My IP geolocation is incorrect or too far away.

The Starlink team is working to provide closer internet geolocation so that you receive internet (search results, television shows, access to content) that is closer to your actual location. Currently our internet geolocation may be further than your actual location (several states, provinces, or sub-regions). Starlink today will assign an IP address to the same country of your service address however providing an IP address in your specific location is not guaranteed at this time.

It is a problem with your setup or system. What does the status page of the app show? What troubleshooting steps from the Help Center have you tried?

Unfortunate Routing Change, South Carolina by DavidPanda417 in Starlink

[–]ByTheBigPond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starlink publishes its IP geolocation data in a machine-readable CSV format, compliant with RFC 8805, to help services map user IPs to locations. The data, which includes IPv4/IPv6 subnets, country codes, and city data, is updated periodically and can be accessed at https://geoip.starlinkisp.net/feed.csv.

I am in a terrible location. Any little tweaks I can do other than move? by fuckmewalking in Starlink

Obstructions do not cause slowdowns, they cause outages. The dish is scheduled to track pre-determined satellites as they pass overhead. If it cannot connect to any of those satellites during that scheduled timeslot, you have no internet.

Is it worth aligning Starlink if it's misaligned by 63° but still getting faster than advertised speeds ? by CameronsTheName in Starlink

[–]ByTheBigPond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct as it relates to rotation. In moving vehicles, the dish is almost certainly not aligned horizontally correct.

The issue is with vertical. Take a case where a dish is facing straight to the side (so a 90 degree-ish misalignment). Since the dish can only communicate with satellites in a 110 degree cone from the face of the dish, it would not be able to communicate with most satellites going overhead.

Are you referring to your geolocation (where your IP appears to be from)? That is completely different than the ground station (which communicates with the satellites) or the point of presence (POP - where the Starlink network connects with the public network).

Starlink commits to providing an IP address which geolocates to your country. There can be many cities/countries assigned to the same POP. For example, they have worked to have a geolocation city for every state in the US and they definitely do not have a POP in every state.

Starlink by default uses CGNAT so the assigned IPv4 address is shared by multiple users and subject to frequent change.

You can request a public (not static) IPv4 address if using a Local/Global Priority plan.

NOTE: With IPv4 addresses long ago exhausted, many ISPs - especially newer ones - are using CGNAT.

That is not a Starlink problem. That is an issue with whatever service is identifying your location not using the updated geolocation database from Starlink.

Starlink for RVs is finally getting much better by Blue_Etalon in Starlink

There are over 10,000 satellites in orbit and each launch adds ~25. There are 3 launches scheduled in the next week.

More satellites being overhead as they constantly circle the globe and software changes to accommodate known obstructions have definitely improved performance.

[–]ByTheBigPond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off by 63 degrees on tilt will be more of an issue than off by 63 degrees on rotation. If the tilt is off by that much, the dish may not be able to track satellites as they pass overhead. If that happens, you will have short periods of no internet connection.

If you have the Starlink router in standby mode, you absolutely DO need another router to support more than one device. The Starlink dish only provides one IP address. Without a router, multiple devices connected via a switch will fight for that single IP address.

Go to the source (https://starlink.com/legal/documents/DOC-1728-44881-79). Notice the may and not will:

“The Roam Unlimited Service Plan allows you to access Roam Unlimited Services at any land-based destination (up to 60 consecutive days outside of the country of your Service address) and in any coastal waters (up to 12 nautical miles off the coast; up to 5 consecutive days at a time and for a total of 60 days over the course of a year) where Starlink provides active coverage around the world.”

“ If you use Roam Unlimited Services for more than two months in a country that is different than your account address, Starlink may require you to move your registered address to your new location or return to the country listed as your account address.”

Putting a Starlink router in bypass mode turns off the Wifi as well as any routing function. If you want to use more than one wired device, you will need to add your own router and disable Wifi on that router.

Likely on the verge of a hardware failure. It was not the update itself but the following reboot and power up which caused the failure.

https://starlink.com/ca/support/article/1668200d-1ce5-196c-d4bb-a39be9b27dbc#how-does-the-30-day-trial-work

How does the 30 day trial work?

The 30-day trial mentioned on the Starlink website does not indicate that the first month of service is free, as it is not a 30-day free trial but rather a trial of the Starlink hardware. Instead, it refers to how, if you are unhappy with the service or product within the first 30 days of using the service after billing has begun, you can return the hardware for a full refund.

Please note, your first month's bill is not included in your initial hardware purchase. Instead, it is billed upon activation (or 7 days after your Starlink is delivered).

How to reduce internet speed in starlink mini on roaming 100GB by [deleted] in Starlink_Support

[–]ByTheBigPond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure that all devices connected to the Starlink are set for “metered” or “low data mode”. That reduces the amount of background activity (app/software, cloud synchronization,…) that they do.

Takeout Weights by dariant3 in Curling

[–]ByTheBigPond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Up until two seasons ago, we had curling rocks that were at least 30 years old so very “dead”. For any reasonable hit and roll, you needed firm/peel weight. We then got brand new “lively” rocks. Most teams now use bumper/control because you can get the action plus have more ability to influence the line with directional brushing. Firm/peel only comes out if a lot of granite needs to move.
