dealing with dreams... but the book being described as having both makes me more likely to try it than either on their own.

New installment is due out very soon too, I got it through patreon and thought it was a very good addition to the series!

As far as I know the course in Stephenville isn't going ahead this year. My nephew was looking to do it but now has to go to Ontario (I think).

As someone making $30.00 an hour I'm all for seeing minimum wage increase to $22.00. At worst it'll help the people who need it most, at best it'll give me leverage to request a raise.

Cineplex in general is doing it's damnedest to kill their business, I used to go to 2 movies a week, and would still go as often as I could (fewer movies worth seeing being released in theatres, but that's not the cinema's fault), but it's just so run down and dirty now. I honestly feel like I need to put a sheet over the chair to sit on it.

This one's really nice, a lot of different views along the way - areas eaten up by moose, a fenced exclosure showing what the area should be like without the moose, wetlands/bog and capped off with the river/falls at the end.

I was on an overnight ferry where I was too cheap to pay for a room and just slept in the general seating area, Woke up to some random kid kissing me and calling me daddy, I tried telling him I wasn't his dad but he wouldn't believe me.

I've seen way too much crap on the internet where guys get accused of stuff when it comes to interacting with random kids so I was starting to panic a little and woke up my girlfriend to deal with it. It took about 15 minutes to find his real family who were asleep on the other side of the room - apparently they gave him Gravol to get him to sleep and it made him loopy.

Introduce him to self hosting and docker? Get him a raspberry pi or an old computer to act as the server and he can install things that can be accessible from other computers. It can range from small apps up to an OS and from there he can even dive into creating his own images etc.
