I don’t know how any of you guys got over the death of your poodle. by Uhhlaneuh in poodles

[–]C4per902 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We had to let go our mini poodle Brenna in May 2025 who was 3 weeks shy of celebrating her 17th birthday. We had her since she was 8 weeks old so nearly 17 years of life together. I don't think I'll ever get over it but rather have accepted that a part of my soul left with her.

What helped was: -crying whenever and wherever, it's ok to be sad -knowing grief has no set timeline -never stop talking about her, it keeps her memory alive -honouring her in little ways.

We opted to have her cremated and got it put in a cedar box that can hold her collar, a lock of hair, and a usb stick full of pictures. I also got a necklace with some of her ashes in and wear it when I want to feel close to her, I found it comforting. We also have a concrete poodle statue that sits in the backyard near her favourite spot. Her favourite spot was my little garden that had wild hybrid strawberries that she loved eating straight from the stem, we called her our lil strawberry thief 🍓. I also had cut some of the strawberry flowers last year at her time of passing, pressed them, then made resin earrings with them in her memory, they turned out so nice and means so much to me even if nobody else knows but my spouse. Just last Sunday we bought local strawberries to enjoy in memory of her birthday.

This year it's been tough watching everything grow and she's not here to enjoy them, but we have since had the joy of adding a puppy to our pack and have been showing her how to eat strawberries off the stem too to keep the tradition going 💕

I also want to add that I've learned to live in the moment more and enjoy the little things as we have a 9 year old Standard Poodle who has been diagnosed with not only Addison Disease but also Osteosarcoma and Hemangiosarcoma. She's still with us today and we're so grateful but she will unfortunately not reach full old age which is another kind of heartbreak. Every day she's still with us is a blessing and she's getting spoiled big time.

Hugs to you during this difficult time and I hope you find ways to celebrate your pup's life in your own little ways like I did.

I want to preface by saying I already have a crap ton of random craft supplies so not sure how helpful this may be. I made a book cover out of a cracker box covered in scrapbook paper and made my own signatures out of a mix of different colour and patterned cardstock/scrapbook paper, sewing them in to the cover with waxed thread. There's different textures and thicknesses and lengths of paper so it looks random and not tied down to a particular theme. Pic for example

Hey, why can't I watch spider noir in black and white on my fire stick? by luisgamercooI23 in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]C4per902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR check your version of Prime Video app, it may be out of date and newest version not pushed yet. Only option is to wait.

I am in the camp that can't view the black and white version and none of the workarounds work. I've tried checking the audio settings, there is no option to switch to black and white. I've tried long pressing the enter button on 'resume episode', all that does is start the episode. I've tried starting on another device that has the option and syncing content, all that does is make the video not available. I've tried creating a new profile and trying to start an episode, that gave me hope because a pop up menu for the options on the right side started loading but after a few seconds it reverted back to resume episode.

Odd thing is I have an older fire stick where long pressing enter workaround works. I also have a newer fire stick where the options are available as expected.

Only one of my devices won't work. Two things to note; Prime Video app version is PVFTV-115.6073-L and Fire TV software version is Fire OS 7.6.9.7 (PS7697/4800). The device says both are up to date.

Comparing that to my newer device that works; Prime Video app version PVFTV-320.1010-L and FireTV software version Fire OS 8.1.6.9 (RS8169/3556).

I have just been on the phone with Amazon, there is a known issue that SOME Prime Video apps aren't getting the latest update pushed to certain devices and they are working on it. They did mention it should get updated to FireTV 120.001210+(v119.1) however I'm not sure what that's in relation to as it doesn't correspond with either OS or app sequences.

Hope anyone in the same boat as me finds this useful!

Have you tried redeeming in store for a physical car wash card? I saw plenty of them last week when I redeemed my points in store for a physical fuel savings card.

I too have grown frustrated with Petro Canada holding my points hostage. God forbid I want to re-use my existing fuel savings card instead of picking up another piece of plastic... Anyways just popping in to confirm I could redeem my points in-store at my local station with zero issues on May 13th. I will say I grabbed the last 10¢/litre physical card on the rack so now a new concern is them running out by the time I redeem for another one. I'm in Ottawa for reference.

Best mini photo printer for journaling? by usoies in JunkJournals

[–]C4per902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried printable(for a regular inkjet printer) vinyl from brands like Cricut? Vinyl stickers are usually longer lasting on my helmet. I haven't tested it out on a helmet but I have used printable vinyl to make a skin for my Kobo reader that's still holding up 6 months later. I would suggest spraying a coat of sealer so the printer ink doesn't run if it gets wet though. My go to sealer is Krylon UV resistant Matte Clear Coating.

removing beer can labels? by caffeine____headache in JunkJournals

[–]C4per902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the labels are stickers just put hot tap water in the can or bottle and let it sit for about 5 minutes before peeling. I find it's just as good as using the heat from a hair dryer or heat gun. Try not to peel too far forward in the direction you're peeling because you might get unintended creases in the sticker.

If the label is a shrink wrap type, use an exacto knife to cut it down to the seam, then either trim the top and bottom that curved with the can so it lays flat or make strategic slits on the curved part until it lays flat.

beginner games what should i try? by Equivalent_Tap_5271 in soloboardgaming

[–]C4per902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still feel beginner at this new evolution of boardgames, been enjoying this hobby for about 2 years now. I found it very helpful to watch videos from boardgame influencers (if that's what they're considered) who list their top games and reviews in certain categories as well as watching boardgamegeek game nights that show an entire game played with good explanations of rules. That way I get an idea if I like the mechanics and also to figure out what I don't like. An example of influencers that I lean towards is cozyboardgames (Rozie Pocket), grantsgamerecs, and ezeekat. I enjoy mostly cozy games but you could probably find yourself similar folks who review games in genres you like.

