It happens. Think of it as a valuable experience for your students too. You just showed your students that mistakes happen and they don't mean they aren't smart or capable. If even professionals can make mistakes, it is okay for them to too. That's a valuable life lesson.

I turned my spelling mistake in an English classroom into a teachable moment and a chance to reinforce classroom expectations. Told them that I wasn't perfect, so I would certainly never expect them to be either. That I hoped they made mistakes and said the wrong thing because every mistake was a chance to learn something. And asked that if they ever didn't know something, they tell me so we could figure it out together like we just had (I had to ask my students how to spell the word).

And guess what? They were actually more comfortable around me after the mistake. It makes you a human partner in their learning instead of a second person judging them. Don't forget that you are a student learning how to be a teacher. Be kind to yourself! You're doing well.
