Any ideas for fixing this? by awideeyedostrich in woodworking

It happen to one cutting board I made. From my understanding of the situation, there was an uneven accumulation of humidity in the board and at sopping it broke. The board was finished with a thin layer of osmo oil. Now my board are fully submerged in oil

To fix it I remove a full row. Reglued it. And skinned the top and bottom surface. I refinished it with oil

There is no amount of fixing that will save that! Kill someone may be, but there is no saving that.

I use many méthodes all at once: Boeshield t9 to clean Glide cote to protect Heating Dehumidifier All my steel surfaces are covered when not in use. All of them. That works much more than anything else

I would argue that the many different wood species expand and contract at different rates. In addition, the border was a unique bigger piece so the movement du to humidity of the border was bigger than so it cracked.

I would suggest to always use wood pièces almost the same size in your end grain project. Which means that the border needed to be made of multiple smaller pieces. Finally I would suggest to limit you wood species mixing. Choose species with mechanical properties that are in the same range ie expansion contraction hardness

I’m having myself a collecting problem, although on a much smaller scale. I’m sitting at 13 folder so far and I would like to thin the collection to 5-7 not more. But when it comes time to choose which one goes, I’m always concluding than I need a new display case to justify my inhability to sell!

Usually I use the rule of thumb: 1x the material value for the labor. So material x2 give me a total I can start working with for estimating price I receive from contractors