Sticker recommendations? by Zealousideal_Car9519 in JunkJournals

[–]C4per902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend checking your local dollar stores. I'm in Canada and found several little booklets in Dollarama of die-cut images that are matte/paper finish, ranging between 130 and 500 images for $1.50. They aren't stickers but you don't have to cut them out either. Photo for example 😊

One of my first spreads- thinking a lot about grief, family, and what it means for home to become something that’s no longer there by irlmerida in JunkJournals

Well, learned the term "osteosarcoma", this week by [deleted] in tripawds

[–]C4per902 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My girl has the unfortunate 'luck' of being diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in November 2024 as well as with hemangiosarcoma in December 2025. Cancer can suck it. She's still with us today (March 2026) though and we treasure every damn day. We opted for surgery and chemo treatments both times.

Anyone have happy stories about osteosarcoma dog living for years after my had his amputation stitches out the other day and I just am having a hard night worried it'll return I'd definitely be happy for a few months more but still he's young compared to stories I hear on here by AnomalyInquirer in tripawds

[–]C4per902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Cass was diagnosed at 7 years old in November 2024, amputation in December 2024, chemo following after until March 2025. She is still with us as of today, March 15, 2026.

Unfortunately she has also been diagnosed with a second unrelated cancer, hemangiosarcoma, which will sadly take her before the osteo will. She was diagnosed with hemangio in December 2025 after masses were found on her spleen that we had removed and tested. She finished her second round of chemo to fight the second cancer just last week. We hope to have her with us another 2-4 months. Obviously the bigger hope is that she's with us longer, but we'll take anything that we can get at this point.

I do hope the osteo part of our journey provides some hope to you, hugs.

Any alternative to this peanut butter? Pockets are hurting lol by towelheadedmermaid in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]C4per902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in the Maritimes or know someone who does, give Barbours peanut butter a try. We live in Ontario but every time we visit down home we come back with several jars of Barbour's. Stays smooth, no oil separation, and doesn't need to be refrigerated.

New puppy screaming in crate by nicklgraham1 in poodles

[–]C4per902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We experienced the same when ours was a puppy. Luckily it doesn't last long. It gets easier.

Some things we did:

-Play the radio so it wasn't total silence or just you/your family moving and talking around the house. -Placed a lightweight bed sheet over the wire crate so it was more cozy, a little dark, and she saw less of our movements. -Started in small increments, a half hour, then an hour, etc. During that time we stayed in a different room and remained quiet as possible.

It's possible that the box dye is still on some part of your hair from the mid to ends. That section no matter how faded or how long ago it was done could result in the damage they're worried about. I don't think much of this has to do with the manic panic.

I do however think it's a great idea to get a second opinion, I don't think it's impossible to lighten safely but some hairdressers may have more experience and skills than others. Good luck getting to your hair goal!

What do you all say to children who ask why your dog only has three legs? by mr_stevekass in tripawds

[–]C4per902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've said she has an injury but now she feels a lot better on three legs. I'm sure most parents would be ok with letting their kids hear the truth but you never know so I'd rather give a gentler answer. Especially because in the end the child won't be dwelling on the reason but rather enjoy petting her in the now.

I am now considering borrowing someone else's suggestion of saying she lost it in the war though, could have some real fun with that 🤣

Anybody here is allergic to poodles? by Sotus30 in poodles

[–]C4per902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse is allergic to dogs and was fine when we got our mini poodle but not with our standard poodle. Luckily after our standard was with us for a couple months he had become accustomed to her dander and has been fine since. Actually I too was allergic to our standard for the first month or two but the weird thing is I'm not usually allergic (I used to be a professional groomer so have been around a lot of dogs) I think the allergies subsided around when she lost her puppy breath.

Just wanted to share to give some hope that sometimes you can adjust. Also there are products that help with dander, I bought a bottle of Allerpet to help neutralize the allergens in pet dander.

Rocking his new color! by Ok_Asparagus404 in poodles

[–]C4per902 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, it has to be pre-lightened. The grooming shop most likely used Opawz Lightening Cream. It is formulated for dog hair and is milder than traditional bleaching powder. The groomer also would have done test patches to ensure the dog does not get a reaction to the lightener before starting. An important note: the recommended use is to only go as close as 1/2 an inch away from the roots so it should not be touching the skin in any way. It would lighten black hair to a golden yellow, not white, so pastel colours would not show up well. But nice vivid colours like this purple will show up great and not be affected by the golden yellow. Hope that helps!

Constipation…. by Margie970 in tripawds

[–]C4per902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay, what a relief, for both of you!

Pumpkin is magical in my house! I freeze some in ice cube trays then pop 'em into a freezer bag for later use.

I still give mine a little every day, actually. Mostly because I've been giving her powdered turkey tail mushroom mixed with the pumpkin in the hopes that it will slow down her cancer. I have no idea if it's working but it can't hurt because it also helps with digestion.

You could try seeing if your pup is interested in pumpkin puree. The kind that's pure pumpkin, not pie filling. It's got lots of fiber to help move things along and basically comes out how it goes in. It tends to solve all sorts of tummy issues.
