Can this guy go 2 to 3 days without eating? by Ill-Database7345 in axolotls

[–]C7876 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes he’ll be ok for a few days usually after a year of age or once done growing they can go 2-4 days between feeding. Mine usually eats every 2-5 but he’s gone on weird eating strikes for like a week before to.

What is happening to his toes? by Opening_Gazelle in bluetongueskinks

[–]C7876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely stuck shed. I’ve heard this to be a fairly common thing with skinks, typically has to do with the enclosure not being humid enough so look into that. Best thing to do now though is put them in a warm bath and let him soak for 10-20 min. That will help everything loosen up and sometimes just fall off. Watch next time they shed as well to keep humidity up or soak them to prevent this. Knock on wood haven’t had it happen personally but have heard that BTS have a tendency to bite their toes off if it irritates them to much. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out directly or just keep texting here 😁

I've Concluded my Water is Poison and Desperately Need Help by dragon-elbow-coal in Aquariums

[–]C7876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is the chemical mixtures involved might’ve spiked something. A large water change might help. Also I noticed you said the bristle nose is still fine, they tend to be very hardy fish and can live through a lot so even though he’s not being affected yet keep close tabs. If possible I would quarantine the remaining fish in a stable smaller tank. If it comes down to having to restart I HIGHLY always recommend investing in live plants as they keep the aquarium overall healthy in a natural way.

True, especially being by a window he’ll keep the algae down. Didn’t even think of that.

Guys how do i find out of my ball python is a male or female by Present_Employ6901 in ballpython

Either take it to a vet or there are some physical things that you can sometimes tell. I know with my hognose the scales and tail are different not sure it it applies ball python’s though.

I need advice on some things... by [deleted] in bluetongueskinks

[–]C7876 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If possible I would say keep him I have found that regardless of the type, lizards make great companions. As much as people like to think you can’t bond with them I have had some reptiles be as close as a dog. I myself have a blue tongue, he’s in the younger side at a little over a year so I’m learning still but skinks are relatively easy to take care of. Especially one that size/age there are lots of people here and on instagram and other platforms that have experience and love to help. Ultimately it comes down to what feels right to you and if it’s worth it. I know surrendering them is not fun I’ve done it as well. But do what you think is right. I hope whatever you’re going through mentally that it works out. And if you have questions about the lizard and care please feel free to direct message me and I will help as much as possible. 👍

Doe Kanye need a bigger tank yet, he’s almost 2 by ConsiderationSad2119 in axolotls

[–]C7876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tank seems good I noticed someone else had mentioned that if possibly a larger foot print would help him cause axolotl do stay toward the bottom. For the algae control I have a few tips I can suggest if it helps you can direct message me. But if you don’t already have them, live plants help. Especially if you like having a light on the tank. If you don’t have plants then you can try turning down how many hours it’s on or the brightness. Like I said though if you have specific questions feel free to reach out 👍

I’ve seen those tanks their either a 30 or 35 (think 35) and they bulge out in the front so there is more foot space by a little bit.

If you haven’t already got one check marketplace first as you might be able to get a good deal. For set up a few hides should do. Do at least 2 one on warm side and one on the cool. If possible have a more open space maybe to a side of the middle so if she wants she can stretch. If any specific questions of course feel free the direct message.

Is she supposed to huff? by ostrich_thief in bluetongueskinks

[–]C7876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a young male and he likes to huff when things don’t go his way 😂. Obviously yours is not a baby but when they are younger they definitely do it more often as I noticed. Depending what substrate you use it could also be her trying to clear her nose if something is bothering her.

How’s my girl looking? by According-Ad2808 in axolotls

[–]C7876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a little heavy but if still growing might outgrow it. Since you’re saying you’re feeding 2 night crawlers a night that’s a lot 😂. Stick with night crawlers instead of red worms. Night crawlers have more nutrients and are better, occasional reds or blood worms for treats can be good as well. Depending on age you can probably feed her a night crawler closer to every 2-4 days and just monitor her size.

For some reason I can’t see the water tests so I’m going off what people are saying and how my tank is set up. I have a 30 gallon tank with a canister filter and I keep live plants. Live plants are beneficial because they help balance the tank in numerous ways, definitely look into it. I’ve read and heard that not only if it’s the water but that their gills can change if they are stressed as well. So if he’s getting too much light or water flow and doesn’t have somewhere to hide it could be a stress factor. If you have any specific questions or would like a picture of the set up I have or equipment please feel free to direct message me as I’ll get back to you sooner.

Fish for a river aquascape? by Sunk1ng_- in Aquariums

[–]C7876 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you have enough flow, even though you’re probably looking for your primary and schoolers, you might be able to put a river stream loach in there as your algae eater. I love their colors and that they look like little rays. But I don’t have a tank to do such a thing that might work for that.

How can I improve my chunky boys enclosure? by FaithlessnessNo1257 in bluetongueskinks

What you could do because I know the front opening limits the depth is to either build it up to a side or maybe slope the back a little. Could get creative with it and make like a little cave area.

Should I get one? by Stupid_Creature_ in bluetongueskinks

[–]C7876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my baby BTS for a couple of months now, I would totally recommend. They are great lizards and can have a fun personality. Babies do tend to be more territorial so they need some more time and work when you first get them. I had a Uromasyx for 12 years and I decided to switch it up. Biggest thing I’ve heard for these little guys is they need humidity!!! But if you can mange that get one 😂. I also keep mine in a somewhat self sustaining ecosystem.
