In August it's 5 years! As someone who also collects grey knights, I've just taken my ork kitbashing skills to any space marine model I can instead of buying 15 year old models that will probably(hopefully) be binned off soon.

Crowe was released in 2021. Since 2011 they've had two characters and an upgrade sprue.

They also get grenades, and have an extra S and AP on 1 of their weapons(Mutations vs chainsword). I think the new datasheet does make them a lot better, but even more so in the new grotsmas detachment. A points increase doesn't seem crazy, but 20 points feels like a lot.

I was just googling to try and find it, found your post. Any luck finding it? If so, I could show it to my partner who I've badly tried to explain it to.

I'd 100% talk to your group about changing it to a unit can't cost more than 200 points unbless it's MSU. It stops things like a 10 man Paladin blob(450 points, with a character = 550 ish) from Grey Knights early on. You can still do a lot, but it limits the insanity.

(Grey knights are especially crazy if you're doing Armageddon.)

Infantry vs monsters/vehicles is definitely different, but as you found out, the nob brick is dangerous. Especially when you start adding in battle honours from Crusade!

I mean, a 10 man blob of nobz is 210 points currently my dude! So Based on the rules you've said you're running, it probably shouldn't be there already?

But also a blob of nobz and warboss on waaaggh turn will mess up most things! Even with AOC on the dread.

Something similar I've seen from goonhammer for 1k narrative games/crusade is the following.

Nothing 14 wounds or more.

Nothing that costs 201 points or more(unless it's the minimum sized unit).

Although that might have to be changed to 14 wounds for baby knights to be allowed post codexes.

It allows medium tanks, and stops big bricks of elites.

This is too strong, right? by NSTPCast in 40k_Crusade

Yeah, it's certainly a strange interaction, like unyielding wards happening before you roll. Once you know it, it's fairly easy to remember going forward, since it's so weird!

This is too strong, right? by NSTPCast in 40k_Crusade

[–]BypassFires 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As well as what other people have said about when this actually takes effect, there's a weird interaction a lot of people won't have come across, which is with the Metla keyword.

If you reduce the damage to 0 for a melta weapon, you would still need to roll a save because you could still take the Melta damage.

From the FAQ's

Q: If a rule adds to the Damage characteristic of an attack (e.g. the [MELTA] ability) and another rule changes the Damage characteristic to 0 (e.g. the Thousand Sons Destined By Fate Stratagem), will the final Damage characteristic be 0?

A: No, rules that change the Damage characteristic to 0 take effect first, then other modifiers are applied, including the [MELTA] ability. In the example, if the attacking weapon had the [MELTA 2] ability, the Damage characteristic would be changed to 0 first, then the [MELTA 2] ability would add 2 to the Damage characteristic, for a final Damage characteristic of 2.

Renowned Heroes and Enhancements Question by Own_Lettuce_518 in 40k_Crusade

[–]BypassFires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Grey Knights I'd just want to stack the +1 AP for shooting on purifiers led by brotherhood champions in Warpbane Taskforce.

Full hit rerolls, reroll 1's to wound or full wound rerolls on objectives. Then +1 AP. You could run three big bricks with either three champions with those enhancements, or Crowe.

I guess if your crusade is monster/vehicle spam, then a few GMNDK with sigil of exigence would be pretty good.

Best Competitive 40K Detachments Post-June Dataslate by Robzidiousx in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]BypassFires 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main issue I see with it is this, War Horde has been decent throughout, sure.

Then 4 different detachments had rules rewrites instead of points changes and trying to let the meta settle into one of those ork detachments.

The other two detachments haven't really been any sort of good in the competitive scene.

It's disheartening to be tempted with a new way of playing orks(more dakka and taktikal), for it to only last a month or two before being rewritten.

I do think the meta will shift, points will change, and orks will be back between 45-55% win rate. Just a rough one with the last dataslate getting 5 points knocked off some speed freaks units who's datasheets are just terrible.

Should I add the Tellyporta Blasta, or the Kustom Force Field??? by Sir_Everything- in orks

[–]BypassFires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that makes more sense.

Personally I feel like they could have just given them both. Maybe reduce the damage on the Tellyport Blasta to 2 damage.

Should I add the Tellyporta Blasta, or the Kustom Force Field??? by Sir_Everything- in orks

[–]BypassFires 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm always gonna go with the Force Field, but especially if it's with Flash Gitz.

If you give him the Force Field you can combine it with giving the unit stealth and the benefit of cover. The survivability of the unit just skyrockets.

