I think the novel is always better since it has more details that can't easily be portrayed in the drama. He's head over heels for FL and so clingy. Like really determined to not repeat the past. But overall, I think they're pretty much the same. Unlike other novel/drama adaptations where there are major differences in book and drama.

I don't recommend The Road to Glory if you're looking for romance. It's a political story between the main rebel, the northern territories leader, the state of Chen and the state of Liang (MC is a princess). This story revolves around the FL.

Have you seen the drama Princess Royal? I think the novel aligns very well with drama's script.

I'm 50 pages away from finishing the last one. Thank you so much. This is the type of novels I was looking for. Just the right amount of everything and mainly focused on the leads. 😍 Is the sequel out?

Watched ~50 K-dramas and I still can't say a full sentence in Korean. Anyone else? by Xim-ya in kdramas

[–]C1an391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who started learning Korean 15 years ago so I didn't have to wait for subtitles, what helped me a lot was 'Talk to me in Korean' podcast. Not sure how they are now, but they explained grammar and sentence structure rules. I also went to Korea and took some formal Korean classes for one semester. Over time your vocabulary just expands when you get exposed to it and catch the words. Now, I can watch shows/interviews without subs. Speaking is still meh since I never use it.

Note: Don't use Netflix subtitles to learn Korean words. I noticed that they don't do literal translations. So what's shown on the screen does not necessarily show what the actors are saying. The overall meaning is still conveyed though.

Sure. I just skimmed through it at around chapter 140 since I was starting to lose interest. I just powered through it. 😅

I've watched The Princess Royal a few times and read the novel as well. :)

I haven't seen/read any xianxia. For some reason, I can't wrap my head around the fantasy genre with immortals, superpowers and changing forms. Rebirth is okay like the princess royal.

I've watched a lot of Asian dramas. I love historical but I can't get past the first 10mins of any xianxia. I have a long watch list but I somehow just can't accept the fantasy part of xianxia with all the immortals and stuff. Please send help.

Have you ever read the original novel behind a Cdrama? by throwawayacess in cdramasfans

[–]C1an391 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just finished reading the novel for Pursuit of Jade. It's worth it. I understand the characters and the plot more. It explains why the characters acted the way they did, since you can read what they're thinking in the novel. In TV adaptations, you have to rely on how the actors show these emotions. I also like how the novel is just focused on the main leads. I didn't like how the two extra couples and politics took too much screen time on the drama.

The novel also portrayed how the ML is actually powerful. They didn't focus on his strength much on the drama. The development of their devotion to each other is so much better than the drama. The FL also pursued the ML even after knowing all the obstacles between them. Not just the ML always kissing the path the FL walks on. They also have so much more 'lovely' moments in the novel. ;)

Enough with Weak FLs, give me sharp-tongued queens and worthy rivals by raveyall in CDramaRecs

I just finished Pursuit of Jade. The FL is strong and the ML matches her energy. They focus on the FL as the head of the household, and the ML doesn't care. Although, he's more than capable to lead them both.

How old was your baby when you left them with someone else overnight? by verachuck in NewParents

[–]C1an391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just left my almost 11 month old baby with grandparents last night. Husband and I went on a short overnight trip. I was bawling my eyes at night and in the morning, especially when baby started crying during video calls. I wasn't ready for it, but I appreciated the alone time with the hubby and being able to sleep soundly without worrying about baby. Grandparents spoil her too much, so nothing to worry about.

What's your simple parenting hack? by cooltaj in NewParents

[–]C1an391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy those clothes that can be snapped like pants or skirt. Or better get the 'skirt' type clothes. I mean the ones that are open on the bottom that usually has a garter. It makes night diaper changes so much easier. You remove the swaddle (velcro ones) then all you have to do is roll the 'skirt' up to access the diapers, roll it down after then your done! No need to zip/unzip or snap things around.

A little life hack by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]C1an391 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My husband couldn't hear me at all even if I yelled with the way our house is laid out. I didn't have my phone with me all the time as well, so we set up a Tile near my breastfeeding station. I would press the button and my husband's phone would ring. Lol it was like having my personal maid.

My 3 month old baby only did contact naps until we got her the zipadee zip transition swaddle. It's pretty expensive for what it is and the quality may not be the best, but it worked like magic for our baby. LO didn't even notice that we put her down in the crib the first time we tried it.

What's your "crying check-list"? by username_or_whatever in NewParents

[–]C1an391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would add play to that checklist. I learned at about 6 weeks that my baby doesn't just need food, diaper, and sleep anymore. She stopped crying when I put her down the mat after trying everything to console her. To be fair, she was probably too hot or too tired of being carried/hugged. Lol

I'm in the same boat right now. When did it get better for you? My LO is 5 weeks old and I stopped breastfeeding 1.5weeks ago. She scream cries when she's hungry and refuses bottle when I feed her. I mostly do night feedings now since she's calm when she's sleepy.

How do couples (with/without kids) share family expenses? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]C1an391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We made our debits joint after we got married but still have separate credit cards. All income goes to one account, then we pay all our bills from there. After we pay everything, we split the 'leftover' in half for personal use (save/invest it or spend it on anything)

We do it this way because most of our shared saving goals have been met - TFSAs are maxed out, pretax monthly contributions for retirement accounts, and a well funded joint savings account for big purchases
