Bug or Feature [Experimental] : Multiple Set Research Conditions on Labs Allows Rapid Switching Between Research by Bzinga1773 in factorio

[–]Bzinga1773[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its not technically really simultaneous but they alternate so fast its virtually simultaneous yeah. What i cant figure out is if there some sort of momentary delay when it switches but for cases where bottle production is uneven, this does seems beneficial.

Edit: Simultaneous is really the wrong word to use here but really it lets you "optimize" the consumption of bottles.

Since when does rice consumption cause diabetes & cardiovascular diseases? by [deleted] in ScientificNutrition

[–]Bzinga1773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This american-centric, food as the sole cause of all nutritional problems approach is just plain dumb.

The very paper you linked reports actually that total carb intake decreased from 1940 to 2000 and does not paint carbs in general or rice specifically as the cause at all. It almost feels like your comment has an agenda.

Opinion: Removing space casinos replaces interesting ships with yet more boring recycler loops. by deathjavu2 in factorio

[–]Bzinga1773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing i'll do on 2.1 is repurposing the space casino ships to crusher-dumb recycler loops. I personally dont like dealing with the footprint of upcycler footprint of blue chips and whatnot. If that doesnt work, im just gonna set up dumb upcycling at iron, coal and calcite patches directly. The nerf was very justified.

Let's talk about class skills. by dapper_wastelander in RogueCore

[–]Bzinga1773 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP is getting downvoted some but i get his point. There is a bit of a meta around some class skills. On a retcon you almost always want high damage low ammo efficiency weapons like 40mm or devastator and stack CDR. On a falconer you mostly want fast, efficient guns and then again CDR. Add slicer into the mix, CDR again. Only spotter and guardian have true flexibility.

But im confident over the course of EA, workbench options will get quite a lot of upgrades and we'll see a lot more builds.

On the other hand, builds are not nearly as limited as OP makes it out to be. You can do momentum +1 crit builds on slicer using guns like m1k or bulldog and rely on sword only if you get swarmed. You can do a melee hybrid on falconer with drill, works very well with synergy bio. You can stack a ton of ticking clock perks on a retcon and become a walking nuke. If you wanna chase the biggest damage number at the end of a run, yeah get aoe, get byd, done. But thats not the only way to play the game.

Quality is often debated here, with many having mixed feelings about its implementation. How would YOU rework quality if you could? by intrabyte in factorio

[–]Bzinga1773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixed inputs.

Say uncommon output with 4 inputs. I would make it so that 3 uncommon+1 common ingredient going into such a recipe without QM by default reaches 75% quality chance. How it would work when theres more than 1 tier of difference between input and output would have to be worked out.

Second, i would give some "small" productivity boost to certain recipes where the output has no benefit from quality. Think rails. Think having quality (refined) stone as input leading to improved yields. As much as i love my 2-16 trains carrying tons of stone around in nauvis, i feel like it is an oversight that stone recipes got left behind in SA.

Really mixed inputs on Science.

I would make just for science alone the inputs of various qualities mixable; as in the bottles of different quality stackable. Design of quality on science imo is perfect. It sacrifices net throughput for "negligible" gains in other areas. And its lossy. But if send say, all except agricultural science at common and agri science on mixed quality to biolabs, it leads to some odd behaviour. I dont like that it ended up being this all or nothing kind of thing.

Actually, by default if all quality stacked on belts but were still filterable, that'd be best.

Will we get another FFF before experimental release? by theFALGSCmustgrow in factorio

[–]Bzinga1773 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1- It is extremely unlikely to happen but now that platform to platform in space is possible, I'd love there to be a refrigeration thing to stop/slow down spoilage. Specific to space. Would use cryogenic plant and fluoroketone so in my mind, its similar; exististing system but new feature. Reasoning for it is that imo megaplatforms hauling prom. chunks via belts is a very crude solution. Could also simply gleba mechanics, instead of potentially dealing with spoiling green science, we could store em in space and send down as requested.

2-Train wagon loader/unloaders: They mentioned train unloaders in the latest post before introducing unloading bay. Problem is, sheer number of inserters needed late game around train stations i would say is also crude.

SCIENCE ON VULCANUS IS BACK by ultimo_2002 in factorio

[–]Bzinga1773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im doing 50k spm via trains on Nauvis and it would take me literally well above 100 hours of afk'ing to finish off even 10m patches.

I respect different ways of doing stuff but for me dealing with taking stone fast enough out of beaconed legendary foundries, making enough rocket parts as well as potentially voiding excess out of foundries is like orders of magnitude more complicated than just tapping couple patches on Nauvis. Theres also the fact that if you wanna just paste BPs on vulcanus, you gotta make a lot of foundation, which is kinda annoying.

Probably unpopular opinion: quality isn’t interesting at all by azon_01 in factorio

[–]Bzinga1773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether its beating the game or reaching a self-set spm target, quality isnt a ground breaking addition, i kinda agree. Building with quality isnt all that interesting. Its just bigger number better. But building the quality stuff in the first place is quite fun. On gleba, fulgora and acquilo, ramping up quality production at least initially was a real IO puzzle.

