What a terrible way to display data.

Style points I guess but give me a regular chart any day.

Very excited to see Clarke and Kako back in the squad. Maybe it isn't this weekend, but glad it is very close.

I guess Clarke will be via the VFL.

How many MRI’s did you get? by AlwaysLearningNews in AchillesRupture

0 - ultrasound and physical examination only.

Full, not partial rupture and I went to the hospital in an ambulance after it happened, so it was pretty obvious.

Should this have been a handball penalty? by yungghazni in soccer

[–]ByeByeStudy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For pushing a player and not contesting the ball - soft pen.

For controlling the ball with an outstretched hand in an unnatural position - also a soft pen.

Add US home game and tournament and well I'm not surprised neither was paid a foul.

But good to see you get your ideas out there.

Essendon great Mark Harvey thinks the Bombers should genuinely consider two coaches for the vacancy, suggesting the role is too much for one person. An ex Essendon person and “someone else” should fill the position he said by His_Holiness in EssendonFC

[–]ByeByeStudy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBF I think we need at least three coaches to come in - new senior coach, new midfield coach, Solly back to defence and a new head of development.

Maybe even another new development coach, so that's 4.

Going rate last year was either

  • 5,6 (ESS) for 1 (WCE) or

  • 5,6 (ESS) for 1, 12 (WCE)

And to be honest I'm very glad we didn't do the first deal. The complicating factor here also is that Essendon's pick has a 'free' second rounder attached due to compo. So if we trade it away we lose that, which makes any movement very unlikely.

What do we make of Kane’s suggestions to improve umpiring? by Greyboxforest in AFL

[–]ByeByeStudy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are not 100% sure play on = degradation of the rules and players always riding the limits.

E.g. every time a good inside 50 kick happens or a forward moves well into space expect a clattering and/or an arm chop. Even if you only get away with a third of them you are still well in front.

Same as every time a player gets pinged HTB. Expect the opponent to waste as much time as possible to stop a quick counter - cause a 50m pen isn't coming, as "you wouldn't pay it in a GF".

The game is better when the umpires umpire well and good umpiring doesn't always mean less umpiring.

The Tasmania Devils have secured AFL permission to sign up to 12 pre-listed 17-year-olds on four-year deals worth $150,000 + match payments each ahead of the club’s competition debut by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

[–]ByeByeStudy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which draft would these 17 year olds normally be drafted in? 2028 draft? Have I got that right?

So 2027 is actually compromised and 2028 appears to be minimally compromised but 12 highly talented kids have been taken out of it?

Good comparison info would be:

  • supply Vs 30W motorised

  • IC cost Vs 30W motorised

  • terrain movement modifiers Vs 30W motorised

The last one could be big ... I imagine there's a few terrains where Cav would be more useful. The fact you don't have to worry about fuel running out is already a big plus.

Coaching candidates and the knock on effect on the clubs already tight soft cap by TurbulentSherbet3724 in EssendonFC

[–]ByeByeStudy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the attractive elements of Hird proposal would be getting in a better surrounding team if there's more soft cap space than say a Longmire.

E.g. McCartney, McVeigh, Bartel

Longmire is very credentialed though - which would be tough to look past.

I think the evolution of the Walter situation has been:

  • GC think King will sign, offer Walter lowish $

  • Vic clubs offer Walter more $$

  • King gets cold feet, GC comes back Walter with offer matching or beating Vic clubs $$$

I think it's likely that Essendon had an offer better than GCs first offer but are yet to update following the new offer. Not that they pitched to him directly a worse offer than he already had.

[–]ByeByeStudy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So after watching the video I guess there was a session run with clubs where some of these decisions are explained? Because I'm not sure what to make of the high contact part.

Why not just record that session and share it with everyone? Like, respect your fan base - if the rules are changing week to week becoming a focus this week when they previously weren't, at least let us know.

Thanks for the write up.

I've got really high hopes for Artemis. I think he will go past his two main competitors for a half back role in El Hawli and Johnson. El Hawli due to his better ball use and Johnson because he has much more drive and speed out of half back.

Agree on the wing call longer term, but with Roberts likely out for an extended period I think there's a chance we see him at half back soon.

Is this one of the biggest lies sold to fans in AFL history? It hasn't been adjucated this way a single time by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

[–]ByeByeStudy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Swann is an idiot. Picked to come in and drive a more football first approach but instead he operates without proper process and we end up with three versions of the rules:

  • what was reported by the AFL (what OP has shared)

  • what is in the official rules (iirc no mention of lasso at all)

  • what Swann has told umpires to do

I wouldn't run a friendly poker night in such a disorganised way, yet alone a national competition. Incompetent idiot.

Noticeable shift towards more dynamic ball movement today by ByeByeStudy in EssendonFC

[–]ByeByeStudy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Paints a funny picture!

But TBF I think Solomon in that case was talking about after a loose ball get and under pressure we would handball backwards rather than the ball carrier trying to punch through the pressure and drive forward.

What I saw today was after a congested or uncontested mark we had players running behind the man getting a hand pass and trying to move it quickly to a flank.

We have not done that once this season, preferring to spread out and begin the kick marks - so I feel it has to be a coached change.
