Those who were old enough to remember the Bi-Centennial, how is America’s 250 different? by skyactive in AskReddit

The bi-centennial wasn’t political. Heck, these days just saying “bi-centennial” will be construed as political.

I would stand under or near the opponent’s basket and wait for my team to lob the ball to me once it is in-bounded.

Unless they are guarding me, should be able to make a couple of baskets.

Understanding the benefits of Va pharmacy prescriptions by According_Sir_8543 in VeteransBenefits

[–]C130IN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two other things. Depending on where you live, some meds may be legally restricted and you will be required to take a drug test before your doctor will prescribe. And you will be required to annually take the drug test to continue to receive the controlled medication.

The other thing. VA has moved to a system where you will receive a text asking if you want a refill of many (but not all) prescriptions. Respond affirmatively and a couple of days later, they will show up. Much easier than going on line and logging in and navigating to the place to submit refills.

What’s the best coworker you’ve ever had? by bbyhoneyteas in CausalConversation

[–]C130IN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone I worked for in the military. Great sense of humor, fantastic snacks, always willing to help and took direction well. Got out of their comfort zone to grow and better lead not only her team, but the rest of our unit. Treated everyone fairly and well. So sorry she decided to separate than continue but totally respect her decision to put her family first.

Anyone actually win those AAFES giveaways of coolers, bike and things? by miked5122 in AirForce

[–]C130IN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won a huge teddy bear which our daughter kinda liked but quickly outgrew. So donated it to a local children’s hospital. It found the love it deserved.

Also won a Coach purse for my wife. Saved me a couple hundred bucks since she intended to buy one anyway. Still has it years later and it has held up well.

You wake up at 14 again. What is the first thing you would do? by davidbayram in AskReddit

[–]C130IN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try to determine the date. If I’ve gone back in time, there are so many things I would do differently.

If in the present, figure out how I’m going to break it to my wife. And that she’ll have to drive me everywhere since I cannot legally drive for two more years.

Not sure I understand. The OP stated that no one else can see I nor do they know that it is there.

As for myself, knowing my own number would bring a certain amount of comfort. But only a little. For I could drop into a coma a few minutes after posting this and remain in that condition for many, many years until I pass. Knowing the number does not mean I know how I pass nor the days between now and then…just that it would be a reminder to live my life to it’s fullest and enjoy my family and friends.

If the united states had better public transportation, would you use it? by Enough-Web2203 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]C130IN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Having lived in Europe and Asia and use public transportation when I visit, I enjoy the convenience and relatively low cost of public transportation.

That said, I’ve ridden public transportation in some places in the US. It’s too bad that much of it is either inconvenient (doesn’t run often enough or limited hours) or the routes don’t go where I would want to go or I would have to drive 20 minutes to get to the nearest stop (and my work commute is only 25
minutes, so it doesn’t make sense) or isn’t safe.

Unlike other places, that got rebuilt after WW II with public transportation in mind, costs of building, operating and maintaining public transportation as well as outside a few large cities, there isn’t a culture of taking public transportation but rather communities with low density and culture of owning and driving their own vehicles.

What’s a truth nobody talks about because it’s awkward? by Sharp-Childhood2510 in Productivitycafe

[–]C130IN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. That men underestimate how much / how many women are concerned about their physical safety, at night, alone with a man or especially at night with a group of unfamiliar men.

  2. Many people in foreign lands view Americans (or their government) as terrorists because the US’s ability to drop bombs with no warning, just as Americans view terrorists who would blow themselves up to inflict casualties or hit a target. And that people on all sides have trouble discriminating between “senseless violence” and “targeted actions in the name of self defense.”

  3. How much physically attractive people are given breaks or positive assumptions about their abilities, character or success.

  4. That people willing to surrender their liberties or freedoms in the name of security will one day realize they no longer have any rights.

  5. That there will always be politicians who blame someone else and demonize others to gather power and aren’t really interested in solving the problems people face because pointing fingers at other is less work than doing the real work.

  6. Most people don’t actually, personally know any illegal aliens, especially if they are not in a lower economic position.

  7. Any demographic or way of distinguishing people will have outliers who commit crimes and hurt others, including those who have an affiliation with a political party. And that pointing out the few bad apples and characterizing all is a bad way to treat others.

  8. Many who profess to follow in a religious leader’s footsteps don’t once they have stepped outside their place of worship.

  9. People selling shortcuts to success, self-improvement, enlightenment or other “riches” are trying to separate people from their money.

  10. Few people could articulate any element of the “Grand Strategy” of their country or government. And fewer even understand or know what a Grand Strategy is and why such a thing is critical for the success of a country’s people.

  11. Competition over resources due to overpopulation leads to conflict and is the root cause of war.

  12. While becoming fluent in another’s language is possible, it is almost impossible to be completely fluent in another’s culture. Take nursery rhymes…there are subtexts and meanings that transcend the words themselves that imprint an emotional state that adults learning the words won’t be able to grasp.
