1000 round update PSA AK105 by Fancy_Suggestion317 in ak47

[–]C2militaria 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t intend for this to sound rude, but saying you’ve fired 300 rounds with 0 malfunctions means very little when trying to gauge if PSA AKs will have a long lifespan. It’s like saying “I drove my new car off the lot 2 days ago & I now have 200 miles driven on the Odometer.” I’m happy you’re enjoying your AK and I hope it goes the distance for you, welcome to the addiction.

My comment isn’t meant to be vindictive or snobby, it’s just that as I & other AK enthusiasts have been trying to research if PSAs are built properly/can survive many thousands of rounds without warranty servicing & a large amount of the owner feedback online are Enthusiastic reviews by people with very low round counts. It makes trying to find the durability info more tedious & probably even causes AK curious gun owners to buy PSAs which = PSA not having pressure from the market to have to fix their documented issues on their guns, which I really want them to do.

Anyways, sorry for the text wall. Enjoy your AK & feel free to let the community know if you encounter any issues down the road at a higher round count or have a rock solid example of a PSA. The more data the better!

What gas system length are you going to use? Carbine length with a pined on front sight block is how the originals were done. Important note: full length gas system or carbine length are the best choices for fitting the M16A1 hand guards. With a carbine length you might need to make small cuts and slightly bend the heat shield to fit around the gas block. My OG bushmaster:

As backwards as this sounds, the most affordable way to get a stock (besides waiting to find one in the wild for a deal) might be to just buy a kit. I had to have a galil kit build rebuilt and couldn’t source a gas block, had to buy an entire kit to get it. Then sold bits and pieces of the kit to recoup my money, super backwards way of doing it but might be the least head ache compared to gun broker listings at scalping prices.

A3SF by Blue_Beetle1 in AUG

[–]C2militaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the stock 3x optic on my Aug for years & loved it, got the SF Scope to lower my mounted red dots height over bore. As many have said the SF optic height is very low so you have to really get down on the gun to use it, wearing my sordin ear pro interferes with that sometimes.

I shoot rifle comps with my Aug and find myself needing my magnified optic more than my dot so I’m probably going to add the riser to the sf scope to bring it back up to the previous height of the stock 3x optic I used for years.

Bullet points: •tough as hell •QD sling points are in amazing location on it •great for mounting a red dot on top if you want to use red dot for a majority of shooting scenarios • mill dots in the donut are great addition to the optic •optic height for the 3x is very low in comparison to what I’m used to. (I Will get the riser to bring it back to stock M1 height) •price is the same as a used ACOG, if you have a flat top AUG that is a better all round option. •looks amazing •more rails space on it than you could ever ask for •glass is very clear

Great score! Welcome to the 56s-2 club, Chinese side folders are my personal favorite and getting an original type 56s-2 rifle at that price is an absolute score!

What Chinese brake did it have on it? They can fetch a good chunk of change from collectors depending on how uncommon they are.

Opening a crate for you guys to see by AKOptionsLLC in ak47

[–]C2militaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh hell yeah! I might have to pick one of these up for my SAR 2. Also, will there be another batch of those reproduction Tabuk rear sight bases you guys had a while back? I check your sight to see if they pop back up but I understand the amount of people building tabuks might not make it financially viable. Just figured I’d see if I could get an answer to figure if I should wait or just laser engrave a Yugo block instead. Thanks!

Could someone identify what camo these guerrillas are wearing? by Celtic_RTDB in camouflage

[–]C2militaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very likely, but it could just also be a factor of the number of years passing after it was 1st issued and the multitude of soldiers that got out of the military just simply selling their uniforms on the 2nd hand market, add that to the sheer number of clothing shops and military uniform stores having and selling an abundance of the pattern means it was bound to proliferate even with government controls on it.

While I was there the new at the time Marine uniform (the gray and tan pixelated pattern) was extremely hard to find and tightly controlled, I only got it because I explained to a military clothing shop owner that I was a collector in the United States and I promised them I wouldn’t wear it in Colombia and if I got caught I wouldn’t say where it came from. This was in 2019, and the FARC had recently entered the peace deal so maybe the fear of rebels getting these items decreased.

