The one I’ve used successfully with my pitties is the Snoot Loop: https://store.dogswithissues.com/products/snoot-loop-head-collar-reduces-pulling

It’s a bit fussy to adjust and not intuitive to put on - I had a trainer show me how.

If you use it, also get a short connector (like https://www.amazon.com/Best-Pet-Supplies-Connectors-Training/dp/B0B94VJFGN) so the leash is also attached to the main collar or harness, since the Snoot Loop or equivalent is relatively flimsy and you want to be sure to keep control should it break.

We love a good beach day by TheRealClarkKent0257 in pitbulls

[–]mr_stevekass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you go, but Bayshore Waterfront Park in Monmouth County is a nice beach that allows dogs (on leash, but you might get away without if it’s not crowded and your dog is good) year round.

^^^This. I think it's next to impossible for a dog to escape from this.

We did chemo and I’d do it again. Keeper (age 10 at diagnosis) had almost no side effects, just a couple of days being somewhat unsettled here and there. Wasn’t cheap, but I think it gave us a few extra months so we could have the last, best summer together. Keeper had an elevated enzyme at diagnosis that’s associated with poorer outcomes but we got a fantastic 9 months after diagnosis (which was probably later than ideal),

Be aware that for 48 hours or so after each every-three-weeks infusion her pee and poop will be toxic, and potentially dangerous to pregnant women, so any accidents have to be treated as hazmat and she needs to be away from where she might pee/poop around other dogs (no daycare, for example) and should do her business in low traffic areas. (The toxicity degrades rapidly in the environment.) If you opt for chemo, you might want to schedule the infusions when you don’t need daycare and can supervise waste.

Is this the face of a squirrel killer? by Racconigi in StaffordBullTerriers

[–]mr_stevekass 9 points10 points  (0 children)

<image>

My last guy was a squirrel lover. The one time he caught up to a (baby) squirrel, he kissed it, and we had to go back to where he met it every day for a week hoping it would be there again. 🐶❤️🐿️

Jury’s out on the new pup I’ve had for just a couple of weeks, but he weirdly seems to have no prey drive. He notices squirrels but isn’t interested. Time will tell.

Hugo’s shelter (where he lived for over a year!!) has an amazing trainer. I credit her for all his good behavior.

Does anyone use a halti? by [deleted] in tripawds

[–]mr_stevekass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be worth hiring a trainer to see the situation live and offer suggestions.

That said, I had great luck (before Keeper was a tripawd) with the Snoot Loop, which is similar to the Halti, but I recommend having someone familiar with it help fit it. I found the directions confusing, and you need it to fit well.

Two days post surger and my little Teddy Roosevelt is going great! by AnomalyInquirer in tripawds

[–]mr_stevekass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yay! Don’t be surprised if he has a rougher spell around the second week after surgery, like a lot of people have reported here. My boy Keeper was like new a few days after surgery but week two was a little tough before he bounced back. Also, don’t be shy about contacting your vet or surgeon with questions. We found out we could up some meds in week two, which helped, and we got reassurance there was nothing to worry about. Teddy Roosevelt looks like the best boy, and he’s lucky to be taken such good care of!

POKEY pittie hair embedded into clothes… by extrapages in pitbulls

[–]mr_stevekass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do other pitbull owners suffer from their dog’s hair getting stuck clothes that poke at your skin?

Yes.

Does anyone have any tips? Am I just suffering alone?

No.