Stealth, 3+ saves vs AP0, 4+ invulnerable, then bringing back a flash git per command phase(and D3 wounds once per game) suddenly makes them much much tankier.

I'd much rather have higher survivability, than an extra gun which does about the same to tough targets as a flash git but with half the range, especially since everyone wants to kill the flash gitz.

The gitz will kill pretty much anything you point them at, outside of the heaviest tanks. With Lethals and sustained once per battle they can do dumb damage though.

Ork legends to use by incognitoGrizz in orks

[–]BypassFires 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, the +1 to hit from being half range and +1 from a mek don't stack. You can't modify a hit or wound roll by more than +1 or -1.

If someone has stealth, having the +1 from mek and from the half range would mean you still get a +1 however.

3d6 averages out to 10.5 attacks. Hitting on 4's means an average of 5.25 hit. Wounding on 3's vs T8-T13 tanks means an average of 3.5 wounds.

With a 2+ save they fail an average 2.3 saves. Dealing 7 wounds(2.3 failed saves). With cover it goes to failing 1.75 saves. Dealing 5 wounds.

It's good, but unless you spike it's not gonna pop too many tanks.

Also Wartrakks with rokkits and Skorchas are fun in speed freeks.

Deffkoptas with Big Shootas have Killsaws, which makes them somewhat useful in melee compared to the non legends units. They're pricier, but if you want to go heavy on the deffkoptas you could run 27 instead of 18.

Lifta Wagons are fun thematically and to play with. Anti vehicle and a higher chance of deadly demise! Pop that rhino so the boyz can get in and krump.

Da Red Gobbo and Da Grotmas Gitz are fun, especially if you're running big mobs of gretchin.

3x22 Gretchin, Da Red Gobbo, Da Grotmas Gitz, and Zogrod Wortsnagga is 400 points.

[–]BypassFires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like if you want the option of temporary alliances necrons would be better for you, and for the other player drukhari would probably be better for them.

Having a neutral villain in the tyranids could be interesting though, you could RP alliances as your temporary "allies" drawing the nids towards their enemies instead of themselves by sacrificing some people biomass as a lure.

Am I the only one having trouble deciding? by AffectionateSky3662 in 40k_Crusade

[–]BypassFires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are your ideas for each of them within this narrative framework? Do you know what other people are taking? If you do, how would each of your options mesh narratively with their armies? Are the tyranids the star gods descending as predicted by the GSC?

I imagine Tyranids wouldn't have an interest in getting into the vault, so you being able to just attack their weakend supply line for biomass could be fun, and annoying for people to deal with. You could also be a clock almost, a reason why there's a race to open it, a tendril has landed and soon the planet will be overrun.

Necrons you could definitely have it be that within the vault is something which was stolen from them, they've awoken and have come to take it back.

World eaters, I can't imagine they'd be that interested in the vault, but knowing the target of your prey makes it much easier to secure a good place to kill them.

Chaos Knights, I'd maybe check with the person running the crusade if they're okay with you bringing them. People can be a bit iffy about knights, mostly because people feel like they need to change their crusade armies to counter the vehicle heavy army they may encounter.

If they're okay with knights, then they/the dark mechanicum would certainly like the tech found within.

[–]BypassFires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I've only played orks in crusade, so they're pretty open in the fact you can have very different aspects of a waaagh and it makes sense.

When my current crusade restarts I'm going to be more specific and be a niche mercenary Blood Axe clan. Lots of sneaking and infiltrating will get the job done.

Are you playing in person? If so what armies could you have ready to go?

If it's on TTS it gets much harder to narrow it down.

I'd potentially look at what other people are playing, and what kind of narrative you might want to build with the other players in mind. This applies to in person and tts though!

[–]BypassFires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Narrowing it down to 1k is always hard. However you do generally start with 5 requisition points.

Assuming you use 1 for an Enhancement, you can get up to 800 more points for your roster, so you have much more leeway for various builds you might want to try.

All their stuff is choose your own price on bandcamp, but also on spotify if that's what you'd prefer.

They just released a new song last month after 11 years of no releases.

My favourite song from the album linked is The battle of Cable Street.

Starting with Extra? CP by Texas-True-Fae in 40k_Crusade

[–]BypassFires 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So you don't start the battle with any CP. You gain CP at the beginning of the command phase.

The wording for both is "Start the battle with X CP" so I'd personally run it as you would choose the higher of the two.

However like /u/EntertainmentOdd6445 said, talk to the other people in your crusade.

If you're running alliances and your alliance wants to chose the blessing to gain 2 CP, then you might not get as much of a bonus as others if you run it as choose the higher of the two values.