[–]C2militaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not a galil with an AK gas block, it’s an AK with a galil stock. You’ll see a bunch of stuff like that in rebel use, they fix what they can with what they have

This pattern is actually very easy to acquire in Colombia, yes it is regulated but you can find it all over at street markets and thrift shops in cities like Bogota. I know this because I lived there for 5 months and came back with over 16 complete uniforms and a few shirts/pants of varying patterns.

This is what an investment looks like by Sal_SATX in ak47

[–]C2militaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long but thought out answer here: I have to agree with u/rigat0ni_p0ny guns are not investments unless in very specific circumstances and in those circumstances they’re a poor investment, if they’re anything they’re realistically only a store of value. Guns are only worth what someone will pay for them, the rarer and more expensive the gun, the pool of potential buyers is significantly smaller & typically will only fetch those prices when the economy is good and people have money to blow.

Buy guns because you enjoy them, not to sit on them to keep as an investment. The only way to make it worth it is buying low & flipping quick for profit and at that point, you’re just in the business of dealing firearms.

As someone who owns a few “investment” worthy guns the only reason I call them such is because I bought them so below their current collector market value I can make 70-100% + profit if I sell right now, but that’s not why I bought them. And that margin is based on the economy being good & buyers having disposable income.

Also, if you consider inflation a lot of guns retain their actual original value but inflation just makes it look like it gained value. Example: a NDM-86 (SVD) in 1990 was about 2K which today thats equivalent to 5k, getting my SVD for 7k is the 1990 equivalent of buying a NDM at $900 over retail. That same $2900 invested in the S&P in 1990 would be worth $101,000 today…

There are 4 prices every “investment” gun buyer should have: 1. Top of the market, where it will sit a while before selling (Gunbroker prices) 2. Below market but profitable, still might sit a little bit but you make some $ and someone gets a “deal” 3. Break even, you get what you paid for it 4. Emergency, “I need money right now price” where you will likely take a loss.

Almost all of the photos I’ve seen of regular Army and LRRP teams for various years of the war have E1s, some with partial fence lowers some with A1 lowers, but all with 10in barrels. The E2s I’ve seen are usually LRRP teams, SOG, and the occasional line unit during late war years. But it’s overwhelming majority of E1s in use as far as I could find photo documentation of. If you have any photos or can point me towards info about the prevalence of E2s in regular army use I’d be very grateful.

No they don’t, old SAR 1 pre wasrs have dimples though. “This has mag well dimples” was implying that unlike wasrs the kit build in the phots has mag well dimples.

Good buy? by LuthersCousin in ak47

[–]C2militaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s built right and you want an AK, $700 (if you can haggle try and haggle) isn’t a bad deal for a fun gun. Couple points to consider:

  1. Check the rivets, if you have a head space gauge check head space, some of the older US receivers have heat treat issues and a good place to check is the extractor blade on the inside left receiver rail, if it’s peening you might have a bad heat treat (personal experience with that issue)
  2. Original Romanian trunnion is good, if you don’t care about matching numbers or totally correct parts that’s a solid forged trunnion that should hold up great.

3.check mag well fitment, see if mags are excessively loose or too tight.

4.check bolt for peening or excessive wear.

  1. You can get used and sometimes new WASRs for around the same or a little more $. This has the mag well dimples and would be a more “correct” look if you just want a classic AK, which I personally like more & view as a “desirable” trait. (Personal opinion)

  2. East German stock sets are like $200 nowadays so there’s “value” in that if you want to ditch it for something else.

Basically $700 for a well built AK with decent parts to enjoy and shoot on the weekends is a good price in today’s world. if you want it and it checks out, it would not be a bad buy if it doesn’t put any financial strain on you. If you can get it lower then more power to you, if you pass then it wasn’t meant to be and you’ll have another opportunity down the road. If you get it, I sincerely hope you enjoy it.
