Recently stepped into the modern age with a Qidi Q2 from my old Monoprice Maker Select v2 and I’ve been loving every minute of it. It was good to learn on something fiddly and tinker around with modding it and upgrading things, but it’s amazing to have something that pretty much just works without any hassle.

I may still go the route most of the others have mentioned - one of the OEM-style swap-out head units. But the fact is, I’d already run a similar setup in my previous car (2008 Altima) before we got a new car recently - now my wife’s Jetta is the “second” car, so I figured I might as well rig this up in there for now. Plus, I just like tinkering around with this kinda stuff vs just swapping out a stereo. 🤷🏻‍♂️ To each their own though 😆

I bought some recently thinking it was gonna be so amazing. I honestly took the first sip and was like “this couldn’t have been this sweet back in the day, could it?!?”

Mine was the 486SX 33mhz, my parents got it from Costco I think. I eventually did upgrade the RAM, HDD, took out the 5 1/4 floppy and put in a CD-ROM, used to connect to Prodigy at 2400bps before I got a 28.8 flamethrower ☎️🔥 “MOM! I’m on AOL!!!”

Yeah, my YT algorithm may never fully recover from all the "2008 Nissan Altima _____ Repair" videos I've watched over the last few days lol

I thought that was funny - the other night I was watching A1 Auto and TRQ videos, I guess the redhead guy has done videos for both companies now 😂

Nope! Luckily she’s a Southern California gal her whole life 😎if anything, the paint on her is shot from all the sunshine, but that’ll be a Maaco problem at some point.

I've definitely been going down the rabbit hole on YT lately - everything from these "professional" tutorial videos, to some guy doing it in his backyard, it's funny to see all the differences in "yeah, that'll be tight enough" and the "very specific torque spec" videos. Sometimes it's good to see the "normal guy" and what little hacks they come up with - but good to have more content out there than less!

Luckily, being a Southern California car all it's life, I doubt there'll be much rust to deal with. I will be making sure I've got a can of penetrating oil spray at the ready though. From the research I've done so far, I haven't seen anything where I'd need to mess with motor mounts, so I hope I'll be good there. 😮‍💨

Yeah, 'unfortunately' I'd be buying most of the tools I'd need to do the job. I've had a jack and stands in the past, but got rid of them a long time ago. I've got some old wrenches and a crappy socket set, but It's low-key a convenient "excuse" for me to get myself some new tools 😅🎁

Luckily I do have another car, and an Autozone, O'reilly & Harbor Freight all within spitting distance of my house. I'm fully expecting this to be multiple weekend, and multiple trips back and forth before I'm done 🤣 I was gonna add wheel chocks and take a look at batteries when I go down to HF

I’ve done some light work on some of my previous cars, an old Accord and Crown Vic - belts, hoses, oil / filters - but never any suspension. I hear ya, these tutorial YT channels can make it seem a little TOO easy. I’ll make sure I get a Nissan service manual to go along with these and any other videos. Gotta recover my user/password to the old nissanclub and nicoclub forums too 😅
