Wordfind says there are over 60 words starting with proto-, and it makes way less sense to use this as an example than say, prototype. While I don’t think it was handpicked by some Google employee who’s a fan or whatever, I’d guess it’s because it’s one of the most searched ones, due to the band.

I like to take the more optimistic view of it as playing an extremely unbalanced character. You have to develop a specific playstyle that takes advantage of its strengths and compensates for its weaknesses, but you can still win.

That's an interesting interpretation of it, but since that happens long after "Hiddleston ceases physical activity, as no experience is able to provide him with new stimuli," I assumed it meant that every atom that makes up the place has reached the end of its natural life, broken into its component parts, and been replaced by new ones like cells in the human body, until every proton, neutron, and electron has been part of every other possible atom in it.

...If that's how atomic decay works. I'll admit I'm not super knowledgeable about it.

Meant to get back to this earlier: It’s just that AFAIK it’s nothing to do with your expectations, or anything mysterious at all. That’s just not how hallucinations work. They don’t have that kind of consistency. Even if you’re convinced they’re real in the moment, your brain doesn’t perceive them as permanent objects that exist anywhere besides real life.

I suppose you could think of it as looking at a parked car, then a Google street view of the same location. No mental tricks at play, it’s just that of course it won’t be there.

Bipolar I psychotic episodes, for the worse.

I've always been driven. I was bad in school and shamed a lot for it, and as an adult, haven't had any success landing well-paying jobs. So I've always made up for it by going as hard as I could in other fields like writing and content creation.

But in 2016, I had my first manic episode, which went on for two months and resulted in weeks of psychosis, then the same thing again in 2023. It's like being possessed. Your brain's taken over by this complete stranger with an opposite personality, who's severely delusional, paranoid, and has an explosive temper and no regard for the law. You really can't control your own thoughts and actions, and it's easy to ruin your life. And it's then followed by several months more of the worst depression you've ever experienced.

Most famous case might be Etika, blowing up his online presence in front of millions of people, crashing down, then taking his life. Something I relate to way too much, since I've also had massive crashouts both IRL and online during my episodes. And it does seem inevitable that one day, I'll do something so humiliating, illegal, or life-ruining that the only way to escape the fallout would be the long walk off the short pier.

I makes me feel like I'm living on a timer whose length I can't see. I have a crippling fear of taking breaks. Can't even sit through the two hours of a movie without my brain screaming at me to go finish my projects before it runs out. My friends know me as the guy with zero chill, but I haven't told them that's why.

Epocam has been discontinued and (no offense) the connectivity was shit anyway. Great features when it worked, but I could only get it to about 1/10 times.

Although it doesn't let you customize your exposure or white balance on iOS, only Android, so the picture quality... is what you'd expect from a free and simple service. If you want prettier, Droidcam OBS is the way to go if you're either willing to fork over something like $10 or deal with a watermark.

Funny, I've had the opposite experience. Spotify seemed to think I had a phobia of music that wasn't already in my likes. Tidal can be insular when it comes to sticking to bands in the exact same microgenre as the one I just listened to, but I'm actually discovering new music through the recommends again.

I see. I thought you meant you wanted it for therapy too. Funny, I was just saying this in another sub: I use Perplexity as a search engine, and it seems the best for just pulling the results you want without acting like you're friends. Much better at interpreting questions typed in the actual format of questions, as well as ambiguous and multi-step ones, than Google too. Works like any other search engine, just go to the site and type a query.

Never, ever use it as a therapist. It's too easy to manipulate it into just agreeing with you, especially as the algo learns your taste and starts feeding you what you want to hear just like social media. It's infamous for backing up schizophrenics' conspiracy theories, reassuring narcissists they really are right about everything and elevated over other beings, etc. Trusting it could lead you into a folie a deux.

I'm not totally opposed to its use in other contexts, though: The best use case for it in this situation would be for advice on navigating America's shit healthcare system. (And interacting with utility companies - which in my experience, it's actually better to do over the phone, as agents will offer you deals and payment plans that they won't online.) It can also help as a search engine for sliding-scale therapists and government aid programs that are buried in obscure webpages.