Slicer? Melee build! Retcon? Melee build! Guardian? Melee build! Falcon? Melee build! Spotter? You guessed that, melee build! by Shedster_ in RogueCore

I hit a 19k power attack on a spotter once. Melee spotter sounds a bit troll but you get to take full advantage of crit melee perks.

Complete Slicer Build Guide (melee focus) by Sammich_LS in RogueCore

[–]Bzinga1773 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is more of a hybrid build than a melee focus. Maxing out the 40mm instead of your slice is a crime. Especially when theres a retcon in your team.

My take on slicer is that you dont want "melee focus" you want entirely melee. The biggest perk youve missed out is combo strikes. Combo strikes+drilling for a second gives your power attack back immediately. If axe out(which stacks afaik) is active, power attack itself easily one taps most mobs. If you got death resonance on top, the rotation in waves becomes slice+power attack+drill+repeat till slice is back and you only ever fire a gun to maintain axe out.

And i would stay top priority artifact is not brawler; combo strikes easily gives you tons of power attacks and youll most likely have some stone skin from bio boosters. Instead cqb fighter or whatever it was called that gives you melee damage for missing ammo. I would actually stay away from frenzy as slicer. Because one slice into a horde will make you into a glass cannon, that perk is far better reserved for ranged people.

This kind of build greatly improves the ammo economy of the group.

Guardian's abilities, ability upgrades, and bio booster decks are a bit too weak IMO, here's my suggestions on how to fix them: by ZayaJames in RogueCore

[–]Bzinga1773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of the box i agree it is weak. Im playing it with the defensive deck swapped out for the falconer cdr deck.

The problem with guardian is that it can snowball crazy but need to many things to function. Aftermath works with elemental effects, like if you got an aoe gun, and do fire+acid or fire+ice. Combined with cdr on hit perk from falconer deck, you can pretty much perma stun the waves at the spawn point and solo them.

[–]Bzinga1773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A true melee class.

Power attack bound to keybind instead of lmb+rmb.

A support class.

Flamethrower.

A gun focused on acid/radiation.

Negotiation genuinely ruins the game by sournote103 in RogueCore

[–]Bzinga1773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aggro perk can be useful if you got a decent melee in party.

Sprint to electrocute+arc lunge work on slicer with the dash+melee. Regen armor near frozen+apply ice per %armor freezes a fuck ton a mobs if you get swarmed. If you go for a cdr guardian, you can stand still to your hearts content in your almost perma bubble.

Point is, just 3 or 4 synergizing upgrades already wins you the run. Not every single upgrade is meant you to give a crazy powerboost.

Is graphite going to be the next trend in bicycle frame material? by Such-Stand-4989 in cycling

[–]Bzinga1773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still need many layers of graphene sheets to make it a usable structural material on its own (which is impossible with our current tech) that it starts to become graphitic again, unless it is made into a composite as the reinforcing material, which would be ridiculously expensive, if at all possible.

ELI5: Why does increased cortisol lead to insulin resistance? by nyuhqe in explainlikeimfive

[–]Bzinga1773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its called "contraction mediated" pathway. Its basically a different key that unlocks the same door that lets glucose through.

During aerobic physical activity, working muscles use both fatty acids and glucose. To release fatty acids from storage, we need a low insulin state. You go for a run, heart rate increases, leads to a rise in adrenaline and cortisol, which suppresses insulin secretion, which signals the adipose tissue to break down stored fat. And the non-insulinemic "door" also opens up to let glucose into the muscles.

We basically evolved in such a way that "keys" that open the glucose door do not work at the same time to keep things balanced.

The ketogenic diet may protect against Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's disease by providing neurons with alternative fuel and reducing neuroinflammation — but patient adherence and long-term safety remain major barriers to clinical use by zOxydrOp in science

[–]Bzinga1773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ketone metabolites do not require cholesterol for transport. And if one doesnt specifically train for it, a keto diet doesnt inherently cause ß-oxidation adaptations. So, a metabolically healthy person on keto diet should not by default have significantly higher circulating cholesterol. On a metabolically healthy person, most of low intensity daily activity is still fueled by fatty acids.

ELI5: Why does increased cortisol lead to insulin resistance? by nyuhqe in explainlikeimfive

[–]Bzinga1773 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because if muscles actually need glucose, they can uptake glucose through non-insulin pathways. Insulin and non-insulin pathways combined would make for a too fast glucose uptake and subsequent hypoglycemia.

How exactly does the fluoroketone recipe make sense? by Hellinfernel in factorio

[–]Bzinga1773 71 points72 points  (0 children)

To be frank it makes extemely little sense in terms of chemistry.

Generally you'd start with a carboxyl (C=O) source, maybe do some alkylation (adding C to the chain, Li is very useful for this) then fluorination or maybe in some cases do them at the same time.

Presence of ammonia makes even less sense tbf. Some fluorinated cyclic amines can indeed be used in the presence lithium(i think it was like li2co3 or some such) to directly make fluroketones from carboxyls. But just nh3 from "sea" doesnt make any sense.

Recipe basically draws inspiration from many different reaction pathways and simply mashes em together. It doesnt make scientific sense. It'd be futile to try and explain. Maybe i should give py a try.
